The hostess, Billy was accommodating & so friendly. Our waiter, Colby gave us great service. However, our food was awful. We had to send two entrees back because it was too cold to eat- everything was either undercooked or overcooked.
Girls weekend dinner
Good food. Fun place.
Rob our server was excellent but the brunch food wasn't great in my opinion
Jazz player wasn’t there
Not a brunch like we have back home but overall delightful. Service was good and atmosphere was lively.
Food and service were good however this was advertised as a live jazz brunch. There was no live jazz, only a DJ playing non-jazz music.
Best service and food!!!
Great food. Go early if you want a spot at the rooftop bar. Filet was excellent
The crawfish brunch dish = AMAZING!!!! Like nothing I’ve had before!
excellent food and service! Rob was amazing - best shrimp and grits we have ever had
Service was fantastic! Logan explained everything and was so friendly!! Would go back!! Food was awesome too!
When paying high prices, expect steaks to be cooked as ordered. The 2 of us ordered filets medium rare but they came medium well. Sent them back. The second set came back medium (no red) and the manager was irritated that we would refused the first steaks. And how does a Charleston restaurant run out of shrimp at 7:00? Poor. Not returning.
Our waiter Grant was Great! But not to his fault we tried to order wine and twice he came back and told us they were out, but his pad told him it was there. Finally found a wine they had which was a red but to our dismay it came out chilled. When we asked why it was chilled he told us all their red wines are chilled and there was nothing he could do about it. Next our food came out but my Porkchop was cold? Finally the manager came over and asked about why I was not eating like the rest of our party and when we told her what was going on she took charge and fixed most of it and took it off the bill. I can't understand why any good restaurant would ever chill all their red wines?
Charleston has amazing food options but Stars is not one of them. It's a very limited menu and we were disappointed with both food and drinks. Started with the wedge salad which had brown lettuce on the outside that should have been removed. Salad was lacking and underwhelming and definitely not worth $15. Then had a shrimp pasta dish with pasta that was completely overcooked to mush, bland sauce, some canned artichoke hearts thrown in and a few shrimp tossed in. Flavorless. We had many great meals in Charleston. Stars was more expensive than many of them and not worth half of what they charge. I should have known when they still had availability on the day of. Plan ahead and book elsewhere.
Excellent shrimp fettuccini and filet. Service was good. The music was loud which was distracting.
The brunch was amazing! The service was amazing! The music was amazing! I highly recommend the waffles for brunch;fabulous!
We were excited to try Stars for a bachelorette party after online reviews and a personal recommendation. Restaurant was packed with people standing around the bar area. Barely able to walk to our table and people backed almost right up to the table as we were dining. Would have looked over that, but our food was so bad it was inedible. We ordered the shrimp Alfredo. The entire dish was mush and had literally no flavor. Just tasted like wet noodles. Two guest at our table ordered it and after a couple bites pushed it aside. Other guests at our table ordered other dishes and while they were not inedible all said there was little to no flavor. The waitress even asked us if we wanted salt and pepper and we declined prior to tasting our food. When she returned we requested it and she said she figured as much everyone always does so apparently bland food is common.
Brunch with live music did not disappoint! Robert was a great server! Food was on point we had burger, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffle. All great! We will be back!
Saturday brunch on our way out of town. The food was spectacular and so was the service. Very large parties ahead of us but staff made us feel welcome and taken care of.
I’ve been to Stars a handful of times for the rooftop, but I hadn’t eaten there until last night.
The service was really great and the food exceeded my expectations. The food came relatively quickly.
We had a great experience!
My only tip/ “pain point” is that they do not have straws at all. So if you’re someone like me who needs one with your frozen drink (frosé) or cocktail definitely be sure to bring your own!
Waited 30 minutes past our reservation time My food was only mediocre and Cosmopolitan was not good. Disappointed
Stars was a pleasant surprise! We always eat at a local (renowned) restaurant but could not get reservations. We have been coming to Charleston for many years, living only 2.5 hours away. We made a reservation at Stars and were extremely pleased with the food, service and the value. The menu appears limited but it really is quite sufficient. Often too many choices take away from the proficiency of a restauranteur. Food - excellent and HUGE portions (salads are almost a meal in themselves) so order carefully because everything looks and IS delicious; Service - very attentive without being bothersome and the entire staff works together like a well-oiled machine; Value - for the portions, the quality, and the experience, we felt like this was a great value for a wonderful meal and enjoyable evening. HIghly, Highly recommend you try Stars!
This was a one and done for us. The rib eye ( ordered rare) came rare- but ice cold. Obviously they don’t bring their steaks to room temperature first. And the add on chicken for a salad wasn’t the usual breast you get- but a tough boneless thigh.
The positive was our waitress. Attentive and personable!
For a brunch “experience “ I did find much experience. It was a fantastic meal and the waiter was fantastic. The “DJ” was no where to be seen and the music was a touch loud.
Service was outstanding , atmosphere fun , food was average at best
3 boys ordering steaks. So good! Our one friend ordered shrimp and noodles like a total dork. Our server was super cool. Overall would highly recommend!
Unfortunately, they would not seat incomplete parties. I then watched and per my perception they have others our reserved table. ( 2 days plus made) when my other 2 arrived ( within my 15 min window) we were relegated to a high top in the noisy bar near door way. Server asked if we were celebrating anything, we were. No gesture was made on part of restaurant. Potential is here, not realized for is on this evening.:(
Great place for fancy/ casual dinning, the waiter was very polite, the food was great, chief was extremely nice and they are a team of their craft
Rob was our server and truly the best of the best. The food was amazing. I would absolutely recommended this place to anyone coming to Charleston. Live music was great too!
I am celiac so realize that going out to eat is going to be a risk. We went at the very end of the night and our waitress tried her best to see what foods I could eat and what would be safe for me. Unfortunately, I did get glutened, but I know that was a risk I was taking when eating out. The food was super good, the vibe was more of a college bar atmosphere than I was anticipating... But we did go at 9PM on a Friday - so this was also expected. Meals were pretty pricey, even for Charleston, but great taste.
Had an event that we had to hurry off to, and everyone was very accommodating. Management allowed us to put in our order early, and the staff helped us get in and out without feeling rushed. Food was excellent, as always. We’ll always recommend Stars.
Limited menu, too noisy, tables too close to each other
The rooftop bar was underwhelming.
Tables and chairs were sparse, my Aperol spritz was served in a plastic cup, as were all drinks. At this price point there should be glassware.
Service was excellent.
As far as the restaurant; first the good.
The food was excellent. The oyster starter was great. Shrimp fettuccine was outstanding. The house manager, Steph, was one of the best.
The problem started with the wine list.
We ordered a bottle of French Chablis.
When we ordered a second, we were told they were out. Picked a Malbec to accompany my friend's ribeye.
They did not have it. The tap wine they suggested was thin and just ehh. And finally the big mystery of the night. My wife ordered two margaritas, one came tall the other short. Our waiter informed us it depends on which bartender makes the drink. Uh??
First off, the service with Stephanie and Logan was great. Very professional and had great suggestions. Their suggestions did not play in our decisions. Their knowledge of the side menu items were spot on
Both my wife and I enjoyed our meals. The prime rib steak was cooked to perfection. The Mac N cheese was the best I may have ever had and I’m from the south.
Overall, great atmosphere and the quality of the food was excellent. The service was top notch.
Brunch was everything as usual.
Went with a party of 16. Had us split into two groups of 8. Was a little frustrated when we arrived that there was actually an area all of us could have been accommodated together at but instead they sat a smaller 4 top at the adjoining table just as we arrived. Poor planning—our party that prebooked out had to separate somewhat across the room from each other. It definitely wasn’t a great party accommodation. Food was good but steak was not warm in the center. I would recommend but not for large groups. Try some where else. Prohibition close by did a great job of getting us all at one table.
Filet Mignon was cold and there was a ton of fat and grizzle on rib eye
Overall was a very enjoyable
