About
Terra has received a Michelin Star since the first award in 2007 and each year since then. Hiro Sone received the James Beard Award for Best Chef California in 2003 and Terra received James Beard Award for Outstanding Service-2008.
Outstanding evening. Sorry they are closing...we had a lovely dinner on our 44 wedding anniversary.
First time at Terra. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. What a fabulous place! From the crudo to the dessert, everything was exquisite. I think my favorite course was the chawanmushi - a silky custard with lobster and shrimp. We're foodies, and a bit particular, but my daughter said this was probably the best meal she'd had in five years, and I tend to agree. Too, I had expected the venue to be a bit pretentious, but that wasn't the case at all. Wonderful friendly service, attentive but not overbearing. All-round super.
Highly recommended!
Amazing food and service. So happy we found this on our recent trip to Napa!
Fantastic food great service never a disappointment will definitely be back.
Wonderful food and location
Excellent food. Excellent portions. Excellent Service.
We enjoyed this place. It is a choice of 4-6 course tastings. Japanese custard was so so but black cod and octopus delicious. It is expensive too. Only about 10 or so tables so quaint.
Top notch cuisine. Perfect from first course to fifth. Best described as culinary magnificence!!!
Food was not as good as expected. Restaurant was cute, but I’d try others in the area.
A wonderful evening and memorable food and ambiance. Every dish was beautifully prepared and presented. On the level of five star restaurants in NY and SF. Though on the expensive side, I feel it was a good value - I have paid more and had a lesser experience elsewhere
This restaurant deserves all the kudos it gets. The friendly expert service is only surpassed by the food itself. Karen our waitress and Craig the sommelier helped us to enjoy an exquisite culinary experience.
Weekend away with my husband
Terra has always been a great place to go for a special occasion.
This occasion was a double birthday. The food was great. The preparation was very
sophisticated. Always delightful. The only odd thing was a $2.50 :UP charge on the bill.
The cocktails were around $11.50 each. The drinks were mixed and served up. When
asked for an explanation the wait person went into a long winded explanation about
more alcohol being used for an up drink and hence the charge. My response is that most
cocktails at bars are about $14. That would have covered the odd charge and with the dinner
costing $300 for two with tax and tip the little charges would be covered and not be annoying.
Beautiful meal at Terra. We are locals and this was our first time here. Service was impeccable and we loved Chef's take on fresh, local ingredients. Will definitely return.
Always enjoy the creative menu, great food and service!
The service was impeccable. Water was constantly refilled and food arrival was perfectly timed. Our waitress was funny, knowledgeable, and even helped us take a few photos. The food itself was interesting and beautifully presented. Taste-wise, I think maybe a bit on the salty side, but the flavors were wonderful. My favorite was the black cod and the pork shoulder. The Chawanmushi was very unique, super light... I loved it, but it might not be for everyone. For dessert, the apple tart (forget the actual name) was amazing. All in all a wonderful experience at Terra.
This was our second visit. Terra offers a fine dining "tasting" experience without the course overload we have encountered at top end restaurants with long tasting menus. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive and provided excellent suggestions on the different dishes and which wines to have with them. Since we had a long drive ahead of us, we split 3 different wines by the glass and the wait staff split the "glass" between two glasses.
The fois gras was incredibly good as was the mushroom rissoto.
We celebrated our dual anniversaries with the 5 course tasting menu. Each course was delicious, from the lighter to the more robust dishes the Umami was second to none. None of us had a bad course. The service and wine sommelier was professional, informative and warm. We're looking forward to our next meal in the restaurant OR the bar.
We last visited Terra a number of years ago and had a very nice meal. Tis time? HORRIBLE!! My wife & I were left the entire meal looking a two (2) adjoining table with sloppy dirty table linens & napkins. Where was the maitre d'? Where were the wait staff? WHERE WAS THE OWNER??
We will NEVER go back. We made a special trip here - one hour drive one-way from our hotel. Extremely disappointed.
We have never eaten here before, but so glad we did. The food, the service the evening was perfect. The choices for the set meal were so inviting and so delicious it made for just a great dinner. Our waitress was so nice and so attentive that she just added to the experience. A little on the pricey side but so worth it for a special evening.
Some of our meal was spectacular. The foie starter with squash & blueberries was amazing, as good as anything we've had at La Folie/SF. Dessert was a deliciously boozy chocolate bourbon ice cream. Sadly, all the rest had flaws. Lobster tortellini: thick dough, thin sauce with no depth. Black cod: not really fresh, shiso broth salty. Strip steak full of gristle. Octopus starter: salty salty salty. Scallops & Abalone: good but tiny portion of 1 very small scallop (definitely not plural!) and abalone buried under butter sauce. Dining room is beautiful, service is excellent....but we certainly did not get a consistently excellent meal that deserves Terra's one Michelin star nor Bauer's inclusion in his Top 100 for 2017. Very disappointed; we had better/more consistent meals on this trip from Auberge and Gatehouse.
Always a favorite of ours, Hiro’s food is hard to beat. We had the 4 course tasting menu and everything was perfectly prepared, artfully presented and so satisfying. The dining room is intimate yet spacious - a wonderful room for good conversation. We keep coming back and are never disappointed!
Terra has consistently been at the top of our list for Bay Area creative and finely executed cuisine. The service and quiet ambience is equally top notch. They handle corkage wines with grace, and the corkage fee of $25 is extremely reasonable for a restaurant of this calibre. A standout amongst superb dishes is the Chawan Mushi, a transcendent savory flan. A dinner at Terra is well worth hours of driving.
Michelin one star and deserved. A gem on the Napa Valley. Had cold pasta with caviar, lobster dish and scallops. To die for. Small plates and wonderful.
Wonderful meal and service! It had been 12 years since our last visit, and it was even better! There's not too many things in life that get better with age. Wonderful tasting menu. The cod dish that has been on the menu for 30 years...there's a reason it's still on the menu after 30 years. Just wonderful.
Absolutely amazing and delicious! We took our friends here as their wedding gift and it did not disappoint!
Excellent 20 item tasting menu with choice of 4, 5, or 6 plates. Each one quite unique, including lobster ravioli, scallops, duck risotto, etc. 5 was very filling. Attentive service in an elegant setting. Pricey, but you knew that.
This was a return visit to Terra after a few years away from the Napa Valley. Everything was perfect as usual. The service is attentive but non-intrusive. The sections on the fixed price menu are all delicious. Our favorites were the lobster ravioli, black cod, duck rice, crude, and chocolate dessert. One of my favorite restaurants of all time.
Service was exceptional. The server was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly without being intrusive. The food was outstanding, innovative and perfectly prepared. Chef Hiro stopped by our table. We were so delighted to meet him. My fiancee, who is also a chef, is a big fan, and Chef Hiro's recipes have been an inspiration for some of my fiancee's dishes that he creates for his own menu at the restaurant we work at. The ambiance was inviting and romantic. The lighting was perfect. It was hard to get internet service to call for a Lyft ride, but a server called for a taxi so we could get back to our hotel. Note: the taxi service was very expensive compared to a Lyft ride. This was our favorite meal during our trip to San Francisco and Napa.
The menu can be put together as you like, you have a choice of about 15 cold/hot dishes and 5 desserts. You could choose one sweets! The fusion kitchen Asian/American is great. A great location to go!
Small, intimate setting so reservation is essential. All dishes are artfully presented, and the flavor profiles were delicate with Japanese influence. Service was attentive. Indeed a hidden gem in St. Helena
Everything is wonderful at Terra. Food, wine, friendly service, setting value. Spectacular restaurant.
The food was very good, but the portions are small. If you show up hungry you may not be satisfied. However the dishes were distinct and well cooked.
Early NYE dinner with my wife, mother and 9 month infant boy. We chose 8:30 reservation as we expected our infant son to sleeep throughout dinner which he did. The only thing that made him stir was the very vocal server of the table behind us. In a stone walled room she MUST learn to turn down her volume.
Our server Karen was an experienced pro. Very helpful and well versed in a menu that any foodie could love.... which we are not. A tasting style menu was a first for my wife and I. Each of us chose the four course option @$89pp. Terra also offers a five and six course option as well. My wife and I chose three food items and dessert. My mother chose the cheese selection for her dessert. Their signature Black Cod lived up to its long lasting and well deserved reputation. The pork shoulder doesn't sound exciting on paper but melts in your mouth.... a must have. All three of us started with the Loberster Tortelloni with Shrimp Dumpling... simply delicious. Amazing to say from two card carrying non-seafood eaters.
Be sure to bring to bring an elite wine with you. If anything could be improved, it would be their wine list. Fortunately, we well prepared in that area.
Dec 29 was quiet and peaceful with the exception of the random quote loud neighboring server.
Definitely, a repeat visit is on our must do list.
Thank you Terra Staff!
Phenomenal experience. Food and service were both excellent.
We celebrated my friend's birthday in great fashion. Excellent cuisine, awesome service, beautiful ambiance. I've dined here many time but it was my friend's first time and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. We'll be back!
Terra is a restaurant to be experienced. This is not casual dining.
With each course, you understand that you are in the presence of chef excellence. Each course is complex and truly delicious. You go to Terra to savor some of the best dishes you will ever taste.
The wait staff is very knowledgeable and that knowledge adds to the experience. Knowing how each dish was prepared by the chef gave us a true appreciation of everything we were presented with.
Terra is a very special place. If you appreciate culinary excellence, you must experience Terra.
The black cod was my favorite dish, followed by the lobster tortellini and the chawanmushi.
Incredible. A true gem in Napa Valley!
