The Capital Grille - Austin Ratings and Reviews
Andrew was our waiter, and he was marvelous! Anniversary dinner. Sparkles on table, a card waiting at the table, and a mounted picture at the end. very nice event. Food was good. Service great. The only complaint I had was that I ordered the steak a little under medium. It was actually a little over medium. But still quite good.
Disappointed. Service was good up until we finished our meal. Sat there for 15 minutes before server came back. Food was mediocre. Not worth it. Literally eat out every night downtown and of all the steakhouses this our least favorite. Will not be coming back. There are too many great restaurants to settle.
I wanted to have a nice meal with my family two adults and two teens. There were no entrees under $50, I thought that was a bit over the top especially since everything was ala carte. The service was slow and we had to ask several times for a few items. Hard to choke down 20% tip on $400 when the service was very slow
Very slow service. We waited at the bar for our reservation to be ready. The bar service was slow and there weren’t many people in the bar area. I had to remind the hostess that we were waiting to be called. We were seated at a very small table. The lamp and salt and pepper shakers had to be removed to make room for our our plates. Waiter seemed unhappy, did not engage with us, did not refill waters.... We waited a little over an hour to get our food. The restaurant was not busy and I can see why. Will not return.
The food was very good. We had told our friends about the grille and we were excited to take them there. The food was good but the service was terrible. Ordering a glass of wine took forever. My last glass came out after I was finished with my meal. The other drinks were just as untimely. My beet salad never came and my friend was given a drink to make up for not having what she had ordered only to find the unordered drink on the bill. I was really disappointed.
As always, our experience for my birthday celebration was exceptional. From the hostess to the servers and even a visit from the manager, we were treated so special. We choose The Capital Grille for our special occassions because of the wonderful food and great service and they always exceed our expectations.
We went on Thanksgiving and the place was hopping. Unfortunately that meant the servers were running around like crazy, and our table was next to the kitchen door! Quiet conversation was impossible. The ambiance was nice and the food was delicious -- but it was not all that pleasant because of the noise and the hustle bustle of the kitchen.
Five us us ate at Capital Grill on Thanksgiving Day. Our waiter was very nice, but the service was mediocre. The portions were large, but not much flavor. It is a beautiful place, but not worth the cost. Parking is normally difficult in that part of downtown, but on Thanksgiving there was plenty. However, the valet parking was cheaper than the parking lot across the street. I was very disappointed with the Thanksgiving Turkey meal. My daughter had steak. She said it wasn't that tasty.
Preparing high end steak is an art form for steakhouses like the Capital Grille, Vince Young's etc. There must be a least 6-8 of them within walking distance of each other in downtown Austin.
We had never been to the Capital Grille before. It is a very nice, clubby sort of environment with soft lighting and lots of wood, the noise level was low to moderate and we could speak easily with each other. An easy setting for lingering over dinner.
We had three different types of salads which were very good, but not inspiring. The steak service however, was a disaster. One dish was cooked to the wrong temperature; one dish which was delivered was not what was ordered; the third steak was ok but tough - my wife said the quality of this steak was no better than that which we can get at Costco. The only standout were the scallops, they were large, meaty and perfectly broiled.
I won't rank this as the best steakhouse in Austin and you can even get better steaks at a standard restaurant.
Capital Grille did not disappoint.I made the reservation for 5 for my son's birthday. We asked if we could sit at the bar for a before dinner drink and there was no problem! My Kettle One Martini was spot on! When we arrived at the table, there was a special touch, they had sprinkled Happy Birthday confetti on the tablets well as a personal note. I ordered the filet and honestly it was one of the best steaks I have ever had. I am pretty picky, so hats off! I asked for medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The service was great. Kyle was attentive but not overly intrusive. The wine selection was great as well. I would highly recommend Capital Grille.
It was nice for a date. Waited about 30 minutes after our reservation time for a table. Servers were excellent. Food was good, but not worth the price. Steak was great quality, but overcooked. Calamari was great, just wish there was a dipping sauce to go along with. Loud dining room, but dark and romantic.
I took my son to the restaurant for his birthday. Our table was decorated with confetti and there was a card from the restaurant. All very festive but understated and classic. The food and service was first class as expected from a restaurant with the reputation of Capital Grille. Well worth the price and the event I had hoped for to celebrate his birthday.
We had a wonderful evening in celebration of our anniversary. They had a special table ready and decorated and the service and atmosphere is wonderful! We really enjoyed ourselves and felt at home and well cared for! Great experience and great steaks! Thank you Capital Grill!!
