Taverna Banfi Ratings and Reviews
We found Taverna Banfi bringing a unique fine dining experience to a discerning market of Cornell School of Hotel Administration and its community of alumni, and the Ithaca area. The great service included staff with an intimate knowledge of the food and, in our experience, seafood and pasta dishes prepared perfectly. The food and service constitute a wonderful evening's main event.
My 12 y.o. son has Celiac and our waitress, as well as the kitchen staff, were spectacular at helping us through the usual questions about cross-contamination, etc. Overall the experience was spectacular, with the kind and helpful waitress being a highlight equal to the amazing food.
Upscale restaurant on the second floor of the Statler Hotel on the Cornell University campus. Served by students in the Cornell Hospitality program as host, server. Food was excellent. Side dishes are shareable size. Comfortable, quiet environment. Can accommodate larger groups in separate room.
Food was very good. Best dining in Ithaca, no question. However, the service is less than optimal and really needs to be improved. First, we had to wait for the valet for 5 mins inside then hotel. The front desk staff saw us, but did not come over to greet us as we waited for someone at the valet counter to appear. Second, the waitress did a very poor job all night. She neglected to take our drink order, and she had to be asked to bring us refills on our water. Also, despite being one of only 4 dining parties that night, the hostess sat a loud group of college students right next to our table half way through our meal. The entire restaurant is open so why crowd a loud party to a couple that is quietly trying to enjoy their meal. All in all, great food and portions for the price but the service really needs to step up for us to return.
Do you miss Brunch and are trying to find where to have brunch in the Finger Lakes? This is your answer. Exquisitely prepared dishes using sustainable agriculture from Cornell's plantations and local growers. Chef prepared dishes all made from scratch. Roasted coffee specially formulated for Cornell by Gimme Coffee. Wait staff are largely from Cornell's school of hospitality students; thus, highly motivated staff that are "into" their jobs as they are looking to make this a career. Extremely comfortable seating and beautiful atmosphere.
There is nothing to not love about this outstanding Brunch.
Once again Taverna Banfi excelled. The food was well presented and deliciious. Each of the four of us enjoyed our menu choices. The cocktails and wine were superb, the service from Gregory was exceptional. We are never disappointed when we go here to enjoy a meal.
We went to Taverna Banfi for brunch. I could not find a description of their brunch on the website but decided to take a chance given a couple of comments. It was really good food, great variety, and a dessert table with everything and more. The price was also very reasonable and included juice and coffee. We will definitely go again!
Walter Salas attention to details was superb last night, impressively how he was talkative without interrupting and courteous with all his comments and suggestions with the food.
The "GRILLED CORN TORTELLONI AND LOBSTER" excellent, it will go on my list for favorite dishes to recommend and try again...it was awesome!!. Many thanks, MP
Brought in a potential client from out of town. Was happy to have such an excellent sit-down option on campus. Two of us had the buffet which is always a good choice. Our client had the avocado sandwich that she described as "one of the best" she's ever had.
We were at Cornell to drop off my daughter who's joining this year.
I was looking for a place where we could have a nice dinner before we said our good byes and headed back to singapore. A friend recommended Taverna Banfi at the Statler Hotel.
We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and the food at Banfi . We had a young lady who was in her final year at Cornell looking after us and it was so nice for my daughter to get tips on life on Cornell from her. The food was amazingly tasty and importantly we had a lot of choices for my wife and daughters who are vegetarian.
Overall, while it is on the pricey side, I believe that this is certainly one of the top choices for celebration of a special occasion in Cornell.
Good but not great food for the price. Worth going if you are looking for a good meal and are staying at the Statler Hotel or are looking for a good meal and are on the Cornell campus.
We were asked to participate in a survey research project regarding listing calories on the menu. It was interesting to discuss the research with the professor who is actually doing the study. He came by after we completed the survey and discussed the purpose of the research. That is a unique experience that would only happen at a restaurant in an academic environment like Cornell.
This review is more for the breakfast, which was okay. We had the buffet, which really needed an omelet station. The oatmeal was delicious and in high demand. They had good waffles and a crepe station, but not enough food options for the buffet price. We had dinner the night before which we thoroughly enjoyed. The service was slow but nonetheless the student staff was attentive and very helpful. We had homemade mozzarella with prosciutto as a starter that was amazing! Better ingredients and food for dinner which I would highly recommend. Overall a lovely place to eat, especially convenient if you are staying at The Statler hotel.
