We went here for our 2 year engagement anniversary. We loved the meatball appetizer. They were out of the bottle of wine that we wanted, but they let us have a similar bottle for the same price. We like to keep the corks as a keepsake for special occasions, but they threw it away without asking us if we wanted it. The food was great. We had a great time. Nothing special was done even though we made a reservation and told them it was our anniversary.
Great meal! Exceptional service and our meal was over the top. 😊
The food was good but too loud and cramped inside.
We sat outside to enjoy one of the last warm weekends in Boston. Drinks were disappointing. Ultimately decided to keep it simple, chose prosecco, it was flat. The buratta and honey was the star of the meal. Best buratta I've had, ever. The octopus was delicious as well. The pasta dishes were quite rubbery in texture and the chicken marsala had a rubbery consistency to it. Had always looked forward to eating here but am sadly disappointed. At least it wasn't too expensive to learn this lesson.
Seated us one hour after reservation. Hostess rude and borderline hostile when asking for updates on our table
The food was good, but wasn’t great. The location was awesome and it was fun to sit outside, however, the server was quite rude and unfriendly.
Food was awesome! We ate outside. Strolling musician. Our waiter was AMAZING!
Alla Vodka was cold, tasted only of Vodka and was a curdled mushy mess. Nearly inedible. The Limoncello with chicken had great flavor, but the chicken was dry and tough. Service was good. Loud music was distracting. Cozy setting was a plus.
Don’t even know where to start. We ordered a bottle for the table which was overly sweet, very cheap! Ordered appetizers (Calamari & burrata) Calamari wasn’t too bad but needed salt and some lemon. When I asked our server he seemed upset, took it more of an insult which he should have. The burrata was tasteless, underneath had some sort of Mayo aioli sauce & an avocado type sauce, never seen that before. So I thought maybe something different, horrible. They should have stuck to a balsamic glaze, maybe a fruit paired with it. The prosciutto was thick and very dried out. We were just hoping they didn’t mess up the pasta. I ordered the ravioli in a plum cream sauce, husband ordered that’s amore, my cousin ordered fusilli with pancetta in a spicy cream sauce. First of all he poured oil all over my husbands vodka sauce, idk if that’s so he can get full off of oil instead of the actual meal but dealbreaker. Tasted horrible. My ravioli was not in a cream sauce, the sauce came from a can of hunts tomato sauce, I had one ravioli and had acid reflux all night. My cousin asked the server twice if that was her meal bc she didn’t get fusilli, or cream sauce or the pancetta. Our server didn’t help out, just kept saying that’s what you ordered. We asked for cheese to add some flavor bc it was just horrible, no crushed red pepper. The server knew we were not impressed. He didn’t come over once to ask how it was. Couldn’t fool us Italians, all the people in there they could fool bc they know no better but not me. That place was a literal joke to our weekend. I would never ever return or even give this food to my worst enemy.. and to know that we paid $192 for something i could have picked up at a grocery store sickens me. To any Italian person this is a smack in the face and to the owner/chef you should be ashamed of yourself. I could have gone to any Italian American chain and received better food. & TO CARLO our server who knew the whole time, theirs no fooling us you’re welcome!
Very accommodating of our order party. Food came quickly. Meals were
Recommended by locals but the food was lackluster and the service was long. Not attentive just long. I get it with staffing….but two servers working the outside tables avoiding your eye contact is frustrating.
There was one waiter for the entire inside of the restaurant. Totally understand staff shortages at this time, but the place was completely packed. The music was so loud I could barely here the rest of the table speak. We were celebrating a very special occasion and by the end of it, just wanted to get the check and leave - which took about 30 minutes. There’s plenty of quaint, great looking restaurants on this street. Go somewhere else.
The food was excellent. The service, not so great. We were seated promptly and the busboy/secondary server brought focaccia to our table right away. The service went downhill after that. The main server didn’t come to our table for several more minutes and not until after he took the order of another table that was seated at least 10-15 minutes after us and he saw we kept looking over. When he did come over he said “you guys look like you’re ready to order.” Maybe our empty focaccia basket and no drinks on the table should’ve been a sign we were ready to order. Our food came out and was delicious - both the appetizers and entrees - although no one came over to offer me grated cheese for my pasta, but they did offer it to the other table (the same one mentioned earlier). After we finished our entrees, the server again went to the other table first and asked them if they wanted dessert. When he brought them their dessert he came over and . . . brought us our check - never asked us if we wanted to order dessert. I’m not sure if this guy was having an “off” night or if he’s just not a good server. I would recommend Strega because the food was very good, but would warn patrons that the service may not be great.
We were seated right away, according to our reservation, and our waiter was friendly and attentive. The good was timely and delicious. The four of us shared dishes - osso bucco, That's Amore, octopus, and pumpkin ravioli. We highly recommend all of those!
Great Italian food. Willing to accommodate special requests/changes to the menu items. Lively, fun server. I do not like Italian food prepared with heavy garlic. Strega excels at flavorful Italian food rather than killing everything with garlic. I recommend Strega!
The food took literally HOURS to come, and the server is a 40 years old dude who ignore all our requests and only tried to flirt with my friend.
Tiny space with overcrowded table placement. Music so loud you need to YELL to hear the person directly across from you. Service was inconsistent, food was cold and bland.
I will not go there because of bad service and unwelcome
Honestly the food was mediocre, and the service was terrible. My appetizer plate and water cup were both dirty with remains from the previous person. You would think clean dishes is the bare minimum at a nice restaurant. The server was rude and didn’t bring us new plates. Not to mention my pasta was ice cold when it was served. Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant, there’s way better places in the north end.
Had a reservation and had to wait an additional hour after our reservation time. Our server was not attentive or friendly and made the experience not great. The busboy was fantastic and helped us get everything we needed.
Subpar service and they wouldn’t let us sit until every person in the party was present which is a pet peeve of mine. They could have let us sit and order apps and drinks but instead made us stand on the street which is a disservice to them.
I wouldn’t go back again . The food was cold, service was very poor and far too little value to ever go back. Too many better restaurants on Hanover St to put up with the poor service.
Great food great service will be back next time we r in boston
Very fun atmosphere, laid back with tv’s to watch sports. Food was delicious, service was excellent and attentive.
Take your parents to DJ brunch they’ll love it…if they’re cool😝
Music was to loud. Service was awful. Food was bland. Loved Strega, what happened? I can understand the service as its hard to get employees. I think they should stick to inside dining only because obviously they can't handle the numbers. I've been going to Strega for years and was very disappointed. The meatball was good. Never had a chance for dessert as instead of a menu, which we asked for, we got our bill and 3 to go boxes because we couldn't tolerate our food.
I hate wine lists that list vintages by year and then have a disclaimer at the bottom that substitutions are possible. A 2017 Barolo is not the same as a 2014 Barolo in 2021. Everything else was great but this is unacceptable.
Waited 45 minutes from our reservation time to get a table (1 hour total). Poor service once we were seated
A - MAZE- ING made a reservation on open table and it only got better from there. This is a five star experience. From the smiling hostess to the doting waiters. Carlos was fun energetic and loving his job. He went above and beyond to make sure our dinner was spectacular! Specifically choose this restaurant for their dish That’s Amore’ a vodka pasta prepared tableside in a wheel of Parmesan. You must get this dish! the meatball appetizer, burratta and calamari were a perfect start. we were a party of four no one was disappointed. Smiles and happy bellies all around. A must experience in the Northend restaurant scene
I love this restaurant, but it’s frustrating that we had wait an hour to be seated despite having a reservation. Other than that, food was amazing, but the service was a little disorganized and chaotic.
Second time to Strega and the food was consistently amazing. Meatball app was great. Veal Piccata was good as well.
Always a home run when in the North End. Food is great and waiters are attentive. Must make a reservation or you will be waiting a while.
Worth every penny
This is my favorite restaurant in the world so I was so excited to take my family from out of town here. Unfortunately, they sat us outside next to the street even though I requested a table inside when I made the reservation weeks in advance. I really don't ever want to speak poorly about customer service but the hostess was so demeaning and rude when I asked if we could be seated inside. She told us we could "leave" if we didn't like the outdoor option. The waiter was terrific and the food was great but for a $600 meal... I would've liked the option to sit inside as planned or at least would've hoped for a more polite response from the hostess that didn't put a damper on my group's attitude. Will probably just go to the Seaport location next time.
They were shooting some tv commercial or something so seating was 45min late from
Food was amazing! Our server was very attentive. It was a gorgeous Friday evening so the crowds were a bit lively/noisy. I would totally recommend this restaurant!
Fantastic food and impeccable service at the North End’s premier dining experience.
Always a crowd pleaser for locals and out of town visitors. We tried a few apps and main dishes. Everything was excellent.
A let down from the start - two of the four glasses smelled and were smudged with oil or something. The coke was watered down. The bread was mediocre and, when we agreed to have additional bread it was never brought. The waitstaff asked once if we needed anything - all other times they needed to be flagged down. The person making the pasta in the Parmesan wheel sighed through the time the pasta was being prepared. The sauce, while appearing to be authentic, tasted like vodka sauce out of a bottle. The music was playing so loudly we had almost yell across a four person table.
Highlights: beef carpaccio and fried calamari.
Unfortunately, the food and service was significantly less than what was expected and we will not go back or refer anyone there.
Our experience for such a highly spoken restaurant was underwhelming to say the least. The server was borderline rude, rushed us to order, and didn’t introduce himself. We were sat outside which was nice until we realized there was trash throughout the shrubs that were right at food/dining level. The food itself was decent but compared to other locations in the North End was mediocre. Unfortunately, it was not the great experience that it was rumored to be.
