Love the Greek meatballs, gnocchi, and berry crumble! We sat outside under the hanging lights, and it was absolutely lovely.
Table of four seated at a table for three with an extra chair sticking out into the walkway. Some of the food was prepared, seasoned, and plated well, but some of it was mid-warm. Repeated looks from the kitchen staff toward the end of the night was a nice touch too.
I don't think it was worth the $150 tab for a shared app, two meals and no alcohol.
I may return, but probably not.
Always enjoy the food and service at Bistro! Especially love Matt who gives service his all!
Good food, great service but a bit on the pricey side. Will try again for sure.
Great place, amazing food!!!! Would dine here again.
My friend and I enjoyed a delicious lunch. The curried cauliflower soup was very good. We also very much enjoyed the noodle salad with pork belly. the combination of warm and cold, spicy and mild was very nice. The dark chocolate mousse was very creamy topped with beautifully ripe berries, and the cannoli a treat.
What a great place! Went on a double date here for Valentine's Day. The food was great and the ambiance was quaint but inviting. The staff was precise and helpful. Toward the end of our meal the owner, Maria approached us and we ended up talking until after the restaurant closed! She's the greatest!
We had been before, but this time the food was just ok...very expensive, and we would have been better off going to Tony's for the same price.
I thought the service was really outstanding. I thought the food was also outstandingly priced. For the price, you can't beat this place because the food and ambiance feels higher end but not as high as a Perry's or Flemings so it's pretty nice. To be fair we sat in a really dark corner but I think the rest of the tables were more well lit. But I really had a problem with the too dimly lit table we sat at, I could not see my food and I couldn't see the menu and I don't even need to wear reading glasses or anything so if was definitely dark, I could barely see my two friends I was with. The food tasted very clean and fresh, very made from scratch but not as good as a higher end chain restaurant. I'm sure if I tried more of the dishes they served, I may change my mind but only having tried 3 different dishes there, I would give the food 3 stars. I had the quail, the beet salad, and the duck and pork flatbread. My friend had the soup and she said it was the best thing there.
Sat at a small table in the corner of a room near the bar. Very isolated and not a comfy feeling.
The service was very attentive. We enjoyed our dinner out. For appetizers we had the cauliflower soup and the the special salad of the day, both were delicious. For our entrees we choose the gnocchi and the chilean sea bass. My husband loved the home made gnocchi. I had the sea bass which was cooked nicely and served on a bed of spinach. The flavors worked well. We will be going back!
Terrible Experience. A Chef Driven and advertised restaurant of which no chef was on site.
Server was rushing us, checking on us ever 4 or 5 minutes, yet missed the Crab Cake we ordered for appetizer.
The beer we ordered was out of stock. The Beet Dish we ordered, the Beets were not "ready marinating" as we were told.
We ordered a Filet medium and Prawn dish with "Avocado & Fresh Tomato". The prawn dish arrived and was really 21 - 28 count shrimp, not Prawns or even large shrimp and the side was actually very bland Guacamole, with two diced cubes of tomato.
The Filet was actually well done, dry and tasteless with four small baby carrots and a poorly seasoned and bland Potatoes Au Gratin.
Lastly, the check for two was over $120.00 for two entrees, three beers and a Crab Cake.
Absolutely a rip off. Very deceptive for sure.
Will not return
Sonenjoyed everything about our evening out at The Black Sheep Bistro. Great friends, food and drink- what could be better. Even got to spend time talking with Maria. Such a wonderful experience!
Chilean sea bass, superve
Wine very good
Everything was fantastic, and great service. I would like to see them expand the menu a bit, but it's a small place and everything is made to order and delicious. Great for a date night or special occasion.
The decor was not much to look at - simple and refurbished-looking and very clean - but the food was excellent. We had hamburger sliders and a shrimp and avocado dish served with asparagus. The seasoning on the shrimp dish was superb. The server was very pleasant and accommodating. She answered all our questions and made us feel at home.
Best steak I have had in quite a while. Looking forward to trying other menu items at our next visit.
I had the New York strip and it was, second to none, the saltiest steak I've had to date... Joe's crab cake was memorable; however, it was a little on the saltier side of life as well. The appetizer was just fantastic . It was the duck & pig flatbread I believe, everyone enjoyed it immensely! The curried cauliflower soup was spot on, I would surely return any day for the soup... The Steak was cooked medium rare as I had requested, there was just too much salt! Thanks guys!
First time to this restaurant but I've had people tell me about it. It is in a small frame cottage in Old Town Spring. Very charming and quaint atmosphere. Very quiet, nice and relaxing. I had duck flatbread for appetizer and a huge pork chop in cherry sauce for entree. Had the wedge salad too. Everything tasted great! The chef came out to see how we liked everything. Nice young man. I will definitely be going back. I love places like this that have this atmosphere with food that is unique...not your everyday type restaurant. Loved it!!!
Recommended by a friend, will be going back for sure. Kind of a long drive for me but worth it. Great curry squash soup and eggs Benedict with crab.
This place was amazing!! The miso glazed Chilean Seabass was mind blowing. The waitress with red curly hair was such a pleasure. Fantastic experience. Will definitely be back!
It was my first choice to celebrate my birthday. I did not realize the lamb/beef sliders are not on dinner menu...but the chef gave me "gift" of preparing them for me. Great memories.
Great food and a cute place to go for brunch!
Understaffed. Waited over 20 min to be seated even though had reservation. Slow service only 1 waiter.
We had the pork belly salad = excellent, then the sea bass that was not moist and soft, rather gummy and the spinach was salty and overgarliced
We went for Sunday brunch and the food was very good . I had the prawns and asparagus with avocados it was a very pleasant dish ,shrimp were cooked perfect. We had a private table right beside the bar. They did also have outside setting, but we like inside best.
Great dinner although I miss the lamb chops.
Has the makings of a neighborhood gem! However, a ways to go. Food was very good but we did not know there were specials until we were eating andoverheard from another server. Noted that server provided specials descriptions to each table. Our server NEVER offered specials to any of her tables.
Taped music volume needs to be toned down. Background music is meant to provide psychological comfort, not annoying.
Decor is less than basic and has to be improved. The cloth entrance/exit for servers is, well, really unacceptable. Wine by the glass pricing is too high for very average wines.
Having said all that, it would not take too much effort to elevate this facility to a gem. Short menu is impressive. Curried cauliflower soup us quite spectacular. Our server had no idea what the veg greens were served with my entree. When asked, she took a stab at spinach and asparagus......WRONG! Turnip greens I believe. Very bitter but offset with sweet black cherries and sauce.
Love trying small entrepreneurial restaurants where hard work is being applied. We shall return to try other menu items. Hopefully, some things are improved and this small facility can enjoy significant success.
Great food, beautifully prepared, charming ambiance, service was attentive, but not proactive. I will go back and try a few other interesting looking dishes.
The waitress was very rude and treated us like we had never been to a restaurant before. She was annoyed with my questions re freshness of seafood (many places don't admit to theirs being frozen). We also asked if they could make a simple dish from the menu without sauce as we were with a very polite 10 year old. She got mad and said no and then angrily stated she would not combine food from the owners' other restaurant for us. That was never our intention at all and were quite surprised at her anger. We have never been to the other restaurant and only know they have pizza. All we were wondering was if gnocchi or another dish could be served with the sauce on the side. I guess not here, ever.
We ended up ordering 2 appetizers for the table and 4 entrees for the five of us. No salads, no deserts, and very little alcohol.
Maybe she was just having a bad night, but it will be while before we go back. Too bad. We had met the owners and were really looking forward to eating here.
The food was ok, certainly not worth the price or experience we had. :(
Food was excellent. It definitely seems like a new restaurant still tryin to get in an its feet. Has the potential to be a stand out establishment in all of Spring. The service staff needs a little bit of refinement to reflect the stellar cuisine. She disappeared on us for a while while we were eating and I had to replace my own fork from a napkin on another table because the server didn't and she never came back. Other than mediocre service, we were there to eat a good meal and were highly impressed. The cauliflower soup is out of this world and everything else was perfectly seasoned. We will be back to help keep this chef in business :)
Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. The menu is limited but the food is very well prepared. We had two appetizers, the crab cake and the pork belly soba salad. Delicious. The soba salad would make a great lunch or split between 2 people for a dinner appetizer. For dinner I had the quail and my husband had the Chilean Sea Bass. Both were cooked perfectly and the quail was well seasoned. We will go back.
I Yelped about this after this recent lunch. Since last year, they have made a steady decline- very hit or miss. This last time, we had mediocre meals and the service was trying to rush us, even though it was a 1:30 lunch. At $140.00 tab, I don't expect a mediocre meal or to be rushed. I don't know if they took their eye off the ball since opening a second place in Old Spring- or they have become arrogant. Which is it? For those prices, the food and service need to be better, and dependable.
Might not return. Dispappointing after 6 visits.
This was my second time coming here. The first time was probably over 3 years ago.
I like the cottage feel, small intimate restaurant. but they put us away from the actual restaurant, on the hallway side, almost like an after thought. Our table was a small 2 seater by the window, separate from the rest of the restaurant.
The service was ok. We kept having to ask for the water to be refilled. The owner seemed to always interrupt us in the middle of our conversation to check on us.
The food was SALTY. this was the same problem 3 years ago and why we didn't come back.
I had the sea bass, very salty, with spinach.
My friend had the crab cake, nothing amazing.
Would probably not come back.
I was sad. 47.00 For small fritata, fruit and waffle plus 2 iced teas. My food was 10 minutes later and cold compared to my partner's. Plus the screaming kids at the table next to us didn't help. Oh, I asked for pepper and they brought pre - ground supermarket pepper. Something was wrong with the back area it was all dirty and messy. This place used to be real cute and nice.
The wait staff was extremely pleasant and helpfull.
Good brunch and friendly staff , that always makes a difference for me !
Wonderful restaurant. My second time there and it was even better than the 1st. Not cheap but absolutely worth every penny. Loved it!
Not a great experience. Atmosphere of the the place was nice although they were playing loud rap music with curse words when we sat down to eat - that was weird. Service was just ok. My table and the only other one occupied in the place ordered the moussaka. The waitress brought out our order but mistakenly went to the other table - dropped off my moussaka there and then came to our table to deliver my wife's meal. 10 minutes later another moussaka arrived and was brought to my table, and the second meal for the couple at the other table was delivered. So my wife had her meal 10 mins before I did. Food was ok. Wife ordered the sea bass with spinach - spinach was so salty it was not edible. Way too expensive for this level of service and food. Pretty disappointing.
My husband and I had a weekend get a way and decided to try this place and it was amazing. Wish we lived closer so we could visit more often but I would definitely recommend it to anyone in the Spring area!
