Excellent food service and it felt like home
If you are looking for a steak house, look no further. This restaurant was chosen based on the rating on OpenTable, and we were not disappointed.
While our reservations were for 8:00pm and we got there at 7:40pm (coat check room a plus), we were seated at 8:20pm, BUT the delay was to accommodate my request for a "quiet" area of the restaurant. We were seated in the Wine Room - a small 8 table room off the main dining room that was well worth the wait.
Our server, Diego, was one of the best and most attentive servers I have ever had. Warm, welcoming, and very accommodating to our request for a slow and relaxing dinner.
We started with a bottle of Hess "Allomi" which was a nice surprise to see on the wine list. We started with a wonderful shrimp cocktail (5 pieces) served on a large bed of ice with a cheese cloth wrapped lemon (nice touch) and cocktail sauce. The Clam Chowder was nicely done (sand included, but understandable with the amount of clams in the soup). The Mushroom Bisque soup was very flavorful, creamy, and smooth.
The entree was a special that was an 8 oz Filet with a 6-8 oz South African Lobster Tail - we decided to split the entree and include an extra Lobster Tail which was just the right amount of "surf and turf" for us. We also ordered a small order of green beans - which were "ok". We thought a bit too under done (crunchy). The chef included an order of mashed potatoes on the house. The meal was great and each course was order and brought at our request - no rushing by Diego or the restaurant.
For dessert, we ordered the Key Lime Pie (with pistachios on top) that came with Chantilly cream and a red sauce garnish and the Coconut Cream Pie that came overflowed with Chantilly Cream that buried the Coconut Cream Pie so much so that the cream was used in the Kona Coffee that was also ordered with dessert.
Overall, if you could pick one restaurant in Chicago for a special dinner, you cannot go wrong with an evening at the Capital Grille!
My steak wasn't cook well. Ask for rare plus and came Medium. Couldn't eat at the same time with my wife
Blair was exceptional. She made us feel very welcomed for my birthday. Thank you Blair!
The Maine Lobster Salad was exquisitely delicious and the presentation was outstanding. I had very attentive service
from Rich at table 34.
However, there was a problem with my credit card not being returned after I paid
the check. This oversight might have been caused in using both a gift card and credit card. Nevertheless, upon returning to the
restaurant to retrieve my card, neither the hostess or my server offered any apology.
In fact, the hostess was especially insensitive
We always have a good experience at The Capital Grille. The service was excellent as usual. Our party of nine all ordered steaks , which some were slightly over-charred in my opinion. Deserts were excellent and the bar serves an excellent Manhattan.
Great experience! Cozy ambiance
Ambience was great. Server, Rich, was very attentive. Liked all the food, but the best was the Brussel sprouts.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary, and this was by far the best experience.
Our server John David was outstanding. The food was just ok, not great cuisine for the price. Seems it is not as good as used to be for steaks. Ambiance was great as always.
We had the best waiter I’ve EVER HAD his name was David and he was awesome! I was disappointed that they did not have crab legs so I got a lobster and it was great! The only negative thing I have to say is...When my husband and I were walking in the restaurant I was on snap chat recording us walking in and the young hostess ask me was I recording and I said yes i WAS but I’m not now and asked her why she said I was going to ask you to delete it bc there is no recording in the restaurant and I’m thinking like wtf as we sat down I noticed a lot of customers had the phone out and was recording or taking pictures, even the waiters were taking pictures of couples I just didn’t understand why the teenage waitress singled me out.! I bill was $200 and I just didn’t appreciate spending all that money to be mistreated
It was lovely.
Great food. steaks were perfect !
I’ve been to a Capital Grille before but this location wasn’t any different from my last wonderful experience. Valentine’s Day date for my fiancée it was her first time she loved it. Waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful with recommending an adult beverage.
I've been to Capital Grill at least a fifteen times. It never once has left me wondering about the quality of service or food. On a slow night, a busy night or for lunch, the food is always outstanding and the service is top shelf. Each year I go for my anniversary because it's old faithful; the server takes a picture (with the capital grill camera) and gives us a picture that we frame every year, there is confetti or rose petals on the table, they give us a glass of campaign, an outstanding dessert, and a handwritten note welcoming us back and wishing us a happy anniversary. When you add the outstanding food and fantastic service, there's no place we'd trust celebrating our special day to than Capital Grill. We do have a secret on how we save. We generally bring our own wine priced around $100 or so dollars. They charge us a corking fee, but they usually offer the wine we bring on the menu's too. They sell them for 300+. Since we already have wine, no need to get it from them and WE SAVE by bringing our own! Our last time there was Valentines Day. Busy for sure, but kudo's to them the food and service were stellar as usual.
Valentines Day and All Star weekend had the restaurant very busy, but we still had a good Valentines Day dinner.
Poor, slow service and food was very bland.
The food was amazing and front desk personal were perfect! Our waiter was out of this world!! He made our experience absolutely perfect. We will be coming back I promise you that. Thank you Grille for everything!!!
Amazing service. Good was good but definitely not worth the price. Calamari however was amazing!
Food was great and reasonably priced. Enjoyed ourselves.
Service and food were outstanding
Went for restaurant week!! One of the best deals! Food was fantastic!
Our server, Ralph, was excellent and all the food was just as great! We came for restaurant week and had the lobster bisque to start which was full of delicious lobster meat. Then we both ordered the 14oz NY strip and mashed potatoes which were great as well. We had a Pinot Noir with dinner too. Overall, great experience!
Ralph was a very attentive server. Everything was great except my steak was way overcooked; very well done when I ordered medium. I was too hungry and too happy with Ralph to bother him. I ate a little and wrapped it for my friend to take.
Enjoyed a very nice meal from the Restaurant Week menu.
We had rude service from a waitress. We mentioned to a supervisor who came to her defense. We've been there around a dozed times but will probable never come back.
We were at Capital Grille for my friends birthday and the food and service were excellent.
They rolled out the red carpet for a birthday celebration that I havent seen to that level before. From the table having confetti, a happy birthday note, a special desert, a photo printed out, and a champagne toast, they well exceeded my expectations for a celebration. The service was outstanding. The food was incredible. I highly recommend this location and will definitely be back soon!
We went for a restaurant week dinner. We are frequent Capital Grille diners and know what to expect of the food. They charged $36 per person for the meal, which seemed like a crazy deal. Once we received our food, the price made sense. They cut serious corners on the quality. The strip steaks were unusually wide and looked like ribeyes. They weren't as thick as they normally are. It was a really weird cut of meat. My wife ordered sliced filet, and she received what looked like parts of miscellaneous cuts of steak. Hers was really under cooked. She ordered hers medium rare, and it was still breathing. I'm really disappointed that the restaurant sacrified food quality for restaurant week. My wife was stunned that the kitchen sent out the plate of food that they did. When it came time for desert, we both received creme brulee in a ramekin that was about an inch in diameter. The table next to us received what looked like a normal serving size of creme brulee in a 3-4 inch wide shallow dish. Our server was great and very courteous. He ended up bringing out an additional desert when we joked about how small our portions were. I just don't know if we'll be back. The quality of the food was just really disappointing. I don't know what we were expecting for the price, but if you're going to cut that many corners, charge $48 and don't serve bad meat.
The food was very good. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was excellent
Perfect classic old school steakhouse vibes. Great experience and absolutely LOVED the restaurant week menu!
Food was extremely tasty from starter to dessert.
Always amazing John M is the best of the best! Food always a delight and atmosphere you will want to come back again and again!
The service was unmatched. The food was also wonderful. had a great time!
Wonderful, excellent, the best ever.
Excellent all the way around. I was celebrating my birthday but I didn’t inform the restaurant.
I have been a guest at this establishment twice before however I personally feel that because it was restaurant week the food was rushed. My salmon which is usually support and moist was very dry. My sweethearts steak was juicy however a bit overcooked all in all the side dishes were prepared well and the service was great
Made a reservation for 7:45 wasn’t seated for another 20 minutes.
