Excellent food and service! The view is outstanding!
Great view, great service, very large portion for entree (seared ahi tuna), wonderful sauce on the entree. Overall a very pleasant evening for dinner.
Celebrated a birthday. Great location, great food, great value.
My partner and I had come in at 7:20PM for our reservation at 7:30PM. We were greeted by 3 hostesses. We were hoping to get a seat outside the patio or even under the covered area and requested so when making the reservation. The hostess explains to us that the the patio and covered areas are full and ask us if we would like a seat inside instead. We decided to wait a few minutes to see if a spot outside would clear up. Around 15 minutes have passed and the hostess proceeds to tell us that they think it will be a while until a patio table will be available. We said that we could wait a few more minutes because we really wanted dinner on the patio. Another 10 minutes pass and a new hostess (which we found out later was a server) comes and speaks with us and explains again that they don't think that a patio table will clear. At this point, I personally felt that they just wanted us seated and didn't care that we had already waited 25 mins just for a potential seat out in the patio. The hostess then chimes in and says that they'd want us seated because last call for drinks was a 8:15PM and we overhear the server whisper "I thought they changed last call to 9:00PM". Despite the waiting, I asked the server if we could be moved outside once a spot opened up. She told us that she would speak to her manager and hopefully work something out. We proceed to sit at a table inside because they had been so insistent on us being seated inside.
Neither 3 of the hostesses or the server who had seated us at the table came back with any news if we could be seated outside if a table opened up. We decided to not order anything yet because I had spotted a table out on the patio that was just cleaned. we watched a new group walk inside, pass us with one of the hostesses that was speaking to us earlier, and go straight outside the patio and occupy the newly cleaned table. As my partner and I walk out, the hostesses tell us to "have a good day", but I can hear sarcasm from a mile away.
Shawn our server was outstanding and the miso crusted halibut and the Ahi tuna were delicious! Perfectly done
With no one in line to get in and a few empty tables on the patio as well as being ready to have another round of drinks, they asked us to leave due to their 90 min rule. Not very smart when guests want to spend money. Our waiter had terrible problems getting our bill correct and organized. He added an extra drink to it and then when asked to get the appropriate items on with each person he had to try three times and still didn’t have them correct.
Even if you make a reservation you are not guaranteed a patio or window seat and it is EXTREMELY cold in there. They are unable to turn up the heat so make sure to bring a jacket. We were very disappointed that even if a window or patio seat opens up they won’t let you move tables. Food was ok. The view is beautiful.
the waiter was very kind and attentive, the view was so lovely even though it was cloudy . definitely recommend coming here for any celebration !
It was my cousin’s birthday yesterday and I had asked for a little dessert to be brought out, but nothing was given. It was disappointing. The food was good, the view was nice, but would’ve loved that little surprise.
We ordered clam chowder and Caesar salad, seafood grill, and fish and chips. All were cold!!!!! Coffees were cold. On my seafood grill there were 2 prawns, 1 scallop, two stuffed prawns, two tablespoons of rice, and very few cold vegetables. I left the restaurant hungry. For the price, 5 pieces of seafood was not enough. The service was good, but cold dinners were disappointing. We will not be back.
Beautiful view, friendly service, good food. Overall good experience.
Fabulous view, excellent service, a wonderful restaurant!
Disappointing experience with management. Had made a reservation and was given an inside table by the window, but asked the hostess to have a table on the patio while the sun was out and the weather was good. I told her that I would like to have drinks on the patio and then dinner inside. She said no prob…so far so good. Enjoyed drinks on the patio and then when it became cold and asked to move to one of the many empty tables inside for dinner. The manager told us that we would have to be tucked in the back corner out of sight if we wanted to come inside because we can’t move around the restaurant because of Covid, like we were some kind of super spreaders. We wore masks have both been vaccinated but we’re not allowed a decent table inside after being patrons on the patio for over 2 hours. The manager clearly is out of his league, I expect more from the boathouse. He was gruff, aggressive, unapologetic and unprofessional..plain and simple. As any self respecting person would do, we left and spent $200 on dinner elsewhere. Very disappointing, won’t be retuning.
I love The Boathouse - i have been a customer for years. The food is consistently great, the service is always lovely, fast and accommodating and the view cannot be compared! Would recommend to anyone who wants great food, an amazing view and good value for quality food.
Service was very slow and staff levels appeared to be minimal
Caesar salad very good. My friend is celiac and they accommodated her.
Nice lunch with a great view! I recommend The Boathouse
I ordered a tuna poke bowl and the tuna was still frozen in the middle. there was also very little poke sauce with it. way too expensive for a bad-tasting meal.
I usually don’t take the time to review places but definitely had to speak out about this one!
It started off with the bad attitude of the hostess when asked about seating options. We wanted to sit in the covered area of the patio with a view of the beach. This was misunderstood and we were taken outside to the uncovered area. As we didn’t want to sit in the harsh sun, we asked for the covered area and were given the worst attitude about it and told it was unavailable. We were then seated indoors (with zero view), and we asked our server if it was possible to wait for a table to open up in the covered patio area (since we were 10 minutes early for our reservation anyways). She told us that there would be no tables opening up in the next 10 minutes and proceeded to take our order. Within 5 minutes of that, a table opened up in the exact area we had asked for (and our server was the one cleaning that table). When she came back with water, we asked if we could be moved there since it was now free. She said she would go check and came back and told us that her manager would come and explain to us why that wouldn’t be possible. 20 minutes later, the manager had still not come to see us.
By then, we got our food and we barely touched it because it was made poorly and had zero flavour. When our server came to ask us how our food was, she prompted to know how we really felt as we’d barely touched our food. When we told her the truth, she said she would go speak to the manager to get our food compensated for since we were unhappy with it. She then came back and stated that the manager apologized for our experience and offered us a “free appetizer” coupon for our NEXT visit (which can only be redeemed with a purchase of ANOTHER entree). Why would you offer compensation for a bad untouched meal and then return with an offer for us to come back and spend more money on horrible service?? We told our server that we will NOT be needing those coupons and left them on the table
It was my 54th Birthday and got a table right in front of Kits Beach. Outstanding service, and we really enjoyed the Yam Fries! Can't wait to go back.
Everything was good except for the bar options. I was hoping for a St. Germaine martini and there was no St. Germaine liqueur.
We went for our anniversary and we were really looked after. The staff and food were excellent.
Great view , service and food. We had a great time.
The server was very efficient and attentive
Really beautiful patio with great views of kits beach! Solid selection on happy hour menu
We had a lovely birthday celebration for my sister. The food was great and our wonderful server Mary made it a very festive occasion indeed! Because of social distancing and cloudy weather, we didn't have the spectacular views we're accustomed to at the Boathouse but that was no fault of the staff. All in all, a delightful afternoon ...
Calimari was lukewarm and tiny
Excellent service, food and ambience. Fabulous view! Most enjoyable.
We were there to celebrate a friend’s birthday. My daughter had treated me there for my birthday in April and I couldn’t wait to go back to the Kitsilano location. The five of us had an exceptional time, best table in the house, awesome food drinks and service. The overhead heat lamps kept us warm and comfortable. I would do this again. Hopefully soon.
This was just unacceptable.
I’m not even going to mention the little bug I found in my salad (I know it can happen) but the other one is just wow.
A group of us, 6 people, celebrating and all and sudden one of our friends bites a bolt (rusty nail) in his pasta - he almost broke his tooth !
The server brings the head Chef and not a word from the GM (I worked in the same industry and almost all at the table too so we found it a bit weird but ok).
The Chef was apologetic and explains that the bolt was from the pan handle but get this - he brings coupons for a free appetizer as an apology, only it’s not actually free because you have to get a main course to get your free appy! I mean talk about cheap and unprofessional!
Not to mention that he didn’t even mentioned voiding my friend’s plate (the job of a GM of course, but hello?)!!!
As you can imagine, we were 6 people and we had lots of appies, drinks and main courses and not even a round of drinks was offered, or taking some of the appies off the bill, maybe a 10% discount, zero.
When I went to pay i asked to speak to the GM I learned that the manager wasn’t even aware of what happened and he only heard it from me! The GM was exceptionally nice and apologetic and said he’ll void his dish immediately and added some deserts for us for free, which was nice of him but honestly… it was my wedding day too and the whole thing was handled so poorly. Not to mention that I’m pregnant and that bolt could have ended in my plate.
We were nice and didn’t make a fuss, especially the friend who bit on the bolt and I feel like if showed a bit more discontent they would have handled this differently.
I’m also still in awe of the “free” appy coupon - for shame.
Loved the patio and the free band playing below us, it was very nice.
Meeting up with our son and new girlfriend.
Our waiter was fantastic!
Need waiting staff trained to deal with food allergies like Dairy and Gluten.
The food was really great! Our server was a little unpleasant and awkward to talk to. We also wanted refills on drinks several times and couldn't find him. The beautiful views made up for it!
I rated my experience as only a 1 star as in no way do I want to blame the server for my experience. She seemed good, but when I arrived at 4:40pm my guest was already seated, when my guests glass of wine was brought a few minutes later I immediately ordered a glass of happy hour wine and indicated that we would order shortly. At 5:05pm I still did not have my glass of wine, I then asked a different server if I could get it and then at 5:10pm our server arrived with my wine...we then ordered the happy hour food we had hoped to order before happy hour ended and when I arrived at 4:40pm. I absolutely positively understand how the pandemic has changed our lives, but I couldn't help but wonder if my wine and our food ordering was delayed until after happy hour time at 5pm.
Regardless I will visit Boathouse again as I will continue to support local businesses.
We had the most terrible, on uninterested and slow server I’ve ever experienced. We waited over 45 minutes for our food (with no explanation) and the server barely came back to check on us. He was either stoned or acting like a deer in the headlights the whole time. When it was busy he walked super slow. When things slowed down drastically he still almost never came around. I still tipped 18% and I regret it. Had to chase him down for everything including the bill. Somebody get the long-haired guy with glasses out of there he’s a terrible server! I never go back.
Very ‘average’ food
Beautiful patio, service was decent. Food was pricey and good but not great.
I spilled a glass of wine after the bill had been paid and no one came by again so we sat there with a gross looking table.
We asked to change tables due to a windy day and we’re not allowed to. Food mediocre.
