Sushi Lounge on Market Ratings and Reviews
Went here on a late evening. This place was ok, although the bartender was a little inattentive. They had a sashimi platter that I was trying to ask if the rice was on the side and the bartender proceeded to explain to me what sashimi was. Pretty annoying. After about the third try, the answer was yes the sushi rice is on the side (as I thought but just needed it confirmed). The platter came out and it was good. Had the platter with an extra tuna and salmon. I would come back again, but I would first visit some of the other sushi spots in the area to see if they had better service.
Enjoyable sushi. Some of the rolls are delightfully creative in a non traditional fashion. Both times I've gone, the service has been a bit slow and haphazard... But the servers are running around doing things constantly, which makes me think the issue is that the servers are understaffed by at least one person, not that the two servers I've had on past visits are less than good.
We were supposed to be dining with another couple who cancelled last minute, and the hostess made us feel like it was a huge imposition, by looking around the empty restaurant and deciding where to seat us. She eventually put us at a high top community table. I have no problem sharing a table with strangers, but I prefer to have a backed chair. Sushi: half was really good, half was chewy and fishy.
Made a reservation for V-day here after reading the reviews. The food did not disappoint. Everything was very good but here are some definite stand-outs.
The Chirashi sushi appetizer was amazing, we would order this every time!
A must have was the 92101 roll but you need to like truffles. This roll was hands down the best I have ever had. Every bite developed a different, complimentary flavor. I will go to Sushi Lounge for this roll alone. Enjoy!
Ordered Miso soup and Edamame - neither show up. Spider Roll had burnt Calamari.
Did not have our Open Table reservation.
Could not modify the spicy tuna to remove the mayonnaise from the spicy sauce.
Sorry - there are better sushi restaurants in the Gas Lamp.
Enjoyed sitting at the patio during lunch with a friendly and knowledgeable server. Like that it wasn't busy and service was quick. We had the crunchy and scallop sushi...very good! Salmon Roe ngiri was tasty ! And really enjoyed the gyoza, fried just right! Would definitely return!
Tried the Raw Salmon Bowl off the Happy Hour menu, and the Kaiju Roll. Absolutely delicious! Tasty selection of sake, too. I got a good meal with delicious food and drinks without killing my wallet. I was pleasantly surprised, given the general price of food in the area.
We frequent often. Was a Sunday night before 4th of July. Very understaffed and service abnormally slow. Heard many complaints from adjacent tables as well. Food and server were however excellent, as usual. Many restaurants and bars in DT did not plan ahead for the large volume on a Sunday night going into a holiday...
Overall, the dining experience was just meh...Ordered the delicious sounding Tempura Langostino appetizer and was disappointed. The lobster "meatball" was clearly prepared beforehand and stored in a freezer. The center was ice cold, even after a deep fried Tempura bath! It was like taking a bite of a popsicle. The rolls redeemed the night somewhat as they were average to slightly above average in taste. I expected a little more from a sushi joint in the San Diego Gaslamp district. Will try something else next time...
My group and I went for dinner during a bachelorette weekend. Our server, Brian, was very attentive and even talked to some of his coworkers to get us some recommendations for bars for after dinner. The food was delicious, drinks were reasonably priced and it was nice not being rushed out so they could sit another party.
Horrible Service! All employees were doing double and triple duty. Sat ourselves after hostess/waitress forgot we had a reservation. Ordered our food. Appetizers took 25 min to arrive. I finally got up at 1 hour and expressed my disappointment with the manager that the food had not been delivered to our table. To which he replied that they had a large group and that set them back. NO EXCUSES!!! this restaurant is in the Gas Lamp District and there are hundreds of other restaurants that want my business. So I took it somewhere else. Nano Sushi!!! they took care of me and my family and our craving for Sushi!!! I do not recommend this restaurant.
The restaurant was relatively slow. We were seated right away. We then proceeded to wait for 15 minutes without being approached by anyone. I flagged down the hostess after about 10 minutes to ask about a drink menu and she blew me off saying that they don't have one and I'll have to ask my server. A server never showed so we left hungry and angry after about 20 minutes.
