We came for Sunday brunch and it didn’t disappoint. Bottomless mimosas, and plated entrees. Highly recommend the ceviche!
The food was delicious eggs Benedict best I’ve had.great tuna toast. Service impeccable!
First time there and everything was great! Hope to be back again!!!
After waiting 15 minutes for
We had swordfish and salmon for entre. Fish was fresh and good, preparations were bland and nothing special. Calamari and green salad were better. Chocolate cake was excellent. Service was slow and inattentive for such a place. Overall 7 out of 10 for both of us. Very expensive for what we experienced.
My wife and I frequent the cannery often. Enough so that the servers recognize us and know us by our first names. We always have great service and the food is fantastic. I have to comment on the prefix menu for valentines night...it was not up to par. We would have loved the normal menu way better than the prefix menu. I hate to say, I will not be making a reservation for valentines night in the future if the regular menu is not offered. Please bring back the octopus appetizer!
excellent for Valentine's day dinner, although I was not made aware ahead of time that it was a pre-fixed menu. But in the end, that worked out fine.
Was not told that this was a "set menu" before we arrived. Probably would not have gone here if we had know about this menu.
A special Valentines menu that was truly special
I frequently go to the Cannery as I love the location right on the water and the outdoor seating is simply the best. I booked a table for Valentine's Day on Open Table and there was no reference of a fixed menu and selected this restaurant because of this fact. When I arrived I was told that they only had a fixed menu to offer, we decided to stay anyway. I try and stay away from fixed menu's as the food is usually not that good as it is mass prepared and I simply like to have choices. I was hoping this time would be different but sadly it was. The scallops were way to salty, might be because I have pretty much cut salt from my diet so tasted it more, and the steak was super tough. When the waitress came to clear the plates she asked if all was okay and we mentioned our issues but that was it. Our waitress then addressed this with the manager, Alyssa McDiarmid who then came to the table to discuss the issue. It was not our intent to get her involved on a busy night like this but her attention to the issue and taking time to speak with the table was much appreciated. Thank you for making us matter and for addressing the issue.
If I could rate 6 stars, I would. Everything was wonderful.
Wonderful as always!
Yes, but hopefully with gift certificate or on a special occasion. Prices high, but food, service and overall experience definitely worth it. 1st time in main dining room, everything well above par. Recommended.
Looking forward to trying sushi bar next time.
Great restaurant and a lovely location on the Newport Harbor! Go there lots and will continue that into the future!
Food, service (Cory) and ambiance was fantastic!!
Felt like the waiter forgot us. Other parties were quite obtrusive too,
We had a delicious dinner with a great view. This restaurant is very nice. Our out of town guests really enjoyed it.
Disappointing visit....visited years ago many times....service was ok....had to ask for bread.....my sea bass was pink in the center....the manager brought me a properly cooked sea bass and took it of the bill, but it should not have happened to start with....
Wine list very good. Dessert very yummy
We arrived at the historic Cannery Restaurant in Newport Beach. on an overcast, cool Sunday evening in January for a quiet, intimate dinner to celebrate my wife’s birthday.
The Cannery is one of our favorite dining spots. We were promptly seated at our favorite table and greeted by our waiter, Robert.
We ordered the crab cake appetizer from the menu to begin. My wife then ordered her favorite entree, the Roasted Australian Lobster Tail. I followed her lead and opted for the Roasted Australian Lobster Tail for my entree as well.
The servings were presented as desired and timed for our enjoyment. After our wonderful dinner, Robert, our waiter, presented my wife with a complementary. rich, thick chocolate cake served warm, drizzled with valrhona chocolate sauce topped with Chantilly cream for her birthday. I, fortunately, was allowed to share her birthday dessert!
Love this little bayside, historic restaurant. Though very modern from its humble beginnings, it is a treasure here in Newport. The service is always friendly, the food is top quality, and that chocolate moulten cake for dessert is delicious. Thanks for another lovely dinner Cannery, we will see you again soon.
Amazed to have the owner stop by! Our server was very accommodating and professional. The food was exquisite!
Our table on the patio was great with the water view. The waitress was very good. The food was very good. Was a nice bday lunch with friends.
Very nice patio, friendly service, fine food. We had a great time in this restaurant.
Truly a waste of time and definitely money. The ambiance was lovely but the food could not have been of poorer quality. The salmon was fishy in the extreme, salads lackluster and wilted. Fish and chips better in the frozen food section of your grocery store. And extremely expensive. I don’t mind paying for excellent quality, well-prepared cuisine served with personality and joy. What a disappointment. In fact, I love paying for and enjoying a wonderful evening out dining. This was rushed, tasteless and expensive. Not my best birthday meal for sure. (We noted it is my birthday in the reservation but no mention of it.
And yet the streams of people coming here to dine are endless. I am dumbfounded. And sorely disappointed.
It was our 3 year anniversary and we return to the cannery the sight of our 1st date had a great time great dinner will always remember the cannery.
Happy Anniversary from the whole Cannery team. The Cannery is truly a special place and it brings joy to my heart you feel the same way. Jesse Riley Manager
Excellent service! Celebrating a birthday. It was very special but not stuffy.
Happy Birthday from the whole Cannery team and thank you for joining us on your day. Jesse Riley Manager
For the price the food was mediocre.
Good dinner. Steak undercooked. Didn’t get it back to table for 10 minutes.
Thank you for the review, we are sorry to hear that you didn't get the steak prepared to your liking and had to wait for us to fix it and make it right. We at the Cannery view your review as a tool to constantly improve and provide you a "great" dinner. Will you consider joining us in the near future and have the Cannery make your steak the way it's supposed to be made? Jesse Riley Manager
Our waiter was fantastic. The food was delish but when I read the menu I didn’t know what quite a few items were. I felt sorry for the waiter because I had to ask him many questions about it. Excellent food though; I’ll be back soon.
Food and service was extremely delicious. Highly recommended.
The Cannery is in an excellent location in Newport Beach. The food was great, the atmosphere is nice and casual. Feels like a nice high class night out!
We had a table on the outside deck and the heat lamps provided enough heat that we were fine until about 7:00 when it became cooler outside. We were finished eating by them so it was all good. We really enjoyed Jamie, our waiter. He has a fun sense of humor!
Alphonso was our server and he was great. Very attentive and without being intrusive.
Great Meal...fresh fish and good service. Truly enjoyed.
Phenomenal service and well executed dishes. Would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion.
Our meal at The Cannery was lovely! Signature coxktails, great shrimp cocktail and beautiful lobster and pasta entrees. Brad was a great bartender after hours ans let us stay past closing. Highly recommend the downstairs more formal bar.
We have always enjoyed the Cannery but our New Year's Eve dinner service was very slow and lackluster. We were seated closer to 8:00 for our 7:30 reservation and served dinner at 9:20. Hits: sushi, oysters, black cod. Miss: Casesar salad, lobster pasta.
We had a reservation here for NYE dinner when visiting Newport Beach on vacation. Some of the food was ok, but nothing special. I had a crab cake and the salt baked Yukon potatoes. I took two bites of the crab cake and couldn’t eat any more as the taste was overwhelmingly fishy. Potatoes were fine but not amazing - pretty plain. My kids ordered the chicken (she liked), salmon (liked), a Caesar salad (too much dressing), and clam chowder (good). My husband got the lobster pasta which tasted good but was very oily. The service was the worst though. Our server pretty much just abandoned us. I had one drink which I finished halfway through the first course, was planning to order a glass of wine to have with dinner but she didn’t come by to even check on us until we were 3/4 done eating. Then she took my crab cake plate which was completely uneaten and didn’t bother to ask if something was wrong with it. For almost $300 for a party of five, I expect more in the way of service. The rest of my family were underwhelmed with their food as well relative to our expectations. We dine out often. We didn’t bother to stay for dessert - the server left us with the dessert menus for 10 minutes and it was incredibly loud so we had a hard time hearing each other over the loud singer and the other diners talking over it. I had to eat more when we got back to our Airbnb. Disappointing experience for a special occasion.
Wonderful food, superb atmosphere and great waiters. Enjoyed it all!
