The Capital Grille - Houston - CityCentre Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated our late November anniversary at CG last year (2016). Our experience was lovely and our server was one of the trainers and he was outstanding, as was our food, so we decided to repeat our 25th anniversary dinner at CG this year and were quite underwhelmed. Upon arriving at exactly our reservation time, we were greeted by the hostesses and you would've thought someone just died (maybe someone did!). The two ladies were very unenthused and the hostess (not the one in the cute black dress with white trim, the other one) took off walking us to our table without saying anything to us. Our initial drink order took 20 minutes - not our waiter's fault, but irritating nonetheless. Our food came out undercooked. I ordered lobster that was chewy, even gristly. We sent that back and it came back out browned, but still chewy enough that it could not be swallowed. I sent it away and worked on my husband's 22 oz ribeye with him, which was undercooked (ordered medium, but was definitely rare). We don't like to complain and the steak was good, but not great, so we dealt with it, along with our barely warm, not hot, scalloped potatoes and brussels sprouts. I don't care if we're popping in for a evening out or a special occasion, I expect much better from CG. We didn't ruin our mood by complaining, but but I will definitely rethink celebrating or visiting in the future. Our server, Christopher, was professional and did his best despite the food glitches, so we took care of him, but I hope whoever was in charge of the kitchen Thursday night will be put back through training because the quality of our food was very below standards for CG. We've dined at the Galleria and City Centre location at least 20 times prior and always enjoyed it, but after Thursday's visit, I might have to rethink celebrating or visiting in the future. And with three premium steak restaurants within 1/10th of a mile, I'd think they'd try a little harder.
This has to be one of the BEST Capital Grill locations in the country! The food is always wonderful, we cannot resist the fried lobster appetizer - too good for words! What I love most about this location is the outstanding service! If you want everything - fabulous food, outstanding service in a comfortable beautiful place, look no further! Enjoy!!!
The CG "at City Centre" is a misnomer--it's 30 minutes from downtown Houston!! It's in a shopping center called City Centre. I called the restaurant three times to find someone who could tell me how far it was from my downtown hotel and not a single one said they knew anything about directions to the place! So I kept my reservation, made before coming to Houston, still thinking that with that name, it had to be in the center of the city. But when the time came to book a ride to the restaurant, I was terribly disappointed to find that it was a $20 Uber fare to get there!
Service attendent perhaps tried a little too much to engage us. ( could have done a quick google search on me and had some associated questions. Caymus failed to disappoint and was nice touch We came for a modest experience getting to try the caymus and the wagu Burgers. We were for a more casual experience. And needed a little opportunity to do some work
Asked multiple times how we wanted our meat cooked but did finally get it cooked medium To speed up exit I Gave waitstaff a credit card. Bill came withoyt the card and at first I thought I had lost the card. Calling the waiter back and asked if he still had my card, he seemed surprised to find that he had it in his pocket. His defense was that he wanted to give me plenty of time to review the bill.
As far as carmelizrd onion burger it had a nice presentation and properly cooked , but was very strongly salted. Wife enjoyed the bacon burger more.
This was the second time I have dined at The Capital Grill in 3 weeks. My wife and I travel expansively and seek out stellar dining experiences and use trip advisor and open table for help in new places to get reliable references. TCG was everything it was purported to be and exceeded our expectations in all categories.
The food was excellent, as usual the South Africn Lobster is so good and tasty. Love that cold water taste. We also had the bone-in filet mignon which tasted better.
Lobster crab cakes, creamed spinach and lobster mac n cheese were good additions.
Warm bread and butter.
Overall, an excellent meal and enjoyable night.
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly.
The food was good, but the service left much to be desired. The waitor didnt show up at our table for at least 15 minutes after we were seated. They are also stingy with the drinks. $13 for a martini where the glass is about 3/4 full, (and that is with three olives in the glass) not to mention the small martini glass to begin with. The service was poor, for example, it took 25 minutes to get my second drink, and the waitor blamed the delay on someone else who was supposed to bring the drinks out to our table, seems like a communication breakdown on the waitor's part to me. When this other person finally showed up with the drink (after the waitor figured out that I was still waiting), there was no smile, no hello, and no apology; in fact, she did not say a single word to anyone at our table. She looked angry to have to come out to our table. The waitor did not apologize either. Needless to say, I will not be returning. There were four of us, and to spend so much on a meal and not receive great service is totally unacceptable. I will stick to Eddie V's in the future.
We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. My wife had the filet and shrimp and I had the 18 oz. Kona crusted Strip steak. Both were excellent. This was an anniversary celebration and I had let the restaurant know in advance and they had specially decorated our table for the occasion. If you have a special occasion to celebrate this would be an excellent location. A little on the expensive side, but worth the extra cash if you can afford it.
We stopped in to experience the Wagyu & Wine offering, so we sat in the bar/lounge area. Our server did not do an exceptional job, however, everything else was excellent and overshadowed that part.
My wine was a very good deal as part of the Wagyu & Wine special and my wife's cocktail was made extremely well. The wagyu burger was cooked perfectly and our tenderloin sliders and mozzarella, tomato, basil salad were awesome. We were made to feel at home by the General Manager, Chris, as he welcomed us, asked how things were, and even greeted us outside as we waited to pick up our car from the valet.
Definitely a great meal and we plan to return soon.
The entire dining experience was superb. The waiter we had was excellent and the attention to detail was beyond our expectations. we can safely say that this will be on our top for dining spots(we have removed Perrys steakhouse-they could learn a lot from this restaurant).
Enjoyed the Houston Restaurant Week extension with friends after working long days during Hurricane Harvey. The food was great! I like that they offered some additional items for a slight upcharge. My husband said that the lobster bisque was definitely worth the additional $5. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable!
