Wonderful old place. Beautifully appointed wonderful history and long time employees that I know all about it and are willing to share. Lovely meal in beautiful surroundings!
The Scottish Salmon and quinoa was delicious. My son had prime rib medium rare and loved it!
This place is fun! Great food and ambiance with a great history. I look forward to visiting when I'm in town.
Went there for my wife’s birthday. We had a wonderful time!
Always exceptional food and service. Xavier handled our party of 13 with accuracy, humor and finesse.
We had dinner Saturday evening at this classic LA restaurant. I had requested a quiet corner and that’s what we got. Our server was lovely and most attentive. Food was exactly as ordered and arrived promptly. We lingered over drinks, dinner and dessert, never feeling rushed. No surprises, cozy, warm and delicious!
The evening was similar to other times...good service, delicious dining BUT the negative part of the evening was the party of 15 with 7 screaming kids. In the future I, as a Lawry's Prime member, will ask to be seated in a QUIET area of the restaurant.
Went there for dinner..
Used to go there for the sandwich and. But they no longer served the prime rib. So we had the dinner. Both ordered prime rib. Wife sent hers back foaoth piece with the au juice. The gravy was too salty.
Good not great, overprice. Place was almost empty.
Unfortunately, service was terrible.
We had reservations so we were seated right away. It was very noisy. I could hear conversations around me, some customers spoke very loud, which I really did not care for. The great thing about the dinner was Elise, our server, was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and courteous. The food is very good and very much similar to Lawry's on La Cienega, Beverly Hills. I miss the table side carving which I understand since the place does not have enough space for the carving cart to go around.
Started with nobody at reception desk at 7:30 on Friday. Then a no smile ushering to our reserved table. Food was very good but service was impersonal and rushed, although somewhat friendly. Not 4 star, more like Denny's.
We always enjoy eating at the Tam. Good food, great unique ambiance....
Probably wouldn’t recommend to anyone any more.
We’ve been going there since 1974. VIP members since 2004.
After or slightly before Richard Sr ‘s. passing in 2015, we thought the quality had started to change. And they changed portions of the menu slightly. One thing is NO MORE BAKED POTATOES! Their twice baked replacement is bad.
We hadn’t been there for about 3 months. So, we went there two nights ago & ordered our usual Tam cut, cooked medium, that we share. It came out rare minus, plus ONLY a 1/2” thick! They used to serve it 3/4”+ thick. So they offered to correct it. Figuring we’d get a new piece, but they brought back the same piece that they just cooked a little longer, or so we thought. It looked more medium on the top side, until we turned it over & found about 3/4 of it was STILL rare minus. It reminded us & tasted more like a steak, instead of prime rib, at least the small portion (4 bites between us) we were able to eat.
The manager did apologize & took it off our bill, which was the nice & right thing to do. Didn’t want to take a 3rd chance on another lousy piece of meat. So previously, we ate an appetizer, a wedge salad, and the creamed spinach that came with the meal. Those were fine.
So the last 4 or 5 times we’ve been there, have not been up to their previous standards, that Richard Sr. established.
Not sure when or if we’ll go back, after all these years. There’s too much better quality competition out there for only about 20% more in price!
The Tam is one of our favorite restaurants. We love the food and ambiance.
Always great to spend time at the Tam. We had a wonderful time visiting with friends and celebrating a birthday.
This is the first time trying lunch on a Sunday, and it was pleasant not having to deal with crowds or reservations. The food is brunch type, but you can always have their famous prime rib cuts, or prime rib sandwiches. A very relaxing lunch on this Labor Day Eve and triple points at that, if you're a Lawry's card holder.
My husband and I have been going to Tam O'Shanter for almost 30+ years. The quality and service seemed to be going downhill. Wish they pay more attention to both. We love the atmosphere and would like to go back if the server is more personal
This is one restaurant where you can hear yourself and your friends. No music in the background except for that coming from the lounge. Service is great as is the quality of the food. Portions are ample! We will definitely return.
The menu used to have creative and tasty dishes listed but it has changed over the past few years with the entrees now both limited and predictable. There are no special sauces to excite your taste buds. The prime rib is fatty.
The meal cost is high considering that a salad is not included with your entree. The value of what you are getting for what you are paying is low.
The saving grace of this restaurant is the warm and comfortable ambiance and a staff that provides very attentive service, always with a smile.
It's a classic restaurant with historical value for 90+ years. There's something for everyone. A full bar and an English country vibe that sends you back to olden times. The food is excellent and not "fusion" anything but stands on its own unapologetically as such. I've been coming here for almost 60 years for one thing or another (I don't live nearby, so when I am in town, it's like an old familiar friend). Good job Lawry's.
Great dinner at the Tam! Had the Scotch Rarebit and the Tam burger- both were delish! Fun atmosphere.
Celebrated 30th wedding anniversary and wanted a meal that was befitting the occasion. Tam O'Shanter was our choice. I have been coming to this restaurant for 50 years and it still has some of the best Prime Rib dinners in Los Angeles. They are consistent and the service is attentive but not overbearing. Not just dinner but a dining experience.
Great dinner celebration
We had an early dinner so we were able to sit down at a table in of the rooms that was almost empty. This led to great ambiance that was helped by excellent service from all. The food was wonderful as always.
The cold shrimp came with the shells on. They were hard to remove.
The best restaurant em Los Feliz! The place is pretty and the food is amazing
This has been a favorite venue for us on our anniversaries. Food is always unquestionably great, but is definitely a special occasion restaurant.
An old time favorite of ours with a nice atmosphere. The prime rib is their specialty, but I like the salmon and the fish and chips for dinner. They have an excellent chocolate souffle for dessert.
As usual the Tam came through with a great meal and great service. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Tam and really enjoyed the food, ambiance, and the service. Sarah, our server, was absolutely great. She did everything she could to make our meal a memorable one. I highly recommend dinner at this wonderful gem of a restaurant!
Delicious prime rib!
Yes food and value were great. Service too. We will definitely come again
It's a really fun restaurant with lots of Disney history, reminiscent of an old New England style pub. My only reason for rating it lower than 5 is that my stomach bothered me quite a bit the next morning, and I think it might have been the Yorkshire pudding dish I ordered. Everything else was great.
Prime rib seemed to be leftover from lunch, was full of fat, and nearly cold. Mash potatoes were hot and fresh. All else simply bad.
We love Tam's. We've been VIP members for years. We prefer Tam's to Lawry's because we don't really care for prime rib and Tam's offers different alternatives. Although we love Tam's, it's disappointing to see the quantity of food shrink in size. I usually get the Toad in a Hole. It was SO small this time that my eyes widened, mouth dropped, and I commented to my wife about it. I've seen the size shrink over the years, but this was about half the size of the Toad I got just weeks ago. Makes me wonder if we want to continue going to this restaurant. Maybe I should start liking prime rib! Or not!
Always great. The food, the ambience, everything. Everyone who works there are always friendly, warm, courteous and professional.
I NEVER take the time to write a review and if unhappy i would just keep to myself. This place was the exception. Fora place touted to be "Best Prime Rib In L.A. it was to say it kindly a huge disappointment. For starters, for at Saturday night most of the tables were empty which told me right away I had made a mistake. (I tried to make my last minute reservation through Open Table first at TAO, then Arroyo Chop house and settled for this place due to availability. My fault there. Ambiance? I thought i was at Knott's Berry Farm with staff dressed up in pretty silly farm girl costumes. Service was just fair at best. Food was the all -time worst. Ordered the supposed House specialty Prime Rib., When it finally came it was completely tasteless. I NEVER at salt but tried adding seasoning 5x to pull some sort of taste out of the meat which was in no way a prime cut of beef. The corn was out of a can and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were out of a box. Nothing tasted BAD; it simply had no taste. Would best compare to a cafeteria or truck stop. I shouldn't have even paid the $200.00 bill for two but i have never argued a check and i am too old to start doing that. Not wanting to give up I tried their hot fudge sundae since it is hard to mess that up. Tasted like ice cream from a vending machine. Honestly worst restaruant meal ever.
It's an iconic restaurant that's been around for decades. The service was excellent and the food arrived very fast. It was fun to visit, but I wouldn't really go back for the food. There are so many wonderful choices of restaurants in LA. I would go here again for the fun of seeing the decor. The food was OK, but I don't think it's changed for as long as they've been open. It was kind of dated and bland. The prime rib was good, but definitely not the best. Again, not really any seasoning to it. Mashed potatoes and gravy were very plain -- kind of like what you'd get at a family-style chain restaurant. The chocolate souffle was excellent.
