Sushi Sasbune offers a unique Omakase-style sushi experience. Ranging from 13-15 courses, we specialize in using as much local fish as possible, creating a meal that can be found nowhere else in the world! For those who do not wish to participate in the Omakase course, a la carte ordering is available to tables (sushi bar is omakase only). However, we are a specialty sushi restaurant, meaning we do not serve California rolls etc. All nigiri are served with its own unique sauce and topping, meant to be eaten as is, so we do not offer shoyu at the table. First time diners are encouraged to try the Omakase course, as it best reflects our sushi identity. In the words of head chef owner, Trust me!

I was incredibly surprised at how much I enjoyed this experience. I was not familiar with the Omakase style dining. We sat down expecting to order our usual but instead they started bringing us small plates. After the 2nd one we asked & she explained each course has 2 styles of sushi. There are 13-14 courses. If we are full before end of courses, give notice & they will stop serving. Each one we looked at each other wondering what had we done but were incredibly surprised at how creative the flavors were. Very tasty & made us definitely want to return on our next trip.
Come hungry & willing to taste everything they bring you.
THIS WAS THE MOST INCREDIBLE SUSHI I HAVE EVER EATEN
Great experience, food quality outstanding, value as expected.
Unequivocally the best sushi on the island, rivaling even $900-per-head places like Sushi Sho. Every bite is pure magic. Superstars of the omakase menu include the toro (usually the second plate), the smoked aku, the tako (which is so tender it almost melts in your mouth), the salmon, and the baby lobster.
The staff is very professional and efficient, and for the quality of food here the prices are reasonable. If I happened upon a genie and he gave me three wishes, one would be that I get to eat at Sasabune every day.
Amazing experience. I would recommend this to anyone who loves sushi.
Its pricey but well worth it! Its been a while since I went last and was reminded why its so good. Fresh fish with unique twists!
Very nice food. Chefs were professional and severs gave a detailed explanation on each sushi plate we get.
One of the very best sushi meals I have ever had! And I have eaten sushi all over the world, including Tokyo. The fish was incredibly fresh, each one perfectly prepared and dressed to the chef's specification, and the combination with perfectly cooked and warm sushi rice was delicious! The other dishes were equally good, and the service was superb! Sushi Sasubune is in a very unassuming building in downtown Honolulu, but as soon as you walk though the door, you feel like you've been transported to a little inn somewhere in rural Japan.
One of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii! And that's saying something!
Food is disappointing. Very salty. The quality of fish is not as good as before. Service is not good. Chef didn’t take care of you.
Amazing. Would go back!
Chef Seiji Kumagawa is truly a master His preparation in simple yet elegant He sources his product from all over the world, selecting the best of the best While sushi lovers will be thrilled by the variety and new approaches, sushi beginners will be thrilled by the inclusion of cooked portions as well Chef Kumagawa uses warm rice as a base which is a real treat. We were so enamored by the food, we forgot to take photos But images of the uni and the fatty tuna remained seared in my mind . Don’t miss this place It is some of the best sushi east of Japan
Absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the best omakases I’ve ever had & certainly so much cheaper than the top omakases in New York and Tokyo! We were soooo full after the whole meal but still had two scoops of matcha ice cream and they were some of the best ice creams we’ve had as well.
Can’t wait to come back again.
My favorites: squid stuffed with crab meat inside, kanpachi, scallop, sweet shrimp & salmon with chopped salmon on top!
Best sushi on island!
Amazing tastes and textures! Each bite was a pleasant surprise! The omakase journey was like a story of how Hawai’i and Japanese cultures collide, narrated by the attentive waiters.
Incredible experience as always. Omakase is a must.
Best omakase on the island. Definitely a hidden gem
We go here every year when we come to Hawaii and it's delicious. One thing that I don't love is that they serve you so quickly that you feel pressured to eat and you have to make a conscious effort to slow down. Also, the chef was not wearing a mask.
We can always count on sasabune to serve fresh sushi in unique ways. Omakase is excellent. Quality is superb!
他の高級お寿司屋さんと違って、ローカルのお魚をメインに提供されるレストランです。丁寧に下処理されてて、ハワイ近海で漁れたお魚とは思えないほどでした。
Must visit of you are looking for omakase, octopus sushi is amazing
Really great omakase- almost too much food so come hungry, though you can always stop early
Very nice experience for my date night! I was so impressed!
Amazing as usual. Best sushi place. Period. Will definitely continue going back.
Tasting menu was phenomenal. Service prompt and polite. A little pricey but a good experience overall.
Kinda expensive but worth it. Food was amazing and I will be coming back.
This was our first time trying omakase-style dining. Let me just start by saying that you need to approach this experience with an open mind and trust the chef. Each course was prepared expertly with an incredible attention to detail. The beauty of each piece was equally matched by the exquisite flavor combinations. I told my wife I felt like I was in sushi heaven. They have an incredible selection of sakes to choose from so be sure to include that as part of your meal. If you’re looking for an adventurous experience and you love sushi, try Sasabune!
You basically just sit down at the table and they keep bringing you amazing different types of sushi.
No menu. No prices given. Just mind blowing amazing sushi !
Nice place, the chefs added unique favors to the sushi. We will visit again.
Be prepared to spend some $$$$ in this restaurant, I don't really know if what we spent is worth the food. The sushi was great and precise. I just think some of the prices were over the top a little. I would go there again, someday.
I love to take my wife to Sushi Sasabune at least once a year because we’re never disappointed with the quality and love that they put into their food.
Sushi Sasabune is sushi at a whole other level. You pay the price, but worth it! Bring your appetite though.
Best sushi I’ve ever had. Came here with my boyfriend’s siblings and our significant others and it was a great dining experience and worth every penny!
Sushi Sasabune is without peers in Hawaii. Far and away the best! This includes the service and the authenticity of the restaurant environment
It’s just great. Not your usual American sushi.
Our experience at Sasabune was phenomenal. The chefs are absolute masters of their craft, and every dish was created with precision and careful thought. We had the Omakase experience, and it was absolutely worth it. Our bill came to about $245, but we only had 11 of 13 courses. The prices are not inflated, they just reflect quality and the sheer volume of food served.
My 35th bday!!
Sushi is alway delicious here
Best sushi ever!
The dinner felt very rushed. At one point of the meal we had 3 dishes each on our table and we seriously weren't given any time to throughly enjoy our experience. When i brought it up to our servers attention if he can slow it down or to pause it, he simply said that we already have another course made and it's coming out soon.
The experience was completely enjoyable and almost too much to consume. Each course was explained and delicious. One observation, not really a complaint: with a couple exceptions, staff seemed reluctant to smile and encourage interaction with patrons. That said, those of us at the sushi bar quickly made connection with each other over the common experience.
