Guys, this place is awesome. It's practically farm to mouth. My one complaint is that I couldn't sit kitty-corner from my wife. The vast distance between us was a bit uncomfortable on Valentine's day when we wanted to whisper in each other's ears. What a minor complaint when compared to the almost familiar, but surprisingly new explosion of flavors that arrived with each plate. My favorite dish was the cabbage and rutabaga roll which looked like sushi and felt like sushi in my mouth, but defied reason and tasted like nothing I've ever had. Go to State & Lemp and enjoy!
This was our second time dining at State and Lemp. The first was around three years ago, under the previous ownership. This time we liked that the tables were arranged for private dining, as opposed to the one long table that was set up last time. This allowed us to have a more intimate date experience. The courses were described in good detail and the service was excellent. The food was very good overall, but I would rate only the Carrot Tartare as excellent. That dish was exquisite. The wine pairings were mediocre. Though the wines were very good, I felt that only one of the five was realy well-paired. The desert wine did not pair well at all, and there was no sparkling wine to begin the meal. We enjoyed the food, but not as much as we enjoyed it the last time that we visited. At $70 per meal with an additional $40 each for wine pairing I have to expect excellence on all fronts, and though this was very good it did not rate as excellent. I can't help but to feel like I could spend half as much on similar quality fare elsewhere. We would have missed out on that delectible Carrot Tartare if we had gone somewhere else, unfortunately one excellent course in five is just not enough for me to rate them higher.
Looking forward to reservation for dinner made 4months ago. They were able to put on an extra guest, which was enormously fortunate for our unexpected family situation. Wine selections were perfect, food was elegantly plated and outstandingly tasty! The service was perfect. They were efficient yet made us feel welcome and special. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
The emphasis on local farms and food sustainability is of primary importance to our family. Each item was treated with the respect and honor we all should show our food. Thank you for your respect
Great service and beautifully presented food. Good wine pairings. The food was good too, but not worth the cost. We needed to try it and we are glad we did.
This was truly one of our best dining experiences ever! We live in Seattle and have traveled extensively but found the flavors, presentation and ingenuity absolutely outstanding. Can’t wait to come back one day.

Pretty disappointed unfortunately. Never a good idea to enter right into the dining room. I understand the restaurant is attempting to have an intimate setting but this was far from the case. Food was okay service and wine list severely lacked.
The new owners of State & Lemp carry on in the same tradition as the established original with a focus on outstanding food and service. I previously enjoyed the communal seating, but found the new seating arrangement allowed for more intimate conversation and overall enjoyment. The food was excellent: the Chef's menu covered a broad range with fantastic local ingredients. Presentation was thoughtful and service was excellent. State & Lemp is a delight.
Lovely meal with wine pairing. Tasty onion ring appetizer. Flavor-exploding endive citrus salad. Yummy octopus and delicious wagyu. Everything great but the dessert. Cake dry and flavorless. But overall, the meal was fabulous, and wines perfectly paired.
Amazing Food, Amazing Experience! Highly Recommend
State and Lemp is such a unique dining experience. The flavors are amazing and surprising. The service is personal. The tasting menus are always changing and in season.
The food was amazing and creative once we started the 9 course meal. I was not a fan of the palette cleanser. What ruined the experience for me was the temp inside thier dining room. They had a space heater on the side of the room. I guess they put all the money into the decor and plating because I was freezing in there. We even switched seats somewhere away from the door. The waiter says we turned up the heat a little. It was no more than 60 degrees in that room.
It was rushed for the price and the food wasn’t that great. Service was good.
Outstanding all around. Each table gets personal attention, the food is unique, flavorful, and well put together. The wine pairings are thoughtful. This is more of an experience than a meal.
Probably the only true "Fine Dining" restaurant that currently exists in Boise. I do not have anything else that can even compare to the level of quality and professionalism provided here.
We dined at State and Lemp for our 44th anniversary. This was to be a special evening with friends to celebrate a time of great happiness. The venue itself is small yet intimate lending itself to a quiet and significant dining experience. However, the acoustics render the dining area noisy making conversation strained and even difficult to hear the chef explain each course. This is a shortcoming that should be addressed. We definitely hope so.
We had the combination hunter/gather (9 course meal). Absolutely flawless, divine taste, and excellent presentation. The chef's ingenuity and development of the various courses was beyond reproach. He is a star rising. One can not go wrong with the menu and all food.
We paired some wines but also used an anniversary wine aligned with our party. The corkage fee was nominal and we thank S&L for permitting us to do so. The paired wines hit the mark each time and kudos to whomever aligned these pairings. Since S&L highlights local foods offerings we'd suggest more pairings with local and regional wines.
The cost for the evening would initially seem expensive, more than that offered at other Boise area high end restaurants. For some this may not be a barrier but others may shy away as well as decline pairings in an effort to reduce costs. We sincerely hope the Boise market can continue to support this excellent restaurant.
We thank S&L again for a memorable evening, divine food, and a relaxed ambience for our anniversary celebration. Continued good fortune.
The food was not worth the $$$ The portions were very small along with the couple of swallows of wine for the 5 course pairing. We will not return. We left hungry and disappointed. That said the service was very good.
Awesome food, presentation and service
I’ve heard great things so it may have just been the Fall time of year. A lot of root vegetables which we’re not thrilled with. Didn’t care at all for the duck (super rare and tough with a gamer taste) and I love all desserts... but not this one!
This place lives up to its hype. It exceeded both my date and my expectations; local food and tastes were varied and outstanding; wine parings were right on target. Surprisingly quiet and romantic given the small size, and felt like you were eating the chefs own home.
I was a solo diner and incredibly taken care of. Great wines to complement the 5 course tasting menu. The sourdough bread with smoked butter was memorable, as was the duck. Recommended.

Too expensive, too noisy, very small portions, do not like having another table 4 inches from our table.

Unique and memorable flavors and combinations. Looks like they are changing things up here in the near future. Hope they continue the tasting menu.
Perhaps the most fantastic dining experience I’ve ever had.
It was good overall. I heard this is a new chef/owner but wanted to give it a try regardless as I was visiting from out of town. He is young and he got 3 out of the 5 courses spot-on and was great at explaining each meal and fielding questions. The manager was great as she took the time with every table and did her homework with every guest prior to our arrival to make a great birthday night.

This was our first time at State & Lemp with the new owner & chef at the helm. I’m happy to report that our dinner was spectacular! Multiple times since we’ve talked about when we can go back. Many items on the menu were grown in the owner’s garden, others sourced locally. Wine pairings were on point. Go eat here! You won’t be disappointed!
This was our first visit under new ownership. Having eaten here several times over the last 3-4 years (regular and Supper Club seatings), we were really disappointed. This visit we had 9:00 Supper Club reservations. The amuse and first two of five courses were very good. Wine pairing pours were significantly smaller than all previous visits (maybe 2oz each). Portion sizes very small including the main course. We actually were hungry when we left. Only 3 of 5 food courses were explained and only 2 of the wines were described (despite there only being 2 two-tops and 2 single diners in the entire restaurant). Service was very rushed (welcome champagne finished, five courses eaten, check paid and out the door by 10:15). Sadly, we don't plan on returning anytime soon.
Enjoyed the whole experience from the food to the people we ate with. All top notch.
If you are into culinary experiences this is an absolute must while in Boise.
My guest and I were absolutely blown away by our experience. The thought and detail that went into the dishes and pairings was wildly evident. The staff was passionate and knowledgeable about everything they served. Price point was more affordable than a comparable experience in any other city. Highly recommend, 10/10 evening.
Very good food, should consider if special set-up for seating (no privacy) is suited for the planned occasion.
We enjoyed the menu and farm-to-table choices, charming setting, and . The price was fair for the extensive, delicious selections;wine samplings with each course were refilled glasses generously, and staff was very friendly.
Having also enjoyed high-end farm-to-table evenings at Herb Farm (Woodinville) and smaller venues, I think staff here could up the ante with a slightly longer, extensive discussion of the menu and wine pairings. While they did share a bit, it was more perfunctory. Its too bad the owners don't have time to share time with the guests.
Even with new owners the flavor and vibe has continued. I’ll have to try another meal and different menu options to give a more thorough review. At State and Lemp your tastebuds never know what to expect except goodness.
State and Lemp was pretty great for Boise, if this was in NYC my rating would be a 3-4 hence my rating but in Boise it could be a 5.
A Unique Gem in Boise.
The menu is fixed and the price is high, but very with it. There are 5 courses with wine pairings as an option. You can view the menu on the restaurants website. The small space makes for an intimate dining experience where you will get to know your fellow diners.
Everything tastes amazing! One of the reasons for this is because this is a farm to table restaurant. The portions aren't big, but satisfying. The servers explain what you are eating before each course and there are culinary surprises along the way.
Cannot wait to go back!
