I had seen a great review of this restaurant a few years ago but only had the chance to visit yesterday. It was worth the 1 hour 10 minute drive to get there from where our winter home is. A real gourmet experience, from start to finish. The mussels were a standout.
Everything was delicious- the wine wasn’t what was listed but we bought it and drank it anyway and it was very good. Just need a little attention to the wine list. We love eating there.
We had a wonderful dining experience with delicious food, great service and calming atmosphere.
The grilled romaine was outstanding. My duck was so.so. No crispy skin & no seasoning or sauce. I remember dishes like steak tar tar & bone in filet. Menu kind of boring now in my opinion.
Wife had prime rib sandwich,ok she says. Kale salad was ver bland.
Food was just okay. Service was a bit awkward and at times we felt like a inconvenience.
Delicious food with excellent service. We really enjoyed the guitar player as well. Highly recommend. Fish stew is really special.
Brent was a first class service representative.
The food was as good as anticipated.
We will be back and we will request Brent.
Was great as usual! We just love this place. We brought friends who have been living on Sanibel seasonally for 30 years and never came!
They just Loved it! And said they will become regulars!
The petite entree option is wonderful - allows room for an appetizer and/or dessert
The waiter Frank, was very abrupt. Service level not commensurate with food. When asked if the blue cheese could be left off the salad, he told us if we don’t like blue cheese then choose another salad. Yikes! When we asked for the tenderloin to be done medium to medium well, he said choose one.
We debated was this just him or was that the restaurant? Either way less than optimal customer experience. If you can’t change an order ie taking out the blue cheese, then say it on the menu or tell the customer it’s already made up. If a customer asks for meat to be done a certain way, maybe ask if you want it red or pink? I think there are more ways to be gracious?!?!
I would suggest reading thru these reviews as well as Yelp. Service seems to be an issue
Every November when we visit Sanibel, Sweet Melissa’s is consistently the Best dining event on the Island. We were there last night, & enjoyed an exceptional meal. We look forward to dining there again next week.
Did not disappoint again!
You will not be disappointed! Everything was great!
After reading reviews and a recommendation from a server at another restaurant, we made our 5:00 reservation for the bar. We were one of the first parties of the evening. The beet salad was delicious-lovely flavors, texture, fresh dill flavor in the dressing. My husband had the grilled romaine which was equally delightful. Based on these two dishes alone, we’d highly recommend…but that doesn’t take into consideration the cold, impersonal service, or lack of service. The host greeted us with a grunted, “Do you have reservations?” from behind his mask. There were no words of welcome or evidence of a smile behind that mask. He dutifully sat us at our table without responding to my husband’s attempt at conversation. The same attitude was displayed by the bartender who was our server. No reply to my “We’re here to get your evening started!”, just matter of fact sharing of the specials and walking away mid-sentence. We wrapped our meal with our salads and one cocktail though we had planned to settle in for an evening of shared small plates and desserts. There is no way I would recommend that anyone spend their vacation dollars to be treated so poorly. Perhaps the locals fare better but I think it’s the visitors that pay the bills.
One of the best meals we have had and we have had alot…. The key lime and white chocolate bread pudding was an explosion in my mouth… This is the 2nd time we have eaten at Sweet Melissas Cafe and from start to finish it was exceptional! 👍👍👍👍 follow us on Instagram @fourthumbsup44 #fourthumbsup44
Two of us had the Fish Stew which was outstanding. We definitely will be back the next time we come to Sanibel.
Nice screened in outdoor space. Grilled octopus excellent. Seafood stew also great. Scallops perfectly done. All sauces were excellent.
The fish stew is amazing! A wonderful restaurant for a special night out. The prices are reasonable especially given the high quality and enjoyable atmosphere.
Delicious Ramen with housemade noodles, shrimp, pork belly, veg & soft egg. Split Artisan Greens salad. Large portion was very fresh. Friend enjoyed vegetable fettuccine with goat cheese fondue sauce
We have eaten at Melissa's many times. It is one of our favorite Sanibel restaurants. Unfortunately, it was not quite up to par on this visit. Our server (Frank) was excellent as he always is. Cocktails were very good. My wife and I chose to share the featured/nightly especial appetizer, the beet and salmon salad. Honestly, the two just didn't work together. My tuna entre was overcooked and had very little flavor. My wife said that her duck was equally unimpressive. Other meals at our table were the scallops and the Fillet, both were very good. Anything less than excellent is not the norm for Melissa's. We will be back and recommend that you give it a try.
Total success. The scallops and seafood stew were both excellent. They serve great bread and the desserts were wonderful. The local guitar music in the background was a special bonus.
We were very disappointed with Melissa's dinner on Wednesday night - just not up to her high standards. The beet salad had no dressing at all on the greens (dry), the fish stew was not up to par, and the sweetbreads were too overpowered by a very hot sauce that burned my lips. I hope that this was just an off night, but we won't be returning any time soon. We have been faithful customers and brought guests for many years.
Seafood stew as good as in France or Belgium! Our server was superb - flexible, knowledgable, aiming to please! Love the kitchen noise level - you can hear and smell your food being prepared. The half portions are all we need for a late night dinner. Sweet Melissa's is now our favorite go to along with Traders I on Sanibel Island.
It has been almost 2 years since we last had a chance to dine here. We were pleased that the quality of the food and service remain high. For us Sweet Melissa’s Cafe is the top restaurant on Sanibel.
Great food. Recommend the calamari appetizer- excellent and the thin mint with very cream.
The mussels and fries were sublime, perfectly cooked and perfectly delicious. The salads are enormous, very grateful our server let us know. The scallops, 4 for a full serving, were amazing, lightly charred on the outside, creamy inside. The fish stew is the house special, with good reason. It is a lot of seafood, in a superb herby wine sauce. One of the best seafood meals, this from a Gulf coast native.
We enjoy sitting at the bar and interacting with Kevin and other diners.
We’re usually here in March. It was a little quieter but enjoyed catching up with Kevin.
We always love Sweet Melissa’s and some of the changes she has made on the menu are great. The duck should be a little more rare than medium in the future but otherwise great. My husband loved the mussels.
Scallops were delicious - smooth and silky. I am not a garlic lover but the black garlic sauce in little dollops around the plate were too die for. Kevin is great and attentive.
As a single, I always appreciate being able to not take a table for 2 or more away from a server. Thanks Melissa for making this single lady looking forward to going out.
Unique menu items with great service and wine list
One of the best dining experiences in the area
A big table of folks arrived & the noise level went way up
We love this place. Food is excellent; service is good, professional; atmosphere is friendly; environment is very relaxing, comfortable and up-scale without being uppity. Great place to have a very nice dining experience.
Great fresh food interesting combinations of everything!
Awesome food. Great menu. Our waitress Shelley was fantastic. Give her a raise.
Our best meal of our trip, we where seated in a great screened in porch. Started out with great cocktails. All our apps and entrees where delicious. Service was great! A step above the usual fare on the island!
Excellent food,atmosphere and service.
Delicious meal. Our service was very efficient and not overly congenial. The dessert was outstanding‼️
We enjoyed a fantastic meal: beet salad, fish stew, and swordfish for my husband; I had the grilled Romaine salad and the scallops. Everything was perfectly prepared and plated. Hands down the very best swordfish I have ever tasted. I love the fact that full portions and half (petit) portions are available. A talented guitarist played lovely music in the background. Our server was efficient, helpful and conscientious.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, food was excellent. Service was really good too, Hannah was very attentive & informative. Thank you for lovely evening
Wonderful tasting food with attentive service! Will certainly return for more.
