It was really hyped up and I was excited to try it, however it wasn’t really what I had in mind and I left hungry and disappointed- our server was nice enough but incredibly slow. I don’t think he took our dinner order until 30 minutes in, he disappeared after we ordered appetizers. He informed us a little bit about the oysters, but didn’t inform us on portion size or of recommendations- I ordered the crab legs for my meal, but I wasn’t aware how small the portion of crab legs were- it was more of an appetizer size not entree. I wish the server had been informative as we had never been there before. My boyfriend got the shrimp and grits and it was fine, but all in all not my favorite place.
While the oysters were delicious, the main dish left a lot to be desired. We ordered the catch of the day. It was slightly over cooked but otherwise tasted ok. The rice pilaf was not seasoned at all. Our waitress was amazing and tried hard to fix it. Offered to take it off the check and gave us a round of drinks and dessert on the house. I would go back because of the oysters and service and to give it another try.
Oysters were delicious, our waiter explained the different types which was great. I had the special which was a grilled trout, so good and my family had the crispy fried 1/2 chicken. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Deserts were amazing too!
I had a great experience. Food was delicious. Definitely coming back soon!!!!
Obsessed with our waiter Nick
We had a late reservation, but the Darling Oyster worked us in much earlier. Service was excellent and very attentive. The oysters were delicious and served with house made cocktail sauce and the house hot sauce. The hot sauce was so good that we all bought some to bring home. The atmosphere was darling as advertised. We will definitely be back!
Great Oysters! Great service and fantastic food.
The Darling was hands down delicious. The staff were friendly and checked on us multiple times. If you’re into raw oysters and a raw bar, definitely don’t miss out.
Emily was AWESOME! She not only gave great service, she explained the menu to us perfectly and was always available when we needed! Food was incredible too!
Great restaurant and the food was delicious! I would recommend this restaurant as a must when visiting!
Went for brunch and left completely satisfied!
We loved this oyster bar! They had a really great cocktails, appetizers, and oysters! Overall a great vibe. 10/10
I arrived to catch the tail end of happy hour. The St.James oysters were some of the biggest I’ve ever had and they were the special. So good! My server was polite and attentive without hovering. Maybe it’s a carry over covid precaution but they could have included more tables. I’m glad they didn’t. It was so nice to have space between my table and other diners. I would definitely come back again and again!
Great seafood spot. The food was fresh and delicious. Service was exceptional.
It was our first time here - and it’s was an absolutely perfect first experience. Food was truly incredible, oysters were fresh, and amazing service. We will be back and will be recommending for sure!
I must commend the outstanding service, of my server, Logan! She was great. Great communication, super friendly and paced my meal to perfection. Five Stars to Logan!
The oysters and the shrimp cocktail were on point. The green salad was so good that I ate every last bite. The Blue Crab Tagliatelle was a light and delicious entree. Key Lime Pie to go because I had eaten so much while I was there!
Every time I am in the Charleston area, I eat at The Darling Oyster Bar. It never disappoints. It’s a not to be missed dining destination when you are in the area.
Thank you to all of the staff, don’t forget the Kitchen Crew, for a wonderful night out.
Looking forward to my next visit
We did not have a good experience. Staff was very limited. Our waiter never asked if we wanted additional cocktails, what our side orders were if we would like dessert etc. The entire restaurant seemed to be in a huge rush to clear out all night. They started bleaching down the tables and bars while people were still dining and the smell was awful. While we appreciate being clean, probably waiting until diners leave is best. But at the end of the day, the food was not great. The pasta with crab was tasteless, the crab strips were over fried and the hush puppies were inedible. Really disappointed.
We came to Darling in hopes for a great dinner. Unfortunately it was the exact opposite. First off, our table was tucked way in the back right next to where all the servers come in and out. Every 5 minutes or so, there was another loud crash and sauces flying everywhere from a dropped plate, and it was just really hard to enjoy a dinner when you are constantly watching for loud dropped objects. We ordered drinks, which took close to 20 minutes to come out, I had to remind the server we had ordered drinks and he blamed it on the bar being backed up, but the drinks were sitting there waiting when he finally checked. Then we ordered some oysters and clams from the raw bar. Those came out and were fantastic. Then we ordered the rest of our food. I asked that the salad please come out next, then the clam strips, and then the 2 entrees. I explained that we wanted to have our salad before the hot app came out but about 2 minutes after we ordered, of course the clam strips came out (which were soggy and not hot). Then the salad finally came, so that was pretty frustrating. A different server from who we had (curly hair guy) dropped our food and we asked him if we could get a a couple small sharing plates so we could share our salad and appetizer and his response was “ummmm possibly”. He was in other words making it clear he was not our server. And on top of that, he walked right into the kitchen and right back out and never brought our plates. Our server came around and asked how everything was, and I said the clam strips were cold and soggy and he just said “oh really, I’m sorry about that” and that was it. No offer for a replacement or anything. I’m pretty sure it was an extra order sitting in the window and when the order came through they just sent it out before it died in the window. Lastly, our entrees (the scallops and the chicken) were ok. The chicken was really good but the scallops were very sandy. Got a lot of crunch in each one. Overall it w
Our 2nd time to The Darling in as many months. Its a fun place with very good food. Unfortunately, this night we had to wait about 30 minutes for our mussel appetizer, but our waitress, Logan, kept us very informed to the delay and we appreciated that.
The food and service were outstanding! Tristin was such a great server.
Prompt seating, prompt friendly service, food and drinks excellent. Not a place for quiet conversation.
Amazing food!!!!!!!!!!! Omg!
Our server Delany was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and gave us great service.

Kate did an outstanding job- attentive, knowledgeable of the various options.😊
Great food and great service!! Such a cute spot for some seafood.
The shrimp and grits was very salty and the crab pasta was bland.
It was amazing!
Wonderful, start to finish. Seafood plateau is a “must”.
We had a wonderful meal at The Darling. The food was fantastic and the service very attentive. We will return!
The service was fantastic, everyone was extremely friendly. Our waiter even went out of his way to give us other recommendations in the area. And the food was FANTASTIC. Extremely fresh seafood, cooked to perfection.
Our waiter was very friendly and gave us recommendations since it was our first time dining here. We highly recommend the scallop dish for dinner and the bread pudding for dessert. Great atmosphere and friendly staff!
Excellent fresh seafood - mostly local. Our server was delightful.
Seated initially at a very unappealing table. Asked to move tables and was kindly accommodated. Food and service ok.
The Darling Oyster Bar was the best meal of our trip to Charleston! The recommendations were spot on from the staff. I’m glad we booked our reservation early.
We got engaged there and it was perfect. They brought us complimentary champagne and even gave us a gift. The food was excellent.
Booked a seat at the raw bar and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Logan took great care of us, and I was amazed at the Happy Hour deals. My date and I enjoyed the Basil Daisy and Paloma drinks. We also had a few rounds of oysters, shrimp cocktail, and the ceviche dip — super yummy! Would highly recommend!
Amazing oysters. Lovely atmosphere @ the raw bar. Thanks for being one of our favs while in town!!! Love y’all!!!
Excellent service, delicious meal and great ambiance
Oysters and drinks were great! Entrees were not as good. Had to send the tagliatelle back.
