Best sushi spot in Salt Lake City
Takashi truly is a neighborhood gem. Their sushi is clearly the best in Salt Lake.
Great restaurant with unique menu items
I have never been disappointed with my visits to Takashi. Their rolls are always fresh tasting and they have a great mix of flavors. Do always expect a bit of a wait, as everyone else loves them as much as I do. In the event of a wait, there is a martini bar next door to the restaurant and they are happy to come get you from the bar when your table is ready.
The creativity and presentation of the omakase meal was great. Menu prices were surprisingly reasonable for the quality of food. overall an excellent meal.
We enjoyed our evening at Takashi's. Our server could have come around now often but we still had a great evening with great food
I ADORE this place, and would eat there every day if I could.
The best Sushi restaurant in town. Love many of the Specialty Rolls.
Takashi serves the best sushi in Salt Lake. Wthe menu features a good selection of hot and cold items. Portions are adequately sized and the pricing is well aligned with quality. Good selection of daily specials. Excellent drink menu including sakes, beers and wine.
As highly regarded as Takashi is in SLC it was disappointing that a Japanese restaurant would not have much to choose from entree list of items for a person with gluten intolerance and the server was not much helpful.
Ah, finally - great sushi! It's been too long! I started with the seafood hot and sour soup, which was outstanding. I then had the nigri sushi combo and the T&T spicy sushi for my main course. The fish was fresh and tasty. The T&T was definitely spicy (at least the sauce was), and just tasted great. My only complaint is it felt like they rushed us out once we were done the main course - no offer for dessert (not sure if they serve it) or coffee.
John, our server, very gracious and wonderful service. Enjoyed the agedashi tofu, tempura, and sashimi very much. The noodle bowl was fair, a bit overcooked, and broth needed more seasoning; Disappointed the Asian greens were simply broccoli and a few small bits if bok choy. The sushi rolls were good but a bit bland.
I expected more after reading reviews
Takashi has amazing sushi. It's definitely the best I've had in Salt Lake City and comparable to very good sushi in larger cities. The wait staff is also very courteous. I'll definitely return.
I try to go here every time I'm in SLC. Fantastic dining experience with great food.
Takashi is the best sushi restaurant that we've found in Salt Lake City (or Utah, for that matter). It has a large, frequently changing menu featuring many items that you can't find anywhere else in Utah. It is always crowded. Reservations are difficult to get (booking 4-5 days in advance gets you a 5:30 pm seating) and the service is generally good to excellent.
Our most recent visit fell short of previous ones (which had been 5-star visits). Our server was good, but not particularly adept at making reservations about items off the menu or of special note and the specials were a little less creative than usual. Everything was very good, but there were only a couple of stand outs.
Great food. You can get cheaper sushi for sure, but you can't beat the food and ambiance.
by far the very best sushi in salt lake!!!
What a perfect anniversary dinner! We sat at the sushi bar and while talking to the chef, watched him lovingly, precisely craft each sushi dish we ordered. I think I used the word amazing a dozen times during his performance. This was our sixth time at Takashi's and it seems to get better every time!
Fabulous sushi. I've been here quite a few times before and this time I sat at the bar and branched out. I'm so glad I did! The Sunshine Roll is still an old favorite, but now I love the Summit and the Strawberry Fields as well. Best sushi I've ever had, and I'm from Seatte!
Great place to eat, good sushi quality, and good service even when it got significantly busier.
Will eat there again, when i'm next in Salt Lake City.
The off menu specialty rolls were really good!
I would recommend Takashi - now i want to come back again!
The food is fresh, fancy and top notch. Service is great. Tables are a little too close together and thus gets pretty loud.
Takashi is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the country. Unique and delicious food with fish like the Tazmanian Sea Trout- you must try it! The service is usually fantastic and it has a hip atmosphere. It can get packed so get there early. Also try the Panna Cotta dessert- truly amazing.

Maybe our expectations were too high based on all we had heard. Maybe it was just an off night, maybe we just by chance got the pieces of fish that seem like it had already been chewed...had no structure at all. Having had sushi all over --including in Japan, NY, LA, etc....what was served to us March 30th was not true to form authentic sushi. Flavors were good, appetizers even better, but when it came to the specialty rolls the tuna was without the texture it needs to have to make each bite delicious. Also, it appeared that most of the specialty rolls were based on a dare---trying to see how spicy they could make them --and I dont mind spicy at all, though in many this case it didn't make sense given it cloaks the flavor of each roll
My husband and I came here to celebrate a birthday and because we love trying new sushi. We were very pleased with the server (Jason) and his suggestions. The sushi was well cut, formed, and tasted excellent. If we lived closer we would dine here more often.
Literally the best sushi I've ever had in the country and I've probably had sushi at 300+ plus restaurants! There was a line out the door and this place HASN'T EVER been on Food Network or the Travel Channel. Pretty amazing!
Takashi's has some of the best specialty rolls I have ever had. I grew up in southern Florida, lived a few years in San Fransisco, and spent some time in New York. All three place are known for great sushi. Takashis ranks in the top three for me. If you go there do not get there general/standard rolls. You will leave with the feeling you paying too much for nothing special(because you didn't order anything special). You can get those types of rolls(the Philli, the Cali, etc) anywhere and pay less. Where Takashis sets themselves apart is their specialty rolls and entrees. If you don't like to wait, make a reservation, and stop complaining!
This is an excellent restaurant, probably the best for sushi in Salt Lake City. However, after making a reservation for 4 with 3 of us arriving together they said they could not seat us until the other party arrived. We were entertaining clients and had tickets for a game and needed to get in and out fairly quickly. It was a blizzard outside and our 4th party was on trax and on her way. We had to tell them she might not make it so they would seat us and we could start ordering. I understand that they do not want people sitting at the tables and not ordering, however, they might do some inquiry about timing or find out some information before just refusing to seat you until the entire party has arrived. (the purpose for reservations)
Most of the food was quite good; however, the service was a bit slow and the chicken on skewers was tough, tasteless and inedible. Requested a quiet table, but was seated in the middle of the restaurant where the noise level kept increasing as more diners arrived. We specifically came early to enjoy a quiet meal, but had extreme difficulty hearing and the tables were quiet close to each other. Obviously the hostess/manager does not honor requests made through Open Table and was not responsive when we inquired about being seated elsewhere.
The sushi rolls are quite creative and the Saki list, though short, is outstanding, especially if you like it unfiltered. You'll no doubt want to visit Takashi over and over again.
My husband and I really like sushi. The thing is, we want to actually taste the fish when we get it. I was put off by the fact that practically every roll had spicy sauce in them. Do they really think anyone will taste the fish when there are thai chilies in the roll. Their rolls seem to be for people who "want" to say they eat sushi, but don't want to actually taste the fish. That said, their sashimi was fresh and everything else was wonderful. The service was amazing, but the 2 top tables are a little small for people getting a bunch of rolls, it feels very crowded.
A mouth-watering explosion no matter what is ordered on the menu!!!
High quality sushi in an excellent dining experience.
My husband and I went here for his birthday. Some people said this place was expensive but it wasn't for us. We don't drink alcohol and we only ordered sushi and edemame so that is probably why. We ordered one appetizer of edemame & 3 rolls and were full. The sushi rolls aren't as long/large as at most sushi places, but they were delicious. We made a reservation for 5:45 on a Wednesday night (had an hour drive home so needed an early dinner), were seated promptly at a nice table by the window and served efficiently and politely with everything. We recommend the Puff the Magic Dragon Roll, the Spider roll and the Carribean Roll. YUM!
Some of the best sushi I have ever had. And to think I would find it in Salt Lake City!
Teriffic menu, great fresh sashimi ! May be one of top two Japanese restaurants in SLC area, and without doubt the best in the city proper.
Love love love the Strawberry Fields and the Spider rolls. So tasty. I always try to hit Takashi when I'm in SLC from the east coast. On par with NYC sushi. Beats Philly (which has a very vibrant restaurant scene.) Well done Takashi!
Always the best. No one does it like Takashi and his great crew.
In my opinion, Takashi is the premier Sushi Bar in Salt Lake City. There is a great variety of rolls and Takashi's creativity is evident throughout the menu. He often will mix in fruits (lightly) into his creations which brings a unique mixture of taste and texture into the rolls. In particular, he ran a special roll called "You've Got a Friend" i honor and support of the Japan relief effort. It had some slices of crisp apple inside which added a wonderful sweetness with a little tanginess and added an unexpected texture to the roll which elevated it to the realm of the sublime. For the sashimi lovers, no worry: Takashi has you covered with an abundance of types of sashimi, including sashimi rolls. Sushi lovers, this is a must try!
The food is superberb, atompshere is excellent, service was 100%. The hotness, Destiny was kind enough to help us order from the menu.... She was outstanding and kind as could be...
