Stories Fine Dining Establishment at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines
On your way into the steak house, you’ll pass through Kesselus Hall, named after local author and historian Ken Kesselus. The foyer’s floor-to-ceiling bookshelves are home to the works of dozens of Texas authors, where Stories gets it's name.
Friendly staff with excellent service. On a birthday we received a card from the staff and glasses of campaign at no cost. Nice touch! We shared some mushrooms and steak fries and ordered ribeye steaks. Both steaks were cooked to a perfect medium per my request. The cost is on the upper end but we knew that prior to making the reservation. We enjoyed the dinner very much.
My husband and I had a very romantic and gorgeous Valentine's Day evening at Stories restaurant. The staff was highly efficient and professional. The food was fresh and delicacy at its best. We are definitely returning to this fine place! :)

We went on New Year’s Eve, so the prices were jacked higher. The wait staff was very good and the food was delicious, but there were technical issues with the order system which delayed delivery of our food. Overall the Food was delicious, excellent service but very high priced meal and delivery of finished product was delayed
The food was good but the service was questionable. They made us feel rushed before we even sat down.
The shared duck confit appetizer was flavorful and delicious. My husband rated his beef tenderloin oscar five-star delicious. However, my seared scallop dish was lackluster and flavorless with everything but the scallops ill-prepared. It was an extreme disappointment. The noise level made it difficult to have a conversation with my husband, and as a result, the atmosphere was far from a fine dining experience. Recommendations from me would come with extreme reservations.
I don't know if this place has just recently opened and they still need to work the problems out but it was not a great experience, although it should have been. They have all the right stuff to make this a great dinning room. The problems.. My wife's filet was over cooked and so she sent it back, but the server said something about the chef being on break, or on down time? I still don't know what that meant. So they cooked her another smaller filet, probably a better cut but was still over done. You could see how one side cooked way longer than the other. My lamb was a tad over cooked..I'll take the blame for that as maybe I wasn't clear about how I like it. Or, more likely, maybe the server misunderstood our temperature preferences for both the beef and the lamb. The creamed spinach side, I believe, was a frozen product and jus horrible. Highlights.. The Wedge Salad was very good. The brie appetizer was acceptable. The wine list was pretty ok. We may have the opportunity to go back and try it agin as it is pretty much the only game in town
or hotel as it were. I'm just hoping they figure some things out.
The staff was super nice and very patient with our two 4 year olds (we did make them behave!). We were tired and left before dessert and they were so sweet and sent a dessert tray to our room.
This review is for Thanksgiving buffet. Seafood station was poor. Oysters low quality and warm. Same with stone crab. Shrimp good. We were last seating and they ran out of some of desserts and champagne. Kids did love chocolate fountain. Turkey was just hunked off bone...not a nice presentation. Green beans weren’t al dente...they were raw. One person was trying to keep up with salad table and it was impossible. They ran out of plates for a while. Out of some dressing and some toppings. Our server was inexperienced and needed guidance. It felt like Hyatt was in over their heads trying to serve so many people so many things.
We wish we had eaten in one of the other restaurants which we found to be excellent.
my only thing that I feel could be improved is to have all serving stations centered together with seating around all instead of opposite sides of the room and center.
This is the third time my family has dined at Lost Pines for Thanksgiving lunch. Much this year was the same... but noticeably different. Every year is cookie cutter. Same layout, same decorations etc. Staff is BEYOND AMAZING! The hostess Zara (it has been 2 days so maybe I am mixing up names now???) was so welcoming and friendly. Our waitress Yoly was just so lovely, pleasant and extremely attentive. She deserved an extra tip above the 25% built in charge. The meat and sides were pretty darn good. There were a couple of things they need to improve though. I mention this because it you are going to charge each patron $85/plate ($68+ 25% gratuity) .... it should be 5 star quality.
1) need more veggie options to go with meal. There was basically salad and green beans.
2) dinner rolls sitting in baskets at the serving line were cold to the touch.
3) The servers at the meat table were very nice but did not follow customers request. 3 different people in my party requested certain cuts and it was not followed the first time. So I went over there and took care of business. They were very accommodating but I told them they were just wasting meat because when someone requests breasts and you throw chunks of dark meat on their plate... that is not ok
4) Y'all desperately need to do better with the desserts. The EXACT same stuff last year was there this year. Which meant to me they were bought from elsewhere and dressed up. Very pretty but not that good. Not only were the strawberries not ripe at the chocolate fountain, they were green. The bite size pumpkin cake was dry. The tart shell to the lemon meringue was hard like it was straight out of the package. Your desserts need to meet the quality of your hot food buffet. Sometimes less is more.
We truly expected a 5 star experience, so our expectations were very high, this was our first time to have Thanksgiving at a resort, we saved for a year to have this experience. This meal cost 3 days of income for us. So this may be why our review is lacking. For your average client, it is probably a day in the park. However, here are a few suggestions to make this a better experience for our family. We were at one of the later seattings and the buffets were picked over and cluttered, the salad bar was good but was near empty. I recommend having the table set with enough flatware: at least 3 forks; salad, main course and dessert; real coffee cups at the table or have server bring you coffee for the dessert, water and tea glasses. Our center piece was filled with trash, so took away from the experience. Kids were running around everywhere, not a problem if you have kids, but very distracting for those of us who were childless. Perhaps shift the seating, reserve 1/2 the dining area for kids, the other 1/2 without. The smoked turkey and prime-were exceptional, you could cut them with a fork. The potatoes and stuffing were cold and difficult to get off the serving spoon, they tasted OK. Desserts were plentiful and had a great variety. I will say the live music was great and added to the atmosphere.
We were allotted 2 hours to eat Thanksgiving meal which was very good. We had 6 adults and 3 children. 2 of the children under 6, so they ate for free. Children’s buffet just right for them. A little pricey for a 7 year old. I think Thanksgiving buffet for child over 6 should be same as price at Firewheel.
Overall selection great for everybody! Probably only 4 of the 6 adults ate $68 worth of food
Remove the Band and play Christmas season music so people can talk without yelling. The dessert s need to be monitored better. After an hour or two it looked like they were ravaged by starving people. Totally mess.

Unremarkable experience with lots of regret on the way out the door. To much disappointment to describe here but I can't help but mention the no less than seven "trainiees" who slowly distroyed our "special occasion".
Impeccable service. Most delicious ribeye I’ve ever had.
Friendly wait service. Had the American Wagyu ribeye, underwhelmed. Good, but not great.
My wife and I had an early evening reservation, so the restaurant was fairly quite. It filled up as the evening progressed. Despite the warm temperature outside we elected to sit out on the second floor balcony. Stories has a nice Texas / wood ambiance with just the right lighting.
The wait staff was engaging and attentive. Our waitress was Toni. She has a great personality and knowledge of the menu.
Our steaks, both Filet and NY Strip were cooked to our liking and were flavorful. The appetizer selection was very good, as were the side dishes. There was an ample wine list, as well as any other adult beverage.
Stories is no longer living up to its previous reputation. We’ve dined here a few times each year over the last decade and came to expect the service and food quality to be on par with the menu prices. This is no longer the case. Austin has elevated dining experiences available to consumers and Stories no longer fits the “fine dining” category. Perry’s in the Domain, Bobs or even Paul Martin’s would be a better bet. If you’re in the mood for decent steak and you’re staying on site, it’s a better experience overall at Shellers downstairs.
It was our birthdays’. We had a good time. Sat out at the balcony and had a delicious dinner during a warm September night. Superb Bloody Mary and popping Italian white wine. The steak was superb! Nice time to go.
First time to visit Stories Restaurant at Hyatt Lost Pines Resort. It was our 25th wedding anniversary. Approaching the restaurant it is a little offsetting that the hostess station is located outside the closed doors. After being sat it took quite a bit of time to get water and then much longer to get our drinks.
Once our waitress was established things went smoothly. She was great, I think her name is April? Not real sure. Now to the food. . . My husband was intrigued with the ribeye steaks and the difference between the Wagyu Ribeye and the Angus Ribeye. Our waitress claimed that the Wagyu was more tender, more flavorful and just all over better steak. The steak was good but not what he was expecting. I ordered the Chef's Creation Sea Scallops. The plate looked wonderful. I have only had scallops a couple of times so not an expert with what is considered under or overcooked. I gave my husband half of one of my scallops and he could not eat it. He claimed they were undercooked. There was grit in the scallops as well. We sat outside and it was a beautiful evening. The whole experience was okay but not worth the price tag.

We chose Stories because it was the "fine dining" restaurant available. Celebrating our 30th anniversary, service was ok, although the dining area was lovely, very noisy with the open kitchen, food fair, nothing outstanding. Our server was a bit hard of hearing, I'm sure the noise level didnt help him, but service was slow and not attentive. Would not go back.
We love nice restaurants - and this was perhaps the finest experience we have had in many years. The meal was beyond delicious, and the entire experience was so much more than we expected. If it weren't so far for us to travel to, this would absolutely be our go-to celebration place.
Stories is always such a pleasure wether casual or occasion. Always make us feel special and appreciated. Very sophisticated staff and always such a great ambiance. Definitely cant wait to go back.
We had a nice birthday dinner for my husband here during a spa getaway. While I didn’t live the accompaniments with my scallops, the scallops themselves were amazing! The staff was friendly and they treated my husband with a nice birthday surprise.
Food was great but we had to wait for the hostess, then wait to be seated, then wait for water, then wait for waitress, then wait for wine then wait for bread. We had to wait way too long for every step of the experience. I almost left before we ordered wine because it had been so long since we had arrived. Maybe they let the 'captive audience at a resort' mentality go to their heads and take us for granted.
Our family finally got to spend quality time together, so we figured we would try this restaurant. Aside from the delicious baked brie and bread, we were extremely disappointed. We ordered the risotto, roasted chicken, and two orders of the salmon. Everything was from the Chef’s Creations side of the menu, but it was all horrible. The ingredients were all basic (and therefore inexpensive) and they overcharged for the quality we got. The risotto was the worst. It was mushy and the rice melted away before you could even bite into it. This is NOT risotto. Risotto has rice that is al-dente and it is not filled with vegetables. The chicken did not appear roasted and instead seemed air fried from how dry it was. The salmon was slimy and flimsy. At other fine dining restaurants we have gone to, the salmon is firm but flaky. When a restaurant markets itself as “fine dining” you expect everything to taste of the highest, most delicious quality. They say their steaks are fantastic, but since we didn’t get to try them, we can’t offer feedback on that. Hopefully it lives up to the claims for other guests.

We enjoy Stories several times a year when time and schedule permits. It is a little expensive, but we enjoy the place. For the past four years or so we have made a point of dining there on Independence Day. After dinner we watch the fireworks display. They have a wonderful display at the resort.
We celebrated our children’s 7th birthday here. The staff went above and beyond to make the evening extra special. Food, service and special cake prepared by the pastry chef were outstanding. Will definitely return.
Food was absolutely amazing, but unfortunately the service needs to improve. Our waiter was very on top of it at the beginning almost annoyingly. But then at the end we could never find him. Also my credit card was charged the wrong amount in my favor, but I had to go find the manager to get it corrected because the waiter dropped and ran and never returned.
