We LOVE LOVE LOVE The Cottage! We have been here quite a few times and this particular lastest visit was just BEYOND delicious! BEST PART? The change the menu often enough to discover new favorites!
EVERYTHING is truly memorable and we are fans of SO MANY of their dishes... the Jonah Crab Toast, wagyu brisket steam buns, lobster spag with sea urchin, duck fried rice... I could go on and on! Do yourself a favor and go check them out as soon as you can!
The burger here is so perfect in every way, it has ruined me for all others. Please don't ever take it off the menu!
Consistently good. Fresh ingredients prepared in creative ways create tasty, interesting food choices.
Good wine selection by the glass. A very good local option.
Food was a 5 service was a 2. Staff was inattentive, slow and were seldom seen. To get a second glass of wine I went to the bar myself and even then the bartender took 15 minutes to act and the bar was not busy. Another patron (who happened to own another restaurant) observed what was happening and took it upon himself to go off and inform management. But still no action was taken.
Great birthday dinner during the week. Fabulous food, fabulous ambiance and service!
Consistently good. Carrot and beet appetizer outstanding as was the salmon. These dishes are creatively prepared, artfully presented, and taste great. Service as always excellent.
Food was excellent and creative. My only gripe was that the portions on the main seemed a bit small for the price. Good dining experience b/w food and service.
The chestnut soup and lobster spaghetti were delicious. The bao and duck fried rice were both oversalted.
Lovely ambiance and delicious food.
Food was very off tonight. Lobster pasta noodles were stuck in a clump, “med rare” salmon was raw.
This NEVER used to happen here. Hope they go back to the old careful kitchen soon.
Great food and service! My favorite restaurant in CT!!
Consistently good. Creative, delicious food in a very friendly atmosphere. Small space makes it loud at times.
Our waitress was very helpful and offered us delicious suggestions. We have eaten at the cottage once before and lived the food and service. This time we ate at the chefs counter and told the waitress what our likes were- and she picked out everything from our wine ,dishes, and desserts.
This was our first visit - of what will be more! Everything written about the fresh creative cuisine is true. The only area of improvement is actually a small thing. When we arrived (with a reservation) for an early dinner before the theater, there were just two other seated tables. With most tables empty, the hostess placed us right next to another couple. She was not happy when I asked her for a table that initially had no other diners aside it and made excuses for why we should keep the 1st table she selected - the restaurant would be full soon so it didn’t matter, etc. Unprofessional. She definitely needs more training. Our waiter came out and put us at different table when I continued quietly insisting. Btw, while we were there it did not fill up.
Food is overall very good, with a few hits and misses. But the portions are skimpy for the price and the noise level makes it hard to converse.
Consistently good food, service, experience. Carrots & beets with burrata very creative and tasty. Salmon and cod entrees cooked to perfection . Angliotti with squash very good but full portion seemed small. Good wines by glass options.
The setting is simple, apropos to its name, but the food is innovative and exceptional.
Beautiful dining room, appealing food that looks great on the plate. My one critique would be the menu: every dish seems slightly overburdened with rich enhancements.
So accommodating to make our Anniversary very special. The food was outstanding, as always!
Another fine meal with friends accustomed to the best restaurants in Manhattan. A total 5 star experience.
Food and drinks were great! Overpriced, but tasty combinations. Went elsewhere for the second drink.
I'd recommend that nobody go....especially on Saturday...when I want a table. (please note the sarcasm font). Seriously though, its a special restaurant. Chef Brian Lewis never disappoints with his unique takes and the service was perfect (attentive but not overbearing). The décor is more warm and inviting than many of the online pictures.
Excellent Thanksgiving Pre fixe menu. Selected the traditional turrkey dinner...every morsel divine! Heritage turkey was outstanding. Servings larger than I expected as the first plate of burrata with roasted root vegies was a meal in itself. Just a great night of dining. Look forward to returning ASAP!
Thanks to the entire staff for giving up their holiday to make ours delectable!
Great Thanksgiving Day experience...thank you
Went for Thanksgiving dinner and it could not have been a better experience! Atmosphere was perfect and not too loud so that we could enjoy each other’s company. Food was excellent and every course had a unique flair.
Another amazing meal at the Cottage. Everything was perfect. Thank you for being our go to restaurant for special occasions and Holidays.
Everything was excellent
Here's my take on Westchester and Fairfield County spots: most are garbage. There are a few that many people think are good, but are actually crap. The Cottage and now Oko are two real standouts. Here's my take:
The winner's circle:
- Cottage: Excellently conceived and well-executed dishes that change all the time so I am always eager to go back to try out whatever's new.
- Oko: Super inventive, super tasty, just plain fun
- Schoolhouse at Cannondale: Food not as good as Cottage and Oko but it's got great service, good food, and is my go-to for more special occasions with the wife
Good stuff for when I am in the mood for what they offer: Barcelona, Mecha, Locali Pizza, Le Penguin
- L'Escale - cool ambiance, overpriced, very Greenwich scene (bring your Aston Martin)
- Thomas Henklemann - For the once every 4 years when you want super-classical food. Might be useful to know CPR given the average frailty of their clientele though.
- Inn at Pound Ridge: I am pretty sure Jean Georges has never been to his restaurant. The menu hardly ever changes, the execution is totally hit or miss, cool spot but that doesn't make up for how middling it is
- The Whelk: I really don't know why people go there. Good bar, but the food is sometimes just plain weird in a "anybody who knows about food would know this dish just a bad concept" sort of way (peanuts and arctic char being my poster child here). I think they've had some chef turnover which didn't help.
- Jessup Hall: Boring.
- South End: What happens when you put amateurs in charge. It's not hard to season food properly, but they just don't seem to get it.
- Elm: Just went totally south when Brian Lewis left. Don't bother. (Frankly just thinking about New Canaan restaurants makes me cringe)
- Kawa Ni: Just go to Oko if you want some Japan. Different style but Oko is just plain better and has way more choice.
Then there's a long list of outright bad.
As always the food was OUTSTANDING!!
The Cottage is such a special place for a celebration, or just
for a fabulous dinner, the menu is very, very creative and always
so very fresh.
We will be back very soon!!
Thank you for the beautiful service and attention to every detail,
all in all simply flawless!
Melanie is the best. What a wonderful experience
The Cottage is one of my favorite brunch spots in Fairfield County, CT.
The food is innovative and delicious, and the service is always great!
Consistently good . Carrot, beet, burrata appetizer very creative. Salmon always a good dish and pasta with lamb was nice addition. Service always friendly, efficient. Noise level can be a challenge.
Dining at the Cottage is truly a unique culinary experience!
If you don’t want to sit at the counter you need to specify!
The Cottage is definitely one of the best restaurants in Fairfield County. The food/service/ambience is all excellent. I love it! Thank you!
We have tried many time to snag a reservation at the cottage but always sold out. The dinning experience was certainly worth the wait for our birthday celebrations!
Service was exceptional and friendly and the food was delightful! We will return soon!
Excellent brunch. I find the dinner menu somewhat limited with mostly heavy, high calorie offerings. The brunch was superb - heavy meal but easier to deal with early in the day.
Consistently good. Menu offers good variety. Beet and carrot salad creative, fish, and tasty. Salmon always a good choice was cooked perfectly. A good Westport dining option.
