The Surf Club Ocean Grille is Virginia Beach's most elegant oceanfront eatery. Our name has evolved from the history of our property, which goes back to the thirties and forties. Back then, Big Band Leaders such as Jimmy Dorsey and Glenn Miller brought their big sound to our sandy shores. In remembrance of those glory years, we have created an atmosphere with the freshest seafood, contemporary comfort, and of course, a sensational view!

    Restaurant was remodel and looks good. The server was friendly and very professional, The food was horrible loaded with grease which made us ill later. I will not return unless they change the cook.

    Reviewed the menu online before booking. Had several items that sounded wonderful. Arrived at the restaurant, and it looked like a school cafeteria. Eventually after being seated, a waitperson arrived with menus. That were one page! None of the items shown online were on the menu. Asked waitperson, and she said it was their first day open after renovations. There was NOTHING online about renovations and a limited menu!! Overall a very disappointing experience, and I will not be returning, ever.

    I made the reservation through open table for Valentines day, we arrived and the restaurant was under construction and only open to hotel guest. They refused to seat us and did nothing to try and assist. Extremely disappointed and will never eat there. When I said that we made the reservation through open table, they responded with, Are manager left the restaurant a few months ago and nobody here knows the password to update and we deals with this all time. Needless to say, trying to find another place to eat on Valentines day at the last minute proved to be unsuccessful and out evening was ruined. Please make every effort to either remove this restaurant or find a new way to confirm restaurant availability. I will be sending a complaint to the restaurant and the hotel as well.

    How hard can breakfast be? Food was cold, service poor, and took forever. It's been a few years since I dined there and remember it as good to very good, overall. This experience wasn't good. It's such a great location and hope that they can improve.

    The restaurant was very empty when we arrived. The view of the Ocean was great. We were sat at a table and the air condition unit was leaking on the seats. We told the hostess and she said sometimes that happens. We cuddled closer together and ordered. The waitress did not know what veggie they had and told us one thing and something different came-no big deal....but the food took almost an hour to come out. it was just ok. I didn’t eat my shrimp from my salad bc it tasted horrible. My mother got fish and chips and it better. All and all not very pleased.

    We were disappointed in the portion sizes. They were very small particularly Igor entrees. Steaks were incredibly small for the price paid. Overpriced and disappointed. Was not a good place to celebrate our anniversary.

    Dining is run down looking, with clearly not enough tables to fill the space = no demand; food was poorly prepared- definitely using frozen, non fresh ingredients; server was friendly but not attentive. Will never set foot in there again.

    The only thing good here was the view of the ocean. We went here for Easter Brunch, but wish we had picked another place. The selections were very limited, the carving station was a disappointment, and the only breakfast items included hotel level scrambled eggs and an omelette station. No toast, waffles, french toast...you know normal breakfast items. We will not be returning.

    During Restaurant Week we always like to try new places. The food was delicious. Fried green tomatoes especially! Lisa was our server and did a fantastic job. So personable and made sure we were ready to see the dolphins.

    We were there on Christmas Eve. I had made a 5:30 reservation. We rode around looking at Christmas lights and arrived at the restaurant at 5:30. We were seated, served graciously, the manager offered to take a picture of us by the tree on the way out. When I got home I had a phone message from them that they were closing at 5. (Evidently Open Table did not have this information.) I think it was pretty great that they were so gracious and never mentioned that they were keeping the place open for us! We had a great time!

    First time visit, went for the Thanksgiving Buffet, we are thinking we'll be there again next year. We were a little early for our table so we went to the bar for a drink while we waited. Our bartender Chris was so nice we decided to just have our meal there at the bar! Our timing was spot on as we had no wait for any of our trips through the line, a little later there were a couple of times the line was a bit long , but it moved fast. Lots of options for food from the traditional spread to local seafood and 2 dessert tables ! We enjoyed the entire experience.

    The best part of the experience is location. We ate lunch on a porch overlooking the ocean. The food was barely OK (fish and chips a bit to oily) Service was OK. I stayed in the hotel and arrived just before lunch which justify my selection of the place. If you have a bit more time you can find much better places in Virginia Beach

    My brother and his fiancee are searching for wedding venues. I took the family here for brunch so they could check out the space. It was one of the ones my wife and I considered for our wedding and reception. In this particular morning, they were just off. The buffet was nothing special, the server forgot to bring milk for my wife's coffee, there were no spoons readily available. To top it off, the cup that my mother's coffee came in had crusted food stuck to the inside, which she didn't discover until 2/3 through drinking it. I've been here before and it's usually really good so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, it was a bad first impression on my family and I doubt any of them will be back - weeding, brunch or otherwise.

    My family and I had dinner at the Surf Club for my Mom's birthday in March. We have always enjoyed dining here, especially in past years with my Grandpa, God rest his soul. I received a voicemail from an employee regarding my reservation request: to sit in a round booth over looking the ocean at sunset. The young man said that the round booths were no longer set-up to overlook the ocean and that the sun does not set over the ocean...okay then. When we arrived, there were only two other tables having dinner, so we got to choose the table by the window overlooking the ocean that we preferred, great! When we asked for a drink menu, our server told us that they don't really have one for cocktails, but they have a full bar and can make anything, so my mom and I ordered Bellini Martinis. They were delicious!! The sunset provided an great ambiance with a beautifully colored sky, from our view on the ocean side that is. All of our meals came out together, they were hot, aesthetically pleasing to look at, and wow were they delicious! I don't even think I took home a doggy bag! Both my Mom, Dad & I were thoroughly please with the experience. The manager was lovely and pleasant when he checked on our table and chatted with us for a few. I would definitely recommend this little gem under the Wyndham to anyone. Cheers!

    The Surf Club is in the Wyndham Hotel on Atlantic Avenue at 57th Street. That's about 17 blocks north of the end of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. So, is it worth the trip? If you're a vacationer staying on the Boardwalk, then "no;" you already have the view and several good restaurants within blocks. If you're staying at the Wyndham, then "yes;" it's convenient, with the Ocean view, but the food is just OK, not great. On the other hand, when they have live music on the Patio, it's a nice place to sit and have a drink - check the Happy Hour deals.

    We came here the night before the Shamrock Half Marathon because they were offering an all-you-can pasta buffet for runners. The place was crowded with other runners, but we got right in because we had made reservations first. We got a table with an ocean view, and it was wonderful. Our server took a little while to get our drink orders, but it was understandable considering how busy it was. They had 3 kinds of pasta to choose from, along with salad, marinara and alfredo sauces, garlic bread, and even grilled chicken to add to your meal. Definitely a great deal for only $15 a person, and I would highly recommend.

    We were in town for the Shamrock Marathon Weekend. The restaurant was listed as a recommended spot by the racing organization, so I made a reservation for my family for the night before the race. There was a great deal of traffic, so I called to say we would be running late. I was told by the person who answered the phone that my reservation would not be guaranteed as they were very busy. Overall the woman who answered the phone was quite rude about it and didn't take my name to note whose reservation I was calling about. When we arrived (@ 6:13) we were told "Oh your table is wide open. " The restaurant seemed busy, but was also not completely full either. After being sat, we waited TWENTY minutes for water. We waited another ten to have our order taken, and another THIRTY to get our food. And the waiter got the order wrong. We were given several different excuses for all the mess ups. Overall it was a disappointing experience and I wish we had gone somewhere else when we talked to the rude person on the phone in the beginning.

    We had Thanksgiving here, and their buffet was the best we have found. The turkey and prime rib were outstanding. The oyster dressing and array of vegetables were excellent. We came back for dinner, and enjoyed the seafood platter. They serve plenty of fresh food. Our server Kip took very good care of us. They are located in the Wyndham.

    We were starved, decided to eat early. Well, we hit the wrong time. All the events people came at the same time. Although we had a reservation and were promised over the phone a good table with an ocean view, while we were telling who we thought was the person seating that we had a reservation, two non reservation couples jumped ahead of us, the real hostess returned, and the other couples got the last two tables looking at the ocean. The waitress did a good job but was obviously overworked at the influx of people at once. The Caesar salads were great, as were the crab cakes and steak. It was obviously some were not as pleased as we were with their food but ours was good. We would certainly go back again.

    As a member of a group of best friends, we always like to find things to do together for what we call: "ThirstyThursday." Well, we've definitely found what we will be doing on the third Thursday of the month at Surf Club Ocean Grille. Not only was the wine tasting extremely affordable, the outside venue in front of the Atlantic Ocean and the knowledge of Hank the Wine Guy added so much value to this outing. The food disappeared quite quickly, though, so maybe a bit more of the hot item being served would be appreciated. Other than that, this was awesome!

    overall a fair experience. food was good, however service was sporadic and disorganized. music was brought inside due to the weather and it was LOUD! Would not go back due to service and noise factor.

    We took our friends here for a birthday dinner. We sat in the back corner near the glass for a view of the ocean. There were dead flies all over the window ledge, and we had to mention this to the staff for them to clean it up. We also had approx 8 flies buzzing around our food/table all night...disgusting ambience! The service was poor, as we believe the lady was either new or had too many tables. She would disappear for 20 minutes at a time...even after ordering drinks. The food was good, but the overall experience was not acceptable. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back to this place. We don't recommend this restaurant.

    This was our first visit to this restaurant and will probably be our last. Our appetizer was the calamari which was a little tough. My crab cake was full of crab but was lacking in flavor. My husband's stuffed flounder was dry. There was a 3-piece band playing but it was too loud for us to carry on a dinner conversation. This restaurant looks out onto the beach which was a plus.

    They claim it is the most elegant seafood restaurant in VA beach, but in no way is that accurate. The decor is dated, and the dining room was full of flies. If I see every table swatting at them, that's a problem. The servers were very disinterested in the customers. It makes you appreciate a restaurant who's staff is personable and engaging. The food itself was equally disappointing. The raw oysters were improperly shucked and they left a butchered oyster crab in one. The entrees were alright, but the presentation was lacking, sprinkling a ton of parsley on the plate doesn't make it elegant. I wouldn't waste a vacation dinner on this place. Many better options in VA beach.

    Quick trip to Va Beach with my wife. Discovered restaurant on Open Table. Great ocean front location and as we were dining fairly late had a waterfront table. Service was prompt and friendly. Salmon cooked to order and tasty. My wife's seafood pasta with chorizo was also a hit. Excellent dining experience for these first time visitors.

    I reserved to dine here for my husband's birthday. They never acknowledged any of the special requests I put in my reservation memo on opentable which was the first pitfall. So I was over that because the venue was the perfect ocean view. Service was average and friendly. The food was subpar, especially for the price you would expect more. We orderd the calamari and shrimp to start and it was extremely salty. We ordered steak and snow crab legs for our entrees. The steak was ridden with fat and was bland. The crab legs were standard. For desert we orderd apple upside down cake which actually was very tasty. Overall I wouldn't go back and pay such high price for a subpar meal. But I would go to have a cocktail to watch sunset.

    We choose this restaurant because we have been once before and it was good. I got the stuffed flounder roulade and it was inedible. It was so overcooked that the flounder was actually hard and very dry. The stuffing was not flavorful. I had the waiter remove. He did come back and did not charge for the meal but that was not the point. Yes, I agree since I could not eat it that we should not be charged. Would have much rather had it delicious and edible. When you pay that price for a meal you expect delicious food. We also got the seafood dip appetizer and it was just ok. Flavoring is a big factor and we did not experience that at all. My husband had the rib eye. He said it was very tender, however has had much better on our grill.

    enjoyed their visit to Surf Club Ocean Grille. The staff bent over backwards to accommodate our every need. We were 13 strong with 'old lady' preferences. We were taken care of swiftly and warmly. My personal opinion is that the food has dropped several levels since the last time I visited and had dinner there. That evening many months ago the food reached a 4-star level.
