We had some apps, masala chai, and two entrees. They were all amazing and piping hot! The chicken pieces are large and perfectly cooked, very juicy. The blend of seasonings is spectacular and moist rice a great complement. We only tried one of the naans and look forward to trying more in the future. Thali does a wonderful job at doing what they do best!
I enjoyed the food, and it was very quiet. I went on a Saturday night- it was quiet, and that were quick and able to accommodate the large group that I was with. Overall, awesome experience.
Best Indian food in New Haven county.
The food and atmosphere were good. Our only problem was how spicy it was. We requested most of our dishes to be "not spicy" and even though the waiter said they were not spicy, some of them were.
Our trip there again.
Food is tasty and the service is with a smile.
Would love to go back.
Overall very good. Food is always excellent. Service on this occasion was a bit slow and I would recommend turning the lights up just a little bit.
Have been coming here for years and they have come a long way in , elevating their standards in menu development, pricing and crowd attraction. We were there on a Saturday night; it was very busy and they were overwhelmed. But, service was friendly and our meals very good.
Thali's food and atmosphere are a cut above the typical Indian restaurant, but the prices are a bit higher as well. We went for a pre-theater dinner on a Saturday night and were glad we got there at 5:45, beating the crowd. By 6:30 it was packed. We liked the minty Palak Pakora "chat" for an appetizer along with a spicy cauliflower dish. The Coconut Saag Lamb Curry was also very good. The service was attentive and prompt. It is in a trendy neighborhood and we found street parking easily, although there is a public garage next door as well. We like Heirloom the best but it is impossible to get a pre-theater table there on a Saturday night unless you plan ahead, something we are not very good at!
The food was amazing! Full of flavor! The waitress Carla was very nice! Kept on top of everything without giving us that "hovering" feeling! Cannot wait to go back!
The food here was entirely mediocre. I had heard good things but was ultimately disappointed. The temperature of the food was slightly more than warm, I even wondered whether the samosas were just poorly reheated. My daughter requested that her dish be spicy but it was mild. The only good thing was that it was quiet enough to talk but I suspect that was because it was not full. I would not return unless I had no other option.
Just great Indian food coupled with superior service. The lamb biryani was delicious and filled with lamb and the chicken tika was outstanding! The nan was piping hot and the lassi was creamy and flavorful. Whenever we're in New Haven, it's a must stop restaurant that offers consistently excellent food!
Thali is one of the best Indian restaurants around. I have never had a bad meal here. Staff is very attentive and friendly.
We were returning for the Sunday buffet after a prolonged absence and it was even better than we remembered. The selection was extensive and quality of food outstanding. We'll be back a lot sooner!
A trip to New Haven isn't complete without a visit to Thala.
Excellent Indian food. Hyderabad specialties, like Biryani, were very good. And the music is good jazz for a nice ambience..
Average fate and not great food. Very expensive. Not at all worth it.
It's always a treat to return to Thali in New Haven. The food continues to be special and served with attentiveness by the friendly staff. The Owner always has a smile and a warm greeting. Give yourself a treat!
My husband and I have been to Thali about 20 times in the past two years and the food has been consistently excellent whether it's a meat or vegetarian dish. The spices are distinct and flavorful but not overpowering. The Gobi Manchurian appetizer makes you forget you're eating cauliflower and their lamb chop is pure heaven. Select any of the biryani dishes and you will not be disappointed. In addition, the wait staff is extremely courteous, helpful and attentive.
This 9th Square gem is still going strong. The kitchen puts forth delectable dishes and not just the typical Indian fare.
Indian food is a favorite of mine when done well, and everything here was done well. We went for an early lunch to just catch up and enjoy the afternoon. This place was perfect. Service was good without being intrusive. Everything we ordered was delicious, and easy to share. The wine was delightful. Would definitely do this again.
I have had Indian food in many different parts of the world and I have to say this ranks amongst the best!
Had an excellent dinner here with my girlfriend. We went for a date night and had a great time. Everything was excellent as noted by the five stars. Biggest tip is that on Sundays they do a lunch buffet where the whole menu is available to sample. We will definitely be back because everything on the menu sounded worth eating. I will also not the service was superb, attentive, and the staff was very attentive.
Consistently good Indian food. A solid regular. Service can sometimes be a bit slow, even when not too busy.
We have enjoyed Thali many times and will continue to do so. However, the food didn't seem quite up to their usual pizazz on this particular night.
Based on reviews, I expected to be wowed. I wasn't. I liked the buffet more than my husband did (he would have given 2 stars). Waited forever to get water. And the naan came after we had finished our meal. This despite the fact that there were several servers. Will not return.
Thali serves superior Indian food in a pleasant and attractive atmosphere.
Great food and they have an amazing list of adventurous cocktails. Went to celebrate Father's day lunch buffet. There was a huge selection of food and lots of wonderful dishes but they did run out of some items rather early in the buffet time frame. I saw some disappointed customers. I was fine since what they had was already enough. I guess if you want to be sure to try everything, go early. But considering what you get, the lunch buffet is super for those who want to try out lots of different dishes. Dinner prices are much higher.
We look forward to the times we can visit Thali at New Haven for the Sunday buffet lunch, and this last visit did not disappoint. The selection was both varied and plentiful, ambience friendly and welcoming, and service courteous and efficient.
Gobi (cauliflower) and palak pakora were great! Lamb chops, chicken tikka masala and naan delicious. Servers courteous and quick. Nice ambience.
We did the small plates and tasted several different things. All of them delicious.
Great food but the service was bad the night we were there.
Great Indian food. The chicken tikka kabab was amazing!
It was great wished it had sitar thats all, food n service was very good along with portions
I took my wife here for a valentines day dinner since she loves Indian food so much. I on the other hand had reservations. I looked over the menu ahead of time and saw some items I liked. I ordered the roasted duck and she the lamb. I just dove in and tried everything that was on the table. I was impressed as the duck was not fatty and reminded me of a pork loin. Weird thing is I havent had pork in over 30 years. The lamb came out like giant lamb pops and were seasoned to perfection. All in all I recommend this place and will be making a return visit soon.
Always great food and a very good wine list.
Not your usual Fare! Very fresh takes on Traditional indian dishes. The weekend buffet is not to be missed! Large restaurant with plenty of seating, nice modern decor. Worth going; good value
We haven't been for Indian food for several years and tried Thalia after the Best of CT magazine came out naming it #1 in CT. It was excellent, the waiter was very helpful, explaining various dishes, and making my wife's entree slightly less hot. Nice wines by the glass and beer list. All around enjoyable.
Took a work party of 6 out to dinner to celebrate the new year.
The restaurant comfortably accommodated us and provided very tasty high quality food, great cocktails and attentive but not smothering service.
Will definitely be coming back.
