Sushi Sasabune Hawaii
We serve our "OMAKASE" 50 people for per day and we closed when we sold out. Please make a call first for availability. Mahalo
The experience was completely enjoyable and almost too much to consume. Each course was explained and delicious. One observation, not really a complaint: with a couple exceptions, staff seemed reluctant to smile and encourage interaction with patrons. That said, those of us at the sushi bar quickly made connection with each other over the common experience.
Some of the freshest sushi - love the omokase
We come here every time we come to Honolulu. Somehow it just keeps getting better. Amazing food, and not as expensive as it might merit. Don’t miss it.
Best sushi of our loves!!!
Not much shell fish in chef’s course, which I do not like. They need more waiters or waitresses.
Food was exceptional more fusion style in my opinion. I must say pretty expensive compared to what I’ve had in Japan but apparently we not in Japan! Highly recommended if you can’t make it to Japan just be ready to pay luxury prices for your 15 course Omakase!😋
The usual level of excellence.
Wonderful way to celebrate a birthday! Awesome sushi, sake and dessert!
The best Sushi- Sashimi and creative dishes we have even had. Its just too hard to explain how great it was. The wait staff- superb and I learned more about Sake- wow it was great and is served so uniquely. We will go back next time in Honolulu. Its a small restaurant - make sure you have reservations well in advance.
It was my birthday dinner, and probably the best meal I’ve had in my life. All of the servers were phenomenal and very knowledgeable. lol
Great food. We visit every year from Canada and really enjoy the Omakase menu.
Best sushi ever! Definitely do the omokase tasting.
The assortment of fresh fish and seafood along with the special sauce variations and accent flavors are like no other.
Very delicious courses. We've gone twice - the first time doing omakase and the second time just picking the ones we wanted because we could never finish all the courses in the omakase.
This was probably my 5th or 6th visit to Sushi Sasabune. Between visits, my memory of the meal fades, and I become less interested in returning, but then something prompts another visit, and my love for the food returns. That is what happened last night. My nephew turned 21, and he wanted to go here to celebrate. Each course was perfectly prepared. We kept saying the next dish was our favorite, but really it would be hard to pick. They have even improved on the only "so-so" dish, which is the last dish in the omakase. My favorites were the ones that used the shiso leaf and yuzu touches. But all were outstanding. My next visit will be sooner rather than later.
Delicious dinner. Long wait despite a reservation. Next time, I’ll ask for the sushi bar!
Very very good sushi, enjoy just about everything it was served during that omakase, will come back again
It took a while to come back here somehow but I realized this is a must try Sushi when you are in Hawaii. I’ve been frequent at Sushi Murayama and Sushi Ii this past a few years and I was moaning with each bite tonight at Sasabune. What they creat here is like a wine paring and all the garnish come with each Sushi was a perfection. Perfectly balanced and enhanced each Sushi to the next level. I’m from Japan and I can highly recommend Sasabune as an authentic Sushi restaurant with a Hawaiian twist.
This is without question the best sushi on the planet outside of Japan. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and just kind. Put yourself into the hands of the chef and just trust them! Guaranteed you won’t regret it.
Superb food, service and ambience. 12 course omekase dinner, delicious fresh fish/ sea food prepared perfectly in multiple ways. A must for sushi lovers. Price great, highly recommended.
Our favorite sushi
Sushi Master Seiji- always does a fine job. Food always taste great, fresh, inspiring, and presentation is outstanding. This is not the place for the sushi novice. Omakase is the only way to go- enjoy the adventure and experience all that Sasabune has to offer. Tate and the service staff always do a fine job servicing our table making sure dishes are cleared and water is filled. Its one of my favorite restaurants and must dining options when I'm in town.
Simply put: best sushi in Hawaii. Omakase style is the way to go. Every bite is diving.
Delicious but quite expensive. Except the final course which was an albicore hand wrap essentially a seaweed wrapped tuna fish sandwich with a Shiso leaf providing a severe anticlimax.
Amazing as always!
Amazing best sushi I have ever experienced
The Japanese Omakase experience was exciting and fun as we don’t know what is on the menu and gets surprised by each beautiful dish. They had seafood from all over the world and were very delicious great quality. It was also nice that every guest have the option to end their Omakase at any point of the meal since it can get quite filling and gets to around 13 courses. I had 2 friends out of 6 that didn’t go for the omakase menu since they are not raw fish eaters and they told me the A la carte menu for cooked food was also very delicious and high quality. However the restaurant in general is very strict with the rule that groups over 4 people must all order the omakase menu. We got lucky that night and the Manager seemed understanding.
Seiji- Master Sushi Chef always does an outstanding job- Omakase "Trust Me" is the only way to go here. He always takes you on an unbelievable dining adventure using some of the freshest seafood around the world as well as local. Tate- host and the rest of the wait staff always take fine care of me and wife. We always make a reservation while were in town.
Sushi Sasabune is by far the best sushi experience I've ever had.
Beat of the best!
Definitely sit at the bar!
I only get to eat here once every year or so (when I am in Honolulu). Every time I wonder if I have over hyped it in my mind... yet it never fails to live up to or exceed expectations. Having been to top restaurants around the world, this small Omakase style sushi restaurant in Honolulu is frankly one of my very favorite places on earth.
We had the most fresh sushi in Sushi Sasabune in our one week of eating tour of Honolulu. Similar omakase in San Francisco area would cost 50% more. It would be our go-to Japanese omakase restaurant in Honolulu for all our friends.
My husband and I experienced sushi omakase style for the first time ever last night! We love sushi but had never had ANYTHING like this. We were absolutely blown away with the how absolutely delicious these courses were. We had no idea raw fish could taste so amazing. I dont think I can eat nigri back home again! You have a choice between American and Japanese style omakase. We did the American style sushi because we wanted to test the waters. We had no idea how we would like this much raw fish. Japanese style is a lot of shellfish. I did not take pictures of all the courses but I think I only missed two or three. I cant remember all the different fish or the sauces on top, but the flavors were incredible!! I was super intimidated by the oysters because I had had them before and they were not good. These were AMAZING! I could have probably eaten 20 of them! There was only one course we didn't like as much, and that was the himachi hand roll (not pictured). Only reason we didn't like it as much was due to the strong fishy taste of the seaweed, but the inside was good still! We finished all the courses and it was around $280 (not including the tip) for the two of us with just water for drinks had dessert ($5 each). The dessert at the time was either Kona Coffee or Matcha flan. I'd recommend the Kona Coffee one unless you're a huge matcha fan. Overall, highly recommend this place. The cost is worth it if you're even remotely a sushi fan, it will spoil your tastebuds and you will never see sushi the same way again! Hope we can come back!!
Blew my mind. The quality of the fish was exceptional and the preparation was thoughtful and fun. One of the best sushi experiences of my life.
5 of us did omakase at the bar. Food and service always great. This is a great place to have a nice spread of quality bites. Portion size allows you to get thru the whole meal.
By far the best sushi I've ever eaten. You can tell how much work goes into each dish. With every bite it's a different explosion of tastes. It's quite amazing how a small piece of fish can have so much flavour. We really enjoyed this place would definitely recommend it!
Excellent quality of ingredients. Wonderful combinations.
Wow we had a very mixed experience. The food was great although portions were very small compared to average sushi restaurant.
Sushi was very fresh.
We had to guess on what to order.
It was a total shock that several employees did not speak English well. We struggled with a menu that had little Description or detail and the waitress and manager could not help us understand anything— very very frustrating for a 4.8 rating that we were so looking forward to experience.
Overall very disappointed.
Probably a 5 if you speak Japanese ! !
Was unaware of “Omakase Only” at the sushi bar. “Sorry Sir, that’s all that’s available.” First taste. 2 kinds of tuna completely cover by a gloppy sauce. Was that fish under there? Who could tell? It went on from there. Small, melted uni, everything over sauced. A touch of soy should be enough. No chance here. Promoted as “special,” no better than your average strip mall sushi joint. Don’t waste your time here.
