Always a crowd pleaser for locals and out of town visitors. We tried a few apps and main dishes. Everything was excellent.
A let down from the start - two of the four glasses smelled and were smudged with oil or something. The coke was watered down. The bread was mediocre and, when we agreed to have additional bread it was never brought. The waitstaff asked once if we needed anything - all other times they needed to be flagged down. The person making the pasta in the Parmesan wheel sighed through the time the pasta was being prepared. The sauce, while appearing to be authentic, tasted like vodka sauce out of a bottle. The music was playing so loudly we had almost yell across a four person table.
Highlights: beef carpaccio and fried calamari.
Unfortunately, the food and service was significantly less than what was expected and we will not go back or refer anyone there.
Our experience for such a highly spoken restaurant was underwhelming to say the least. The server was borderline rude, rushed us to order, and didn’t introduce himself. We were sat outside which was nice until we realized there was trash throughout the shrubs that were right at food/dining level. The food itself was decent but compared to other locations in the North End was mediocre. Unfortunately, it was not the great experience that it was rumored to be.
The server was friendly, the menu was creative, and the drinks were very well put together, from the cappuccino to the aperol spritz! Highly recommend the tenderloin Benedetto and the brunch bolognese!
Disappointed with the new menu
Outstanding in every way. We sat inside and guests were well-spaced. Service was attentive and the pasta dishes were excellent! Highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful service! Went for a birthday and they made it extra special!
Extremely friendly staff who went above and beyond to make our experience enjoyable. We were disappointed to learn that the table side cheese wheel pasta could not be done while we were dining outside. However, the staff made this up to us by letting us come inside to watch our pasta get tossed in the cheese wheel and put on an entire party for the restaurant while they did so! All of the food was extremely delicious as well.
Even on a slow night the service was terrible. Food was mediocre and over priced.
Great food. Lively place. Just make sure they do not seat you anywhere near the restrooms or you will smell them the entire dinner.
We normally go to Strega week nights. This time we went on a Saturday. The food was not up to Strega standards this past Sat night. Usually, they have the best food in the North End. Service was great as usual. My guess is this was a one-off situation. We will certainly go back.
Tasteless food, bad service.Overpriced. I wouldn’t return.
I’ve been going to strega for several years now. I do not live in MA, but came across the restaurant and fell in love during a visit. So much so, that I make it a point to visit Boston primarily for strega. I have not been since 2019, but when I made it back over the weekend, I noticed that things have drastically changed.
Firstly, the atmosphere. Previously, it was a classier setting with the Italian classic movies looping on the screens. Classic music playing. A calm setting. Now, upbeat music is played rather loudly, there is a new flashy sign on the exterior which immediately caught my eye, and the food quality is also different; not for the best.
As I noticed the visual changes, I was nervous that the food may have taken a change, too. It did. The burrata was served completely different than before. Previously there was a platter with prosciutto, cheese, fresh tomatoes, etc, but this time it came on a plate with a very different presentation in addition to an ambiguous orange and green sauce. The flavor was not enjoyable.
I was getting even more nervous after I ordered my entree — the strega fettuccine. This is the pinnacle of dishes at Strega and the flavor, noodle quality, seafood has been something that I have not found elsewhere in all of my travels. This very dish would have me taking flights to Boston. However, after the other differences I picked up on, I had a feeling it too, would be different. I was right :(
The sauce was not the same. And that was the main attraction of this dish. The noodles were over cooked. The quality took a major hit. It truly made me sad. What a perfect dish the Strega fettuccine was, and for it to be compromised is truly unfortunate.
I am not sure what the catalyst for change was at strega, however if you could please revert back to your previous recipes, I can confirm your patrons would be pleased. Taste differences are noticed.
The staff is extremely kind and pleasant. Always a pleasure and this has not changed.
Delicious authentic food in an entertaining atmosphere
Never a disappointing meal at Strega with everything always being perfect for the atmosphere to service through the meal. Strega is our favorite North End restaurant.
Our waiter was not very attentive. The food was just okay. Unfortunately not my favorite restaurant in the North End.
The meatballs are excellent.
The service is outstanding.
It's always enjoyable to eat at the Hanover Street spot
Arrived at 8:30 on time for our reservation, was told to wait for next available table… twenty minutes later with no updates and people piling up outside we left for Artu. Reservations are not reservations here, nothing is “reserved” it’s all just overbooked. Very poor service.
My boyfriend and I ate dinner here to celebrate moving into our first apartment together. The food and service was excellent. We will definitely return!
Bad job on the reservation, arrived at 8:10 for 8:15 reservation. Clearly overbooked and way behind. They blamed it on the rain. But empty tables inside being held for others for over a 1/2 hr. Buy some more umbrellas many tables without and enforce time on reservations and table turn
To start, when we first got there the reservation was for 8:15, we chose indoor seating. The hostess tells me its first come first serve outside/inside. It started to rain, she tells me a few minutes for outside but an hour for inside, remember our reservation was for 8:15. With a straight face, she says tables are clearing out outside, one will open up, its raining why would i want to sit outside and not under an umbrella. The manager came over, handle it well, got us a seat inside they made. Chairs came from outside still wet. The server was horrible. It took him 20 minutes to come over, no bread, no apology. We asked him about the pizza and he said uncooked tenderloin, so I said we didn’t want it, we got two other things to share. When the food came, he brought the pizza. He never came back to check on the food, to give salt/pepper or cheese. We go to the north end all the time, this was the worst service, worst food & ill make sure everyone knows it. I am in the service industry myself, that was a disgrace. I told him how bad it was, he just shook his head & walked away. Never go to strega north end, but definitely go to trattoria el panino
We had a lovely al fresco experience for my friends birthday! E we were sat early outside, had a great server, and the food was DELICIOUS!
Waited an hour to be seated after our reservation time. Servers didn’t care, food was ok. Not impressed
Dinner with family
Music was on point! Hostess was professional even under stress if weather- server great- food amazing.
Awesome! Amazing food and drinks. They also played awesome movies!
First time here for brunch and it was amazing. I started off with the special of the day frozen peach! My boyfriend started off with a mimosa. I got the steak and eggs with home fries - everything was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles and they were delicious!! We also got a side of their homemade sausage, which was great as well.
Amazing food, location, and service
The restaurant was extremely busy, playing music so loud, but literally could not talk to anybody. We had to move outside, so not to hurt our ears. The food was delicious, the staff was very friendly, but clearly overwhelmed.
It was a great place to celebrate my birthday!!!
It was a good food was good waiter was nice and quick only thing even with reservations had to a extra 15 mind
Just like all the other reviews- the food is EH & having a reservation means nothing since indoor & outdoor are first come first serve. Of course the drink tree situation is fun but the drinks themselves were not quality/ all tasted off. The food was so mediocre not worth the price- worst French toast I’ve ever had (so dry), the breakfast pizza & avo toast were better so if you go I recommend those!
Meal was fabulous!!! The slushees were delicious and the pasta made in the cheese wheel was fun to watch and delicious to eat!!
The beautiful interior is one reason we chose to dine here!We dined outside and had the huge meatball w/ricotta which was a meal in itself..I had the homemade tiramisu with espresso to round off the meal..delicious!
Menu has changed some of our favorite dishes not offered
drink tower is the only thing necessary for a good time. food was incredible, staff friendly, drinks amazing.
We ordered the meatball and the eggplant appetizers which were prepared correctly and arrived quickly but everything broke down from there. The service was very slow, our waiter was dancing with the 20 something year old group of 6 behind us and our meal order was not taken until 60 minutes into our arrival. My risotto di mare was a severely underdone crunchy tomato risotto with steam shellfish scattered across the top and my wife’s osobucco was bland but thankfully not dry. It took 20 minutes to get the check on completion of the meal and our guest left after experiencing 2 hours of this ordeal - the check arrived 15 minutes after he left. The 5 year old child sitting next to our table was crying because the music was too loud and was hurting her ears - I also had to plug my ears with my fingers for 5 minutes to stop the ringing as I could not attract the waiters attention to have the music turned down. Apparently the group of young women enjoyed themselves - but I would not classify this establishment as a restaurant any longer. It’s a horrible shame - we have dined here often when in Boston and have incredible memories of great food and wonderful discussions with friends but neither appear to be on the menu any longer.
Everything was good or better. We did have a reservation for a high top but when we showed we were told it would be 45 mins for anything other than bar seating, not a huge deal for us.
With all the choices in north end I’d advise you pick a different restaurant. One meal was marginal, the other excellent. Our server was not at all attentive, RUDE, and a half hour after we finished the meal we had to go find somebody to get our bill and pay. Really?
Went to Strega after seeing the mimosa tower on Tik Tok. The brunch menu also looked very appetizing. However, our service was subpar with the waitress being very rude and unattentive to us. The food was decent, but the portions are extremely small and not worth the price.
