Tavern at Bown Crossing
Good food and service. However, the air conditioning was broken on half of the restaurant, we had a reservation, but were not given the option to wait for an “air conditioned” table, we were not even told it was out, we overheard the bartender telling other guests. It wasn’t the best experience we’ve had at this location. If we had been notified ahead of time, we could have made more comfortable plans.
The AC was marginal and it was exceedingly hot. For the quality, meals were overpriced. The salmon was okay, but the halibut was over cooked and salty. The Owyhee Tavern is better quality and ambience.
We had a party of 8 and made a reservation. The place was perfect! Delicious food and happy friendly service. Their happy hour was great although it did seem to take an extra long time to get our food. Will definitely go again, though!
Had a great dinner to celebrate a birthday. Food and service were great.
The staff were friendly, but the service was slow. My steak was cooked as I asked for it, and my friend liked her fish. The vegetables were nicely done. Our waitress was very nice, but seemed to be rushed. Appetizer course didn't take too long, but salads lagged, and main course was even slower. We had to ask for bread twice. My friend's steak was extremely undercooked, as was my husband's to a lesser extent. He even wondered whether the steaks were frozen, as they were well cooked on exterior but very rare in the middle. My husband's baked potato was cold; the butter had not even melted. We might have sent the steaks and baked potato back to the kitchen for further cooking, but service was so slow we ran out of time; we had to pick up tickets at Shakespeare Festival by specific time. We probably would have ordered dessert (and at least taken it to go) but there was no time. There were definitely some very nice aspects of our meal, but a few too many missteps to recommend to a friend.
My salmon was barely warm, and lacked the grilled crust I have come to expect at the Tavern. The meat was very soft and lacked flavor. The steamed vegetables that come with the salmon consisted of 3 green beans 2 asparagus and a few slivers if carrots. The loaded baked potato was not warm enough to melt the butter. The finish on the table top was so softened it was sticky and our wine glasses stuck to the table.
The last time I ate here, our waitress asked my friends and I to finish and leave because there were other customers coming in a few minutes.
Both the quality of the food and the service has diminished over the last couple of years. I have not eaten at their downtown location, perhaps the owners cannot maintain two quality restaurants.
Service was good food was fair...salad was average, lamb was to be cooked medium rare two chops were medium and two were rare. Vegetables were over cooked and yam was discolored on top and hard as a rock until you dug into center. Ok for a cocktail but I’d think twice before dinning at this place.
Six of us had a delicious lunch yesterday with Bailey as our server. She is very competent, friendly, and attentive without getting in the way of conversation. Each of us had something different and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My only criticism is how close this corner booth is to the table for four next to it.
The Tavern is always wonderful!!! It is one of our favorite restaurants!!!!
We took my father-in-law here for dinner while he was visiting and they were very nice about accommodating our request to sit on the patio. The menu consists of typical Northwest contemporary American fare. I had the Sirloin Salad which was good but nothing to write home about, especially for $14.
I would come back for a drink and apps sometime but in general it's pretty expensive for pretty average food.
Good food , service by Kelly was great, could have been a touch cooler temperature-wise.
The rooftop patio was beautiful and the food was great
Great service and food as always. Best sushi in Boise.
The service was good. Good selections. Pricing ok. Beer/Wine options ok. Nice seating both inside and outside. The food was good with a nice presentation. I was pleasantly surprised.
2nd time now I have stated this. The pot roast nachos need more than a few pieces of meat. I don't want to pay for a big plate of chips and cheese.
Great food and great service! We had sushi for an appetizer and all ordered different entrees. Two types of fish and an amazing chicken dish.
I haven’t been there in awhile and my friend and I were disappointed with the food. I had the salmon entree and my friend had the shrimp and chicken scampi. Her chicken looked and tasted inedible and it was swimming in oil. My salmon was also too oily. The baked potatoes were good but for $80 with tip I expect more. Ambiance and service are very nice.
Great evening, awesome burgers. Good wine selection, good cocktails.
A fun evening, with a great waitress.
I love the Tavern and the girls are lovely and helpful......But, it seems things have changed. My husband and I used to ALWAYS get the booth we wanted, we ALWAYS got wonderful service.....but last Sunday, my daughter took me for brunch using the ONLY reservation that we could get at 2:15 and we were only allowed 8 items on the menu. Not cool. We had to go nextdoor to Flatbread. And the last 3 times that I've gone, they have seated me at high tables. I don't look or act disabled, but I am. I must have a booth. I'm sorry but I am an advocate for disabilities.
If you’d like sushi with the rest of your table order it a half hour before everyone else. Then, you may get to eat with everyone else. I sat and watched the entire table of 5 finish their meals before my roll even hit the table.
On top of that there’s a contest to anyone who can actually find any fish in the mass of rice they bury it in.
First time, last time. Shame.
Great food as always. Sushi, halibut special, BBQ bacon cheeseburger, and bone-in pork loin were devoured by our group of 5. Keep up the exceptional work!
Always a favorite!
The sushi was awful rice was old and warm not cold, the waitress was acted totally put out we were there, our food took for ever and it was my husbands birthday so the entire experience was a huge disappointment. I was shocked when I got my bill way to much for what we got especially the special which the waitress didn't bother to tell us the price. This was our second time there we were looking forward to it, because the first time was great but we will not go back or recommend to anyone we know. :(
This was our first visit to the Tavern at Bown Crossing. We were seated in the bar at a little high table very close to the tables on each side. We could hear their conversations but not our own. What I was disappointed in was that we were not given a choice between being seated in the bar or in the other room with tables. As we hadn't been to this restaurant before we were unaware until we walked out that there was a whole other room with normal tables and space in between them. Had we known that before we sat down we would have requested that room. But the hostess did not ask us, she just directed us to the table we ate at. By the way, we also do not drink so we do not like to sit in "bar" situations to eat.
I love the Tavern! I am there twice a month or more. My only complaint would be that when I make a reservation and ask for a booth, there is a reason. I always got a booth until recently. I have RA and psoriatic spondylitis and it is difficult for me to not be able to stretch out my left leg, etc. If I am not in a booth. I will have to go elsewhere if they refuse to accommodate me, and It's my favorite restaurant.
For my wife’s birthday. The total experience was very good. Our server was very nice but it was obvious that no one trained her how to serve wine. Fortunately we are not wine snobs and took matters into our own hands. We live nearby and want you to be successful.
Sunday brunch... great selection and the food is great.
We went for my wife’s birthday. It was noisy, which we don’t mind except for the fact that they sat us at a pub table in the middle of the bar area, so that made it feel very chaotic. Drinks were great. The cheese plate was ok, the items on it didn’t seem to go together, it felt like something was missing. Dinner was very good, steak perfectly cooked and the the price point would be fine except that the atmosphere didn’t fit. I certainly wouldn’t expect to pay what I did for dinner at a sports bar, which is what it felt like when we were there.
One member of our group is a vegetarian, and didn’t realize the salad she ordered came with bacon bits.
Our server took it away and was back in a few minutes with a replacement, minus bacon bits. This was a going away lunch for a co worker; we were able to share and reminisce and become a little emotional :-( without feeling like we were on stage.
Great food, atmosphere and ambience!
Holly was such an outstanding waitress and made our anniversary dinner wonderful!
The food was good. Noise level made it hard to hear. Wait staff was surly.
First time there. It is on the other side of town, but we wanted to try it out. It was a busy and rather noisy place, full of energy. Service was very good, helpful and polite. If I were rating the food on the basis of my wife’s salmon, I would have given it 5 stars. But I ordered the lamb, which was quite disappointing; slightly undercooked, and totally lacking flavor. (Note: I often order lamb when we dine out, since I [usually] love it and my wife does not). I would have rated the lamb maybe 2 stars on a good day. But overall, everything else was fine. I’d come back but order something different.
Great service and food. From sushi to bone in ribeye, it was all wonderful. Wine list was expansive
The food was decent, although a vegetarian friendly place it is not. The service was horrendous from start to finish. First, our server never told us about specials - we only overheard the table next to us receive the list after we ordered. Next, she brought out my kids' dinner before everyone else's without even asking - if she had, I would have said no. Our server disappeared for a good portion of the time, never even asking about the meal. We, against better judgement, ordered the berry cobbler for dessert. After waiting for close to 30 min, it didn't arrive. We had another server track down our server and asked that she cancel the dessert and bring the bill. She then told us that the desserts are made from scratch, so take time. We couldn't wait longer and asked again for the bill. She brought it and we provided a gift card and credit card for payment. She brought the bill back, but never took the gift card amount off. We sent it back for correction, never receiving an apology. The server brought back the correct receipt and insisted we take the cobbler to go. Upon opening it at home, we found it to be a box of Costco mixed berries with brown sugar on top - it wasn't even warm - that's what a from scratch, takes 30+ min to prepare dessert looks like here. We'll never go back.
Very slow to get seated and get our food. The French dip was a little sad - I wish I could attach the picture- all bread and not a lot of meat.
Had a good meal but we were seated in the bar which I did not expect since we had reservations. The bar seating was cramped and noisy not what I wanted or expected.
Usually the Tavern at Bown Crossing has fairly good food and great service. This particular evening the sushi was old, brown, and unappealing. The waiter was terrible - purposely terrible. He ignored us and when he did come over didn't even look at us.
We have been to the Tavern several times over the last 18 months since moving to Boise and have been less and less delighted each time. The service is ok. One of our steaks was undercooked and sending it back was a little clunky because the servers are just a little unsophisticated. The benches in both the bar and the front area are worn and quite uncomfortable. It is a shame because we love the location and want to want to dine here. It just isn’t great compared to all the other options in Boise.
We were told our table had been given to someone else when we arrived so we got sat in the bar area which was noisy. We could have waited 20-30 more minutes for a booth. The birthday girl is sensitive to noise, hence the reservation for a table on open table and not open seating in a bar area. I tried to make a reservation as to avoid bar seating but it didn't work out unfortunately. We had a great server in the bar and the food was excellent so overall it was decent!
Always a great time at The Tavern
