Opened in June 1922, The Tam O'Shanter boasts a rich, storied history and warm, inviting atmosphere. We’re proud to be in our 10th decade of continuous service. We originally considered it a quiet pastoral road stop, since Los Feliz Boulevard was just an unpaved country lane traversed by rabbits and rabbit hunters, in that order.
Everything changed when Walt Disney and his animators, set designers, and crews began trekking out between takes for a bite and a refreshment. So often, in fact, that the Tam was once dubbed “The Studio Commissary.”

The food was good, but the service was absent. Forgot my husband drink, he received it mid meal and a refill on ice tea took just as long. Checked on us maybe once and price tag was right at $200 for 2 people. Had dinner in Capitola last week. Food was superb and the service was exemplary, a Lawrys restaurant should be comparable and came No Where Near! 6 for dinner including appetizers, steak and seafood dinners and all under $400. Tam O’Shanter was sadly mediocre and over priced.

Long time member and years of dining at Tam O Shanter. Reserved table for Father’s Day at 8:30pm. Family sat down and was instantly told they ran out of prime rib. At first I thought the server was going to say “Just kidding” but that didn’t happen. Manager came by to apologize. We ended up leaving to eat somewhere else. First time this has happened in all my years dining with the ram o shanter chain.

Perhaps due to the busy Father’s Day crowd, our main entrees took 45 minutes or longer to come out. Also, my daughter’s cut of prime rib was so salty, she could not eat it. The restaurant accommodated her and provided a replacement.

The hostess was not welcoming. She was dismissive and non-communicative. We waited over 30 minutes past our reservation time despite her insisting we would be seated closer to our appointed time.
