The Japanese word ten can mean "heaven", "above" or "celebration" and the dining experience at TEN modern Japanese restaurant is all of these things.
TEN approaches traditional Japanese dishes as if they were works of modern art. The superior ingredients are the building blocks of inspiration and the plates are crafted to please both the palate and the eye. Superior products are used and the seafood arrives daily from fishing auctions in Japan and Hawaii. Beyond the incredibly fresh sushi, the menu features a variety of hot and cold ala carte items and offers choices for vegetarians as well as non-seafood eaters.
Ten also features an extensive wine list, and specialty cocktails using unique ingredients such as the "Ten" which is comprised of sake, vodka and aloe juice.

Ten Ratings and Reviews
We were there for our anniversary, and I'd left a note in advance on the reservation remarks via OpenTable to write 'happy anniversary' on the dessert that I was going to order during my meal to surprise my fiancée. Unfortunately, there was no note on the cake I ordered, nor did our server wish us 'happy anniversary', nor did they do anything special. When I asked our waiter about my request while my fiancee was in the ladies, he said he saw the remark but the plate wasn't big enough to write a note....... and eventually still did nothing for service recovery. The restaurant could honestly have given me a call if they couldn't do it, or work with each other to make it a special moment for us, but they failed. While the food was decent, we were disappointed.
We went for dinner on our anniversary. The hostess staff was fantastic. They quickly had us seated and even gave us an option of table or both. The food was delicious and well presented. However our waiter was less then stellar. We asked for the saki menu to order a bottle with our dinner and he didn’t show up to take the order till we were almost done with our food. He was apologetic but that didn’t change his behavior. We waited on everything. Also we shared with staff when making the reservation that it was our anniversary and there was no mention of it. That isn’t a make or break for us but it’s always a nice touch of a restaurant even mentions it.
Ten is one of our favorite restaurants; and we are foodies who have eaten all over the world. The quality and presentation of the food is exceptional. The staff are professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the food, and the sake selection. We often take out of town guests to Ten to show off the best of C'Ville.
Second great meal and experience. Hard to beat our first but it equaled or exceeded our excellent first meal as we tried a few new items and had a great server. Highly recommend for creative, unique and fresh sushi offerings in a modern contemporary but lively environment.
We have always enjoyed Ten, and were looking forward to dining outside on a lovely evening -- so were surprised when we arrived and discovered that they no longer have an outdoor dining option (for which I would have previously rated them at 5 stars for Ambiance). That's an unfortunate development, and will be a consideration for us in the future. That stated -- the food was great, as usual, as was the service.
Love the cosmopolitan atmosphere. Noise level is fine which is important to me. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful and didn't mind explaining the interesting menus and steering me away from some food I was not willing to try. Never boring here! Great cocktails.
Heard great things about Ten and wasn't disappointed. The drink menu was fun and creative. The ginger Manhattan was a nice variation on the old classic. The calamari appetizer was very tasty and the yellowtail was terrific. We had the Wagyu beef roll as well as a tuna roll and salmon roll. All were outstanding. The vibe at Ten was really great and fun. Finally, our waitress was a gem. Super friendly, helpful and professional. Great food, lots of fun. We'll be back.
I recently returned from Japan with a whole new appreciation for sushi, especially good sushi. So my expectations with regards to sushi is and will be very high from now on. The sushi at Ten is just ok. The fish is good, the rice is very under seasoned and hard. Menu was limited with regards to hot food due to restaurant week. Chose not to get seaweed salad since it's not made in house.
Over all I would expect more from a higher end restaurant and the price.
Food and selection is solid. Especially good saki selection. Still think that it's overpriced for what you're getting. Good sized edamame portion. Coating on the tofu app can get mushy but still tasty. Sushi/sashimi mix was good. Wouldn't have turned down some miso soup.
This is a dilemma. The food at Ten is excellent. The problem is that the service is pretty bad. We had booked a table days in advance, but ended up in a corner by the kitchen. When we asked to move the hostess was nasty and only reluctantly agreed to change tables.
The decorations are truly depressing. A yuck green.
Overall, while the food is good it is not good enough to compensate for the negatives.
