A photo of Cafe Napoli restaurant
• Italian • Merchant City
Cafe Napoli in Glasgow’s Merchant City is a charming little spot serving great coffee, gourmet, Italian-style sandwiches and some quality plates of pasta. You can also just stop by if your sweet tooth is giving you the feeling, as the homemade sweet treats at Cafe Napoli are excellent as well. But Cafe Napoli is extremely popular not just because of the food and coffee but because it’s an extremely lovely place to be. The welcome is always warm, the decor is rustic and cool and there’s very often fresh flowers sitting atop each table. You’ll find it on Stockwell Street, not far at all from Argyle Street station. Reservations are a good idea, particularly at weekends.

Right in the centre of Glasgow, Drury Street Bar & Kitchen on, erm, Drury Street, boasts a quirky menu of extremely indulgent burgers and pizzas among much else. It’s a cosy spot within sight of Glasgow Central train station and ideal for whatever you casual occasion might be. Stop by for a drink, a nibble or a hearty meal and prepare for a very warm welcome indeed. Drury Street Bar & Kitchen is a local favourite, which isn’t surprising when you take into account the regular pizza or beer and burger deals – it’s good stuff, folks, so reserve a table now.

AĞA Mezza Palace in Glasgow is considered by many as the go-to place for traditional Turkish cuisine, and we couldn’t agree more. All the dishes are prepared fresh and the meat is cooked the traditional way, – over charcoal to ensure that it’s both succulent and delicious. The exceptional food is matched perfectly by the stylish decor and first class service, creating an atmosphere that is friendly and inviting. Located on Dundas Street in Merchant City, it’s perfect for celebrating with friends, for a special treat with the family or perhaps for a romantic evening. If what you’re after is top quality Turkish cuisine that is both authentic and delicious, look no further than AĞA Mezze Palace.

Osteria del Tempo Perso, or the Inn of the Lost Time, promises to transport diners from Glasgow city centre to another place and another time, Italy of old. Helmed by the mother and son trio of Sabrina, Marco and Matteo Lacobelli, this incarnation is in fact the third Osteria del Tempo Perso in existence, with another in Edinburgh and the original back in Casalvieri, central Italy. The osteria’s express lunches are popular among the city’s workers, making this John Street address a busy one during the week, while long and lugubrious dinners accompanied by fine wine and beer are encouraged with the aphorism ‘time is an essential ingredient in Italian food’. We recommend taking it at Osteria del Tempo Perso.

• Middle Eastern • Merchant City
Damasquino brings traditional Middle Eastern flavours to Glasgow. Specialising in Syrian cuisine primarily, you’ll find an array of authentic dishes that are cooked with fresh herbs, spices and premium ingredients. Damasquino also offers Mediterranean and Lebanese dishes to boot, and there’s a wide selection of meat, seafood and vegetarian options on offer, meaning everyone is more than catered for at this Saltmarket spot. Located just a short walk from the People’s Palace in Merchant City, Damasquino is the ideal place to spice up your evening. Popular among Syrian cuisine loving Glasweigians, reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment. What are you waiting for?
