Sushi Roku - Newport Beach
Delicious and creative food in a chic atmosphere. We dined on the patio on a beautiful cool evening. Heaters kept us very comfortable and the well selected music being played was at a nice volume. My husband doesn’t eat sushi but the menu here is filled with a multitude of yummy offerings for those who do not. Everything we ordered was delicious. I would highly recommend visiting Sushi Roku.
Great happy hour menu and nice outdoor seating.
Interesting restaurant. Average food. Good service. Music way to loud.
I have been to Sushi Roku many times before. Each time was a great experience, even on the busy weekends, but this time was different. Sat down at 5:50 pm outside and it wasn’t very crowded. Our server came over at 5:55pm and said be right with you. At 6:02 our server finally comes to take our drink order and when I ask about happy hour he said it ended. I explained we sat down at 5:50 and it took 12 minutes for him to come over. He even asked the table next to us 2 minutes before about last call for happy hour. I spoke up but he insisted it was too late. We get our food 15 minutes later, it was really delicious as always, and our server has not checked up on his once. The only time he came to our table was to ask if we wanted our water refilled that had been sitting there empty for 10 minutes after we finished our meal. Someone was standing behind us briefly when we first sat down who I assumed was the manager and I could see he was worried because we still hadn’t been greeted. He didn’t say I word either. The food and ambience is always good. And everybody else is always friendly. But this one experience is a major turn off, especially if you are spending over 100 on sushi. This could had been handled differently, and I will be looking for other sushi restaurants around the area because I know there are plenty.
We booked a table but end up eating at the bar. The bartender Andrew was super nice, everything he recommended was delicious. There was a DJ playing hiphop and electric music, which we loved that a lot too. Highly recommend it, will definitely go back.
Went there for Happy Hour with 5 friends before going to the movies. Great delicious and new choices for shared plates and drinks were good too. Prices were fair, spent $200 including tip. We sat in the bar area. Our waiter could have been more attentive and nicer too. He even made an off comment to me when I asked him to fill the water glasses of two in our group. He asked if I was the water monitor. Very rude of him and not his business to do that to customers. I was the one who suggested Sushi Roku and two in our group had never ate there before so I wanted to make sure everyone was happy. What's wrong with that? Other than our waiter lacking a nice personality and manners, everything was fine. We would go again, just avoid sitting in that waiter's section.
Great Food and Great service! A bit pricey but still one of our favorites!
I love this restaurant. The food is great and the staff is a pleasure. The offering is consistent and high quality.
This was my first time on a Saturday night. I didn’t know they have a DJ on duty. The music was uninteresting and interferes with conversation.
Always the best quality food here. The drinks are superb as well.
Their happy hour menu is amazing, and you can still add items from the main menu.
The manager Christopher Han is top notch. This may be part of a network of restaurants but he runs it with a caring flair with its own uniqueness. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
Courtney was a fantastic server and the rest of the Sushi Roku team was great too. Everyone always helping to clear dirty plates from tables, pouring more wine before ever having to ask, and making great recommendations on food. Courtney, thank you for making my wife’s birthday unforgettable. I normally would say to request Courtney as your server, but honestly after coming here for the last 2 years we have always had amazing service always from different servers.
Excellent service, great food, but the DJ/music is really too loud. We could not talk to each other without shouting and had our seating changed to the sushi bar where it was mush easier to communicate and enjoy.
Food was delicious and consistent
This was my fourth visit and EVERY time I try something new, along with my favorites and it is AMAZING. The food is ALWAYS incredible, the ambiance is perfect and the staff are the best in town. I highly recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE, even non sushi lovers like my husband. There is something for everyone. It is also my kids favorite restaurant! Two boys, 12 & 14.
Plant based omakase is phenomenal! The pacing is just a bit off in regards to service.
Outstanding food!!! The service is great!! Reasonably priced. Great wine choices. One of our very favorite Newport Beach restaurants!
the sushi does not seem authentic, it is a contemporary version. Not to my taste, but others may like it.
Not sure what happened but it took over an hour to get our food. We noticed others that had come in and ordered after us get served.
Good food with many choices in addition to sushi. Drinks were good and and service was very good.
Easy to find - located in shopping center with plenty of parking.
We go to sushi role weekly! Miles is our favorite server!! Great food. Great service.
Love this place, the food, the ambience, the service and the servers, everyone always pays such attention to detail! Their oysters are the best in the state, as are their brussell sprout chips, black edamame, and the Gensai roll is delicious! This time we had the short ribs over mashed potato appetizer - OMG - just heavenly! The servers are all so polite and helpful, and James and Christine are always there, checking in and ensuring that customers are happy! Such a nice place to be, we really love it! Thanks!
Sat on their patio and enjoyed several selections from their Happy Hour menu. One of our favorite things to do whenever we're near Fashion Island. There's a nice big screen TV too, we watched golf tonight. We always have a nice experience at Sushi Roku. Our waiter was fabulous. Just be
forewarned, families with young children usually sit on the patio area so sit inside the bar area or restaurant if little kids bug you. It all depends how much control the parents or grownups decide to have over their children. Some parents let their children run around crazy and yell at the top of their lungs as though they were at a park or at home. So annoying but not the restaurant's fault at all.
Roy was an amazing sushi chef and took great care of us. Delicious and creative sushi options for our Omakase dinner. The whole staff was so friendly too. Thanks!
Very loud place. Lots of families, not good if you want to have dinner and conversation. Food was okay.
Ambiance was fantastic, and the food was fresh and delicious. The staff was attentive and polite.
Sushi Roku never disappoints!!! Love the atmosphere, staff and food!
Foods amazing, fun atmosphere, but pricy. Did a fun desert for birthday celebration
My partner and I had dined at Nobu two evenings before deciding to give Sushi Roka’s offerings a try. We made a last minute lunch reservation and, having completed our urban hunting and gathering,, arrived at the restaurant roughly on time to be greeted graciously by the hostess and quickly seated at a booth of our choice. Very pleasant beginning to the meal. We started with shared orders of seaweed salad and Japanese eggplant in a slightly sweet sesame sauce, our favorite of the dishes we selected this day. That being said, we preferred Sushi Roku’s version of seaweed salad to Nobu’s. They are quite different but both good. We ordered the sashimi and the sushi lunches, which we also shared. Both were well crafted and beautifully presented with fish as fresh as one would expect. We were seated so as to observe the chefs, all Japanese, work. The six of them were a focused, well-oiled team, altogether on task. Service was attentive but not overbearing. We particularly enjoyed our waitress. Most tables were occupied, but service appeared to run smoothly. The quality of the items we tasted at Sushi Roka compared favorably with Nobu’s. Nobu’s presentations are aesthetically more refined, to be sure, but Sushi Roka provides an altogether satisfying dining experience in an inviting, casual atmosphere at significantly lower cost. I will add to this review after we have had dinner there.
My family and I frequent this spot outstanding old school feel food always on point and Christine the manager always ready to greet us who even does that these days? We always have our favorites on the menu but always enjoy trying something new . This is usually our first stop after picking up family from the airport coming from New York it’s always requested ! . This was our first date night but we always come with our daughter with special needs and in her adaptive stroller always feel so welcomed and accommodate us as a family . We are grateful. Can’t wait for the next trip back always looking forward to it.
We requested that the chef create a meal for us that was not on the menu. It was one of the best experiences our group has ever had
Our server was the best. Very attentive. The Izakaya Fiest was delicious and filling.
The food was good but not great. The food needs to be better for the prices. The Brussel sprout chips and beef wrapped asparagus were our favorites.
Everything was great, a bit pricy though.
Excellent service! Best we’ve seen in a very long time.
Great sushi, very good service, attentive hostess. Celebrated my son’s 18th birthday, the music and ambiance suited well. Would come again.
Fresh and delicious sushi and sashimi, delicious hand crafted cocktails and desserts that are the bomb. Speaking of the bomb, you must try the cotton candy with cheesecake and chocolate buried inside. Sooo good. Lychee sorbet is also yummy. Service is over the top good. We highly recommend!
Our server was absolutely amazing the food was great but the service is what knocked it out of the park
This place was amazing. The food, the environment and the staff were all incredible!
Family get together.
