Been eating here for 22 years it is always excellent. best Sushi place I've ever eaten at. My Kendo Sensei from NYC goes to Tokyo twice a year eats at the best says Sasabune is better!

All the fish were fresh and delicious. The sauces or accompaniments enhanced the fish so well. The sushi rice were just right. Got a medium low -priced bottle of cold sake which was also wonderful. All in all one of best omakase we have experienced.

Enjoyed Sushi Omakase dinner. Selection of nigiri sushi was spot on- great presentation and flavors. Sake & Beer selection always satisfying. always great to try old favorites as well as new recommendations from host Tate and Fano. Always enjoy ourselves dining here for dinner. Thanks to Seiji and the chefs as well as the service staff. Job well done.

VERY CONDESENDING "Company Policy" - “YOU MUST EAT YOUR SUSHI IN ONE BITE!” Rating: 🌟 One Star I had visited Sushi Sasabune in Honolulu, Hawaii, four times in the past always sitting at their sushi bar and unfortunately, this time, my experience was far from pleasant. Brent, Sushi Chef and Server’s, condescending and arrogant attitude left me feeling verbally abused and upset during my dinner. On two separate occasions, in front of other guests, Brent told me and insisted that I must "eat the sushi in one bite" due to their supposed "company policy." The second time he came around to see how I was eating my sushi, he literally cut me off mid-sentence in my conversation with my husband to reprimand me. Despite explaining that I had a disability and physically could not eat in that manner because my mouth and throat had been reconstructed due to cancer, he responded without any compassion, saying, "Try to do it." Is this guy for real? A restaurant should not dictate how you eat your meal! This lack of understanding and empathy towards my situation was truly disheartening. His dismissive behavior made me feel humiliated and uncomfortable, to the point where I could not take another bite. For a restaurant that charges $200 per person, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and customer service. I believe it is essential for restaurant staff to be accommodating and respectful towards customers in general. Unfortunately, Brent failed to meet even the most basic standards of customer care. It is disappointing to encounter such a negative experience in a high-end establishment like Sushi Sasabune. I strongly urge the management of Sushi Sasabune to address this issue and provide appropriate training to their staff regarding customer service and inclusivity. No one should be made to feel verbally abused or humiliated during their dining experience. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Sushi Sasabune based on my personal encounter with their condescending

The food and service here are excellent however the experience was overpriced. Other high end sushi experiences I’ve been too are easily 20-30% less expensive and equally high service and quality.

We enjoyed trying new sushi and sashimi entrees. Would prefer a notification in items outside of that spectrum. Example, had we known, we would request no oysters and enjoyed more sushi entrees. Out of 13 to 14 courses, we stopped at 9. We go again. Delicious!

Great Omakase where the starters were my favorites again. On all dishes the fish was carefully sourced and used and their sauce additions are spectacular and just the right minimal amount. I don’t care much for mackerel but even that was good. My least favorite this time was the lobster. Very tentative and friendly staff!

I absolutely love this place. The service is like a hawk they know what you want before you do. The food is excellent, some of highest grades of sushi I’ve had and the sauces that compliment the nigiri are perfection. My favorite Omakase experience in America hands down!

We love sushi, but this was next level! Bring your adventurous side - we tried things we have never had and loved every bit of it. The sake recommendations, service, and atmosphere were all wonderful. Nothing short of amazing, we are already planning our next visit.

Paid $180 for a meal that should have been around $50. Service and ambience also not at par with the price - no menu or overview of the courses, single use utensils, plastic low quality plates, ginger and wasabi to share for the table, etc… Food was terrible: cheap fish (so much mackerel) and fish that wasn’t fresh (tuna texture off, slimy fishy smell on several courses, oysters are not delicate, half piece of uni…. Overall very dissatisfied and pretty frustrated.

This omakase was hands down the best we’ve ever had, especially considering how many pieces you get. And if you can’t complete it, they only charge for what you ate (very nice of them!). Cannot recommend this place enough!!

I’ve been going to Sushi Sasabune for over 10 years and it has never disappointed! When I compare it to the Michelin star sushi I’ve had in Japan and the US I find it’s superior in most ways. The innovation, the freshness of the seafood, the complex flavors make this a must try for anyone who thinks they know good sushi

I have been wanting to try Sushi Sasabune for a long time, and finally made it. I love sushi and have dined at many sushi restaurants here in Honolulu. I am impressed by the freshness of the food and the variety of the dishes presented. Very appreciative of the description given of each course. The staff was professional but welcoming and accommodating. They offer a nice selection of sake from different parts of Japan. Although they listed some of my favorites I wanted to try something new. The server's sake recommendation was spot on, and I very much enjoyed the sake she recommended. And, at $168 for a 15-course omakase dinner, definitely a great value. Excitedly looking forward to returning and bringing my family with me.

Quality of sushi was fantastic however I was disappointed that the pickled ginger tasted like the stuff you can buy at the store and the wasabi was not all real wasabi (it was the stuff that tastes like horseradish). I just think if I’m paying $200+ per person the quality of the sides should be good as well. I was also surprised that the sushi chefs did not interact with us aside from telling us what we were eating. Most sushi omakase we have experienced where we sat at the counter, the chef would at least converse with us. The sake recommendation was fantastic, I applaud the waiter that recommended it to us. Overall, sushi was good, but would I pay $200+ a person for it? Probably not however it was good to experience at least once

The food served was phenomenal. I have eaten a lot of sushi in my life and this was by far the best sushi that I have ever had. The chef really puts together something special and you will truly enjoy it. It’s not a cheap meal if you got a big appetite but I’d say it’s reasonable for the quality of food.

Price transparency is much needed! I was presented a drink menu and that was in. Food started coming out since it was omakase and then I’m paying $170. What a surprise. The food is worth the value - stating the price upfront would be appreciated.
