Absolutely loved this place! Service and food was impeccable!!
Music was way too loud. I have been in dance clubs that were quieter.
Food was mixed….steaks were good while ravioli and lasagna were bland and not very good.
Definitely not worth the money!
I was somewhat disappointed with Strega. A dear friend recommended it to us so we gave it a try. Most importantly, our waitress Vanessa was EXCELLENT. We ordered a meatball appetizer and eggplant / ricotta appetizer. Both were good…nothing extraordinary, but good.
My wife ordered a Sea Bass over a potato gnocchi and I ordered a filet mignon medium rare. I asked them to split the entrees into a surf n turf on each plate.
Vanessa said no problem and it soon came out as ordered. The fish was outstanding….the filet….terrible. Split into two, over cooked, and tough. Tasted like a bad hunk of sirloin.
When the busboy came over to clear plates, I told him to please let the Chef know the fish was excellent…but…the filet was a terrible disappointment….tough etc….he said, “ oh sorry, I will let him know”…Vanessa our waitress came over and after I told her the same she said, “ Oh you should have said something right away”…I told her it wasn’t a problem and please all I wanted was for her to let the Chef know……I do know in these post Covid times, MANY of the best steakhouses had to freeze fresh meats because it was difficult to order fresh and estimate use for the week. MANY steaks have that seared/over cooked interior you get from a frozen piece of meat….and I think that was the case here…a $15piece of meat for $46…..
The REAL disappointment was this………I am used to eating in some of the BEST restaurants in NY….when I ask someone to let them chef know his dish was “ off”, it is usually followed by a visit to my table from the chef wanting to hear it directly from me to discuss……STREGA chef…..a NO SHOW. That disappointed me most of all……seems like the chef could care less……Bad Business Practice……….sorry STREGA…BUT arrividerci!
We went to Strega for my birthday dinner. Nice cocktails even if they don’t have full bar service. Didn’t make any sense I had a cucumber vodka cocktail but they couldn’t make a martini. We ordered calamari for an appetizer, it was ok. I ordered a seafood risotto it was awful. The seafood was over cooked and the risotto was just bad. We sat at the bar. The bartender never asked me how my dinner was. My husband had chicken Marsala and it was good. Not great chicken was a little dry. We will not be back.
Very loud waited in the rain for over 10 min with reservation, packed in noisy not high end in my opinion food was great so was server
Loved it! Gianni was great!
Overbooked, waited 30 mins after reservation time in the rain, two spoiled bottles of wine, food was terrible.
We snagged a late afternoon reservation at Strega after our previous plans fell through. The entire north end was packed - on the streets, in the restaurants, even a parade going on! The Italy vs England soccer game was on. We enjoyed our food at a leisurely pace and enjoyed watching as soccer fans from all over cheered and gasped as they lingered on the sidewalks, trying to glimpse the game on any bar tv. We had a lot of fun.
Food was AMAZING and came out pretty fast! Restaurant was understaffed, so service was not up to par. I’m not sure our server was sober either. Overall great experience! The lamb chops were the best!
We had a reservation and then had to wait another 30 minutes to be seated. Really threw the experience off. The food was average at best. Would not recommend.
Great place very Live and Loud , Cesar salad not good but the rest of our food was fantastic. Definitely enjoyed it
Wouldn’t go again , much better options in North End or even in the Suburbs.
Visiting from New Orleans, so we naturally have a high expectation for good food. This was the best Italian we have ever had. Will absolutely be back next time we are in town.
We went here for my birthday and the service was horrible. We booked a table indoors to avoid the heat and we’re seated outside. The waiter did not refill our waters so we had to ask
Multiple times. The pasta I ordered came out cold so I had to send it back. Overall I would not recommend going here at all.
It was super loud with a party song played when someone orders the pasta special.
Had another memorable experience at Strega! Great service, amazing cuisine. Always a home run for our fam!
Amazing vibe with the table side vodka pasta(That’s Amore) and fantastic service!
Music a bit loud and servers overburdened
Terrible service experience, tables around us got visited multiple times from the same server while we did not. Had the sea bass… save yourself the money; Tasted like wet fish in dirty water.
Strega has a great rep and I had been wanting to try it out! I wouldn’t say it’s outstanding. They brought out the appetizer after our meal got to us, seemingly they forgot about it and still charged us for it and didn’t address the mistake, either. 4 of us dined, I tried all 4 pasta dishes we each got - some really good, others not anything to write home about. They have traditional authentic Italian dishes on their menu but the execution of the actual meal is just sub par. The ambiance however is very good, great location. Anyway, I can see why a non italian would like it.
server rushed us through the meal and was not very friendly to our party
Absolute classic. Loved it. Don’t expect anything crazy but be ready for great food and good drinks.
Sat us 35 minutes late for our reservation. Our server was rude and brought me and charged me for the wrong drink. This was after i asked for a gin drink on the menu and he told me “they didn’t have a license for gin”, and when i walked over and asked the bartender she told me they had gin and there was a gin drink on the menu…. My girlfriend and I talked about leaving after that, and I wish we did.
The bolognese was very below average. The restaurant was extremely crowded, with people walking in off the street and taking shots with the manager, nobody wearing masks.
Just a terrible (and expensive) experience.
I’ve had better experiences here
Had a great meal outside, service was good, food was excellent. Great experience.
Terrific food great ambiance and great service! Can’t wait to go back!
Took my family to Strega by Nick Varano in the North End while my aunt was visiting from out of town. Strega has everything you could want, the best food, energetic staff, amazing mixture of people! You get more than just a night out but a whole experience! Never a dull moment!
We had been to Strega in Burlington and had mixed experiences but thought we would try the Boston location after being told by friends it was excellent. We were disappointed by the waiter who mumbled through dinner and by the poor preparation of the food. The salumi plate we ordered looked like something my grandma would throw together and the lamp chops were overcooked. Needless to say with so many other great choices in the North End we will not be back!
We had an entire glass of red wine spilt all over our table from the table behind us. The red wine splashed and ruined my fiancé’s shirt, splashed all over my bag, shoes and our child. The weather was a factor and we were good sports about it. I would have thought the staff would have been more sympathetic to the situation. I wasn’t expecting anything for free but I would have appreciated if it at least acknowledged by staff. They too concerned with turning with turning the table that they treated us like cattle. At a nice restaurant with expensive prices that is not the experience we hoped for when dining at Strega.
Worst service I have ever received. We had a reservation for 8. We waiting until 9:15 to be seated. Once seated our waiter forgot about for 20 minutes and we walked out. I have never posted a bad review in my life but this was brutal. I will never go back to this place.
Food could not have been better! Excellent food, as expected. Lobster a la vodka was amazing and my veal marsala was perfect and buttery. Decent wine by the glass list. My complaint...blaring music goes beyond "energetic"! It makes having conversation nearly impossible. The waiter kept pulling down his mask to be heard over the din. This was a great experience, and we would like to return, but the management needs to understand that loud music, especially during CoVid, makes speaking with masks impossible and creates a hazard. Otherwise, this was a great night out and it is especially nice that we could make reservations as the North End was packed as early as 5:15!
The food was amazing but my meal was wrong when it came to the table at first. I loved the bottle service for our champagne, which was amazing as well. They allowed me to eat the first meal that came out while I was waiting though which was accommodating since the rest of my party had their meals before mine.
We had a 7:15pm reservation and were told to stand outside for a short wait. We waited out in the cold weather until 8:30pm... we continuously asked for an update throughout the hour where we were told “it will be just a minute”. We were celebrating a birthday and told the host we would like to add something for desert... long behold after being rushed to eat our food, no desert for the table... instead the check. Food was great, service was horrendous.
The hostess was the only positive about this location. Otherwise, everything else was lacking and disappointing.
Waited an hour past our reservation time, thankfully the food didn’t take long and we were told the cheese wheel wasn’t being taken out but it got taken out 3 times while we were dining
Didn’t get seated until an hour after our reservation time but once we were seated it was great!
The food was good, service not so much. Waiter didn’t check on us once and our bill wasn’t cheap. There must have been some sort of birthday party next to us because people were standing right near us for half the meal. I never write reviews but I feel somewhat ripped off by this establishment. Not to mention we had a reservation for 8:30. Random people walked up and got seated ahead of us it felt like. Didn’t sit until after 9.
