The menu at Star of Bethnal Green is short but sweet, and the pulled pork burger was delicious. Good selection of ales, friendly staff, prompt service and nice surroundings. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary for a typical 'gastro pub' but I'd cheerfully go back.

Needed a venue local to a friend's flat in Bethnal Green for dinner for four middle-aged men who still think they can swing with the youngsters. Star of BG had great reviews on this site and elsewhere, seemed very unpretentious so booked early evening table for dinner. Atmosphere was bustling as you'd expect from the Friday before Christmas. I arrived well before my friends and was warmly greeted by staff. Bar manager (who was Irish and lovely - sorry can't remember her name) set me up at a table for four on my own downstairs (private party upstairs), said she would (and then did) get music turned down as it was next to a speaker - I also received no hassle from staff when friends were late. Same bar woman, despite being about to knock off for the evening, then took me and friends through the menu after they arrived in great detail but in an engaging way. Food, cooked by the pop-up kitchen was sensationally good - rare hangar steak with chips and greens, all for about £15. Washed down with Brooklyn lager on tap, it was excellent value for money. However, we were next to the men's toilets, which began to stink more and more of urine during the evening whenever the door was opened. We flagged it to the barman after a while who said "It's not half as bad as it usually is" with no apology or suggestions of how to address the situation - he seemed to find it amusing which was annoying. We moved off our own back to another area in the now pretty packed bar when it became unbearable but this was not a great spot and we decided to all head back to friend's flat a few minutes later. It was a real shame - we were four blokes who were not looking for star treatment but the attitude of the barman that we spoke to killed the evening there for us. I think that if the guy had seemed a bit more helpful or concerned on that point we would have stayed a lot later (there was a good DJ that we all knew starting up as we left)

We had the Featherblade Sunday lunch option and between 4 adults had the lamb leg steak, the chicken and the beef short ribs. The meat was cooked to perfection and we were very pleased with it. The vegetable side dishes were fantastic, particularly the leek gratin. Only room for improvement really was in the roast potatoes which were ever so slightly 'school dinner' compared to everything else. The choice of sauces was fab but we would have been happy with slightly more generous portions. The service was impeccably-pitched for great lunch in a proper boozer and staff were really friendly. We went with a toddler & a baby & there was another baby there; more highchairs and better changing facilities would be a Sunday lunch improvement.

This is a cool pub that does great beer and good burgers. Unfortunately we went on the night their head chef was away, so despite them having a long, varied menu online, we were only offered half of the burgers that are normally available. Nothing more. That said, the batman was charming and very apologetic, and the atmosphere was fun. I'd go again and hope to get the full service.

Friendly staff, convenient location, and all round great local; what gives it the edge over a multitude of pubs in the area is the delicious burger menu now on offer. Perfect double cheeseburger. My only regret? That I didn't go on a Monday to redeem the 2 for £12 offer.

We went there for a drink on Friday night pre-party. We decided to try the nachos as a test to see if the food was any good. They were crunchy but the toppings were stingy and there was hardly any cheese. We figured if you managed to get nachos wrong then the rest of the menu wouldn't be worth trying so we decided not to. The drinks were well priced - £6 for two double vodkas so I was pleased with that.

We ate here due to them serving a roast until 10pm. We dined at around 8pm, they had run out of lamb at this time, so I went for the beef. The pub was fairly quite at this time, but overall the food tasted good. I would eat here again if I was in the area.

Well, the pub quiz was on and the soft drinks tap was broken and the pizza's not the best in the world... But, hey, it's our local. We love it.

In the evening, met up with Dawnie for a drink at The Star of Bethnal Green. A sort of trendyfied pub, very nice, sorta home-made kitsch inside. We both had handmade pizzas, and they were very nom. We sat outside, a pleasant hour and a half outside, people watching - Hackney Hipsters, Muslims, old locals, you sort of see all of London from that spot. My only criticism was that the rose wine hadn't made friends with the fridge - a glaring error on a hot, sunny day. They do specials on their cocktail list though, and 2 pizzas for £12 on Mondays, so I'd certainly go again, it had a lovely atmosphere.
