I am sympathetic with the restaurants getting back into the groove and getting staff on board, however, I DO NOT recommend you go to Stone Brewing for at least a few months. I will probably yelp a long review, I will keep it simple here. Ordering is on your phone, not user friendly. No confirmation your order is placed. NO WAIT STAFF at all. Bus people bring you water and your food but do not address issues. After an hour waiting for appetizers, I asked the person working at the front for help, and he did help try to expedite our order. About 35 minutes later we got appetizers and food at the same time, we had 3 children at the table so this was all a problem, and we were celebrating a birthday/graduation. I only got half my order. I never got a receipt, email, text, or anything showing what I paid for, but THEY DID CHARGE my credit card. No one to talk to. We left after 2+ hours. I had put in for my $10 open table reward, no idea if it went through.
Food was served cold (long wait more than 30 mins) for mac and cheese, flatbread, and cauliflower tacos. Flatbread was not appetizing at all.
The app ordering system is not user friendly and results in entrees, appetizers, and drinks arriving at randomly for each guest. Also appetizers and entree arrived at the same time resulting in a cold entree. If something was missed it was difficult to address because the staff were not very aware or interactive with the customer. Overall the food was good but the service was subpar.
My favorite restaurant, 4 times in a row now!!!!!!
Other than the planes flying overhead, everything was great.
The app for ordering is not user friendly and they used to have a button that allowed you to get a human to come over to help you at the table. I had to go find someone three separate times to get our table what we needed. No one cleared the dirty dishes from our table. The manager was very nice once he realized we weren’t getting good service but it was a little late. I felt like I was working instead of enjoying a night w the guests I invited.
Service is almost non existent. You have to order your food through a very user unfriendly app. We were a party of 10 celebrating a graduation and all of the technical issues really put a damper on what should have been a festive time. If they continue to use this app in place of staff, I will never go there again!
Had a great first dinner out since the pandemic. Felt very safe and comfortable. Showed up with an extra person and they kindly allowed us to pull up an extra chair at our 4 seater. The food and drinks were great. Eating my leftover brisket sandwich right now, it was so big. Get the creme brulee! Loved the ordering on the app... fast and easy! All my questions about allergens were answered quickly through it too. As a parent, really loved being able to order and then just close out our tab and go. Literal only complaint was that the onions in the the onion rings were too thick to compete with the flavor of the batter, which was delicious and the onions couldn't cook enough to get sweet. Such a minor thing, though, lol! Thrilled with our first outing in a long time. Also, the sweet mama duck with her baby in the little pond and the koi were beautiful. Maybe I'm just happy to have left the house, but we had a really good time.
Came for my graduation and loved the ordering system via QR code. They accommodated my party of 9 so well. Only critique is that my brother asked for ranch and a server put it on the table by reaching under my brother’s armpit and got really close to my dad’s face and it was really awkward. LOL. Other than that I also loved the outdoor seating area 😂
Beautiful patio for a sunny day. Brought our puppy. The online ordering was a bit annoying, but service was good otherwise. Love the wines on tap!
Good experience overall. Service was great and quick
Beer was a 5 star …. Brussel sprouts a 5 star ….. Mac & cheese a two star , boring , dry , very little cheese , it used to be really good and tasty….. brisket flatbread was a one star , 4 small pieces of brisket , all the other toppings only covered half the flat bread ….. would go again but would think twice about ordering certain items
We were a party of 8 on one bill. There are no wait staff , you order off your phone , which causes the food and drinks to come out at different times . Food was cold and drinks were warm , service was terrible . Paid the bill and tip was automatically added even when they didn’t have wait service. Secondly if I want to eat a meal with everyone’s looking at their phone I’d have stayed home !!!! Overall HORRIBLE experience!!!
The new phone ordering system is buggy. It's easy to order something by accident and I don't think it is possible to see what you have ordered on your phone until you get the bill. Staff is helpful and will look things up, but they are overworked. Still, we had a wonderful lunch. I wouldn't be surprised if these problems are fixed in the near term, but you need to know about them.
I had a wonderful first time experience. The food and drinks were amazing. I have a gluten allergy and the entire staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the food. I will definitely be back!
Yesterday evening it was a little chilly out in the garden and my food was not hot. Especially, the soup.
My impossible burger was a little overdone but the smashed potatoes were to die for. Flatbread was also enjoyed very much but the pretzel, again, was not warm.
Good Beer, Good Foods, Good Staff, Good Atmosphere！
One thing what I just want to say is no one can escape from Airplane noises.
Hate the ordering process (if you don't have a smartphone, I am not sure what you would do), hate the noise of planes going overhead every few minutes. We all had hamburgers which were excellent and, of course, the beer was great, but would not return to this venue.
Great beers. Didn't like having to order from an app - and servers not that helpful in making recommendations. Nice beer garden design, right under the flight path so conversations will be temporarily interrupted.
Ordering is different by using phone to order but great tip from server to use camera from phone and not the QR reader app to order helped speed up how to access and navigate the menu. Goat cheese salad was recommended and was absolutely delicious!
Great drinks, food, ambiance. Spacious patio and great lighting/heat sources at night. I appreciate that leashed dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio. The spot to take visitors from out of town who want to sample San Diego's craft beer culture and enjoy the surrounding arts district at Liberty Station.
Snarky service- The menu stated the burger came with avocado so I asked the food runner about it. When he brought some back he sassily set it on the table said I didn’t add it to my burger and walked away. We had to “text” for other items which they finally brought to the table 20 mins after we were all done eating.
The tables were spread out, which was nice. The mood was lively and the food was tasty. The P.O.G. beer was amazing (and we probably ordered too many of them!) The QR Code method of ordering worked pretty well, but it was a bit awkward. Our servers did an impressive job of adapting to his non-traditional way of placing orders, but I hope the company of Stone Brewing figures out a way to either get more in-person ordering or refine the QR system so diners can make special requests more easily. The conventional wisdom was that they were having trouble hiring people. Maybe they need to pay more (and stop forcing employees to rely on tips)? Provide benefits so servers can make a decent living?) I don't know, but hopefully they figure it out soon. Until then, I'll probably enjoy a growler of P.O.G. in my backyard.
Great place for large parties. We were 16 for birthday party! Service was so fast and ordered from table very convenient.
Warm and festive environment
Limited entree selection
Good beer selection
Lack of service. Did not clear plates, bring napkins or there when needed
This location was good, we sat outdoors so there were a lot of people with dogs. The planes passing over us were pretty consistent, but the food was great and the brews were tasty. We didn't get a lot of attention from the staff due to their Covid restrictions, but they were friendly. I think next time we will try to eat inside and see if that goes better. We love Stone Brewing, but the Escondido location remains our favorite.
We used to be semi-regulars at Stone pre-pandemic. The servers were helpful and friendly and the food was fantastic. We visited in the end of May 2021 and it was a totally different experience. We had to order via a QR code and a clunky interface. I had questions about the menu but couldn’t figure out the instructions about how to get someone to come over to ask about the menu. I was the designated order taker for our table of 4 and the process took so long that I missed out on chatting with my table mates for about 10 minutes. Food runners seemed rushed, stressed, and unhappy. Two of our orders didn’t come out right (I think kitchen was out of a particular side so subbed with something else without checking with us first. We also wanted a simple side of ranch and the runner was seriously put out by the request. I get that he was busy, but dude, it’s just ranch (and I’d asked for it through the app when I ordered our food). Food came out in a timely manner but was just meh. I’ll give Stone another chance, but only when they have proper waitstaff service.
Enjoyed the beer (especially the guest taps) and the atmosphere, but the online ordering and self-service is a complete put-off.
Was good, enjoyed the time.
Great food and awesome beers. Loved eating in the outdoor patio. A little noisy when planes flew over but really neat to watch the planes overhead, too! We’ll definitely go back the next time we’re in San Diego.
The way that you order the food was so complicated and when we were confused I felt one of the waiters was very upset that he had to help us. It was just honestly so confusing and annoying that we had to ask so many questions. we had extra good brought to us and since we were a big party everyone ate their dinner at different times and some people didn’t get their dinner until after someone at our table got their dessert. it was so frustrating and honestly was the down of our prom night.
I have been coming here for a long time. The food has fallen so far below anything I am willing to pay for again. Everything came out cold and flavorless. Huge shame as I used to love this place.
Had a good time, but the digital menu became frustrating for a moment when ordering more items.
Hate the app ordering system soup was cold food needs to improve. Beer was great
Placing our order through the QR code on the table caused a bit of confusion and took awhile to process. Server seemed annoyed when our drinks came out wrong. Otherwise, the food was great and ended up with a different, awesome server!
Oustanding service and the food was so good and fresh! The 10th anniv may have been the best beer I've ever had. Highly recommend - so delish!
Also, major props to Cody Benson! He came to our table and took the time to chat us up about LS and Stone AB history. He was so knowledgeable and fun to talk to. We had a spectacular time!
Stone is one of our favorite lunch spots during our annual visits to San Diego. The beer and food is always well done and while the indoor bar and dining areas are gorgeous and creatively designed, we especially enjoy the outdoor seating in a lovely garden setting with water features and beautiful plantings. We also like that the outdoor dining areas are dog-friendly.
The only downside is the frequent roaring of jets taking off from nearby San Diego airport. I personally do not mind it, and enjoy watching the aircraft, but some members of our party mentioned that it made conversation difficult. Just something to be aware of.
Also, having been dining at this location ever since it opened, we are not fans of the new online only ordering process. The site itself is not difficult to use, but we miss the option of having someone there if we have questions while placing our order. I realize this was initiated as a result of COVID; just hope it doesn’t become a permanent policy.
In any event, we will continue to include this location on our must-do list when we are in the area, and highly recommend it.
Order system is most difficult of any restaurant I’ve been in since pandemic.
Took 3 people to get refill on soda.
We had such a fun time! Drinks were great and food was yummy!
