Fresh fish and selection that is unique from Japan. Quality of the food is very good and service is excellent.
The miso soup, tofu, sablefish and the sushi dinner were all excellent. Service was friendly but a bit rushed.
First time to Canada. Great meal and the staff was amazing. Giving great coffee and dinner recommendations.
Speed of food coming out for lunchtime was extremely slow. Service was pretty good as far as tea and water. But it took 1/2 hour to get one of five orders. People who came in after us had wine and gyoza before we’d even been asked for our order. People crammed in so it’s difficult to move between tables, to get to your table. Not great when you have an hour for lunch. Overall not very happy with the experience, or the food. Cost of lunch for two, no alcohol was $77. Kudos for packing up the leftovers. The ginger and wasabi was added and four packs of soy sauce. My husband didn’t care for the take out though. And he’s not that fussy when it comes to sushi. Enuff said.
Someone called me prior to my reservation to confirm and let me know about parking which was very helpful. Sushi was delicious and the matcha margarita was amazing. It’s on the small side and if we hadn’t made reservations we probably wouldn’t have gotten to eat.
Food was delicious, however service was disappointing. It took forever for someone to come and take our order and then a long wait for food. When our food finally did arrive there was no pacing to it, miso soup came out at the same time as appetizers, sashimi and rolls, no breaks or time to finish one thing first. Very disappointing given most restaurants will be more attentive to diners and control flow of orders to better suit a reasonable pace. By the time we finished our soup our appetizers were already getting cold. Staff seemed more focused on turning the table than the experience of the diners. I had just picked up a gyoza and was about to dip in the sauce when the bowl was quickly snatched away without asking if I was done with it. Drinks were neglected and no refills were offered. Busy night is not an excuse for poor service, any good restaurant would know to staff appropriately for a friday night to ensure positive customer service.
Again, the food was delicious, and I would revisit for a midday lunch. However if you are looking for a nice evening out and a great dining experience there are better options in Calgary.
We had an excellent dinner on Valentine's Day. The Suyaki hot pot was excellent and can't wait to order it again. DELISH.
Thanks Suyaki House
The food was great. Staff were great also but caught off guard with a busy rush at 6pm on a Saturday and so the service really suffered. Staff started bringing us items and not making eye contact as they had no time to stop and ask us if we needed anything. But really, the food was so excellent and we'd go back.
Once again! The food and service were second to none.
Thank you for the continued 5 star service.
Best Japanese in Calgary! High quality sushi and the agadashi tofu is a must. If you are celebrating a special occasion, speak with the staff about arranging a special dish.
Great place to go if you want to do sushi downtown on a date night. The restaurant is relaxed and welcoming, perfect for those looking for something between upscale and casual. Staff is knowledgeable about pairing sake with dishes, and the food is fresh. The way they coursed out what we ordered was just right; they kept watch, making sure we could appreciate everything in good time and not at once or at too widely spaced intervals. No frills, no fuss, just good food and service. We did have to wait a little longer than usual for the chocolate soufflé but we didn't mind. They explained that they had run out of their usual servings but whipped something up for us and it was great. Definitely will be back.
Judith is so great! If you are feeling under the weather this winter, the hot pot here will fix you right up.
Love this restaurant!!! The food is consistently very good and the service is great. Judith is an outstanding server!!
Excellent services, very friendly staff. Food was amazing the sushi practically melts in your mouth. A must if you like Japanese food.
Very good food and would certainly recommend. Is a little more pricey than most sushi restaurants but a great experience non the less.........would go back again! Nice friendly staff which is also a great attribute!
Excellent food, service and ambience.
Really enjoyed it.
Always dine at Sukiyaki House for Special Occasions.
Great service. Love their dessert. Fish is quite fresh.
Sushi was so delicious and well presented. Kids friendly and servers were well trained. Definitely going back.
Best sushi in Calgary! Excellent quality and reasonable prices for this caliber. My favourite sushi place ever
Amazing as always. Always unique ingredients you can’t get at other sushi restaurants in the city.
Birthdsy. The initial server. A younger guy, a little forgetful. But the main lady, who usually serves us, was great.
Overall was good; food was really good (had the bento with salmon), however, the service was horrendously slow. It took 45 minutes just to get our miso soup. Lunch took an hour and a half and it was not close to full. Most people don't have that much time for lunch so I'm not sure what happened with our order. Value for the money was fair. We prefer Koto downtown for value, food quality and service.
Some of the best Japanese in Calgary. Outstanding service, tasty sushi and the assorted Tempura and Gyoza are must order. Great for lunch and dinner...lots of energy and noise. Tables are tight and make for intimate dining with fellow patrons.
The service was slow (our lunch took two hours by the time the last food came), our main didn’t come together and there were 4 of us and the noise level was high.
Brought a friend back to Sukiyaki that hadn't been in a long time. Always greeted with smiling faces and a warm feeling of family here. Food was outstanding, treated to Hokkaido Uni as it was fresh, and our favourite Chickem Karaage. Top 2 Sushi restaurants in Calgary.
Most times when I eat out, I rarely feel I got my money's worth. That was not the case here. The food was exquisitely prepared, tasty and artistically presented. The service was exceptional. I'm not even particularly a fan of Japanese cuisine, but this place is on a short (very short) list of restaurants that I would go back to. Kudo's to the owners, chef and staff for a great operation.
Lunch Bento Box was delicious and filling. Was a bit pricey and an automatic tip of 18% is added for 6+ people.
We had the chef just "feed us". The spicy shrimp were so good and the mussel broth was delicious. The sashimi was melt in your mouth fresh and the rolls were so good. Sukiyaki House is one of my favourite places to eat in Calgary.
This place is delicious. Everything we ate was really well prepared and very fresh! The spicy mayo is incredible. They did an excellent job accommodating for my Celiac Disease. It's a little loud at lunch time.
People don't know what they are missing if they don't try sukiyaki. This place does it properly, at the table. Give it a try!
Caught up with a friend at the Sukiyaki House. The food was fresh and tasty. The service was excellent as they didn’t hover but knew when to refill our drinks and attend to the table. Highly recommend it.
Delicious, good staff
Food delivery was super slow
Lunches at Sukiyaki House are always the break I need for my day. Greeted by Judith, Justin and Anna we always are treated like family here. Koji and his team are the most talented sushi artists in the city. Consistency, client focused service and always striving to be better. this is why we come back. thanks Sukiyaki House.
Group lunch for work. Great meal. Great service. Reasonable price (a little over $30/person).
It is loud in there but we were still able to communicate across the table.
Excellent sushi! Servers were very attentive and accommodating. Would definitely return in the future!
Congratulations Anna, Judith and Justin on being named an OpenTable top 100 restaurant again. Well deserved!
Came for lunch with a colleague. We loved it, edamame could have been a bit more seasoned, however everything else was great. We left saying that we would for sure be back.
Food and service was very good. Carpaccio came out looking like a piece of art. Sake knowledge was great and food was fresh and came out in a timely manner.
The only thing I can say is the lack of interior design is apparent and I hope they redo the interior someday so I could feel the entire creative experience, not just the food.
