I have eaten here a number of times before and both the food and service have been excellent. This time, however, service was a bit lacking. It took forever for us to get our entree. The table next to us came in ten to fifteen minutes after us, got their entree and were finished before ours was even delivered. The steaks were only warm and no longer hot which I surmise is only because they had been setting there for all that time. I asked for salt but the waiter left and only returned long after we had completely finished our meal. No salt. I know they could do better and should.
Hands down the best steak in town!! Our experience last night was outstanding!
Very much enjoyed this restaurant. Not all the dishes were on point, but most were. Loved the bar area and the restaurant. The staff is amazing
Excellent from the front door to our exir
This place is absolutely awesome and the food is the best
Great Quality steaks cooked perfectly. Side dishes (mushrooms and au gratin potatoes over priced for mediocre quality. Salad was good.
We visited here on a Saturday night for our anniversary dinner and it was an amazing visit. The food and staff were both superb and I couldn't recommend the place more.
Wife’s Birthday dinner. Was excellent food and service. Great steaks. We will be back.
Simply exceptional in every way.
Birthday celebration. Had a great time
Loved the specials menu!
It was a wonderful dining experience for my whole family.
A little pricey but the food and service were excellent.
Meal was excellent and service was outstanding, best steak I have ever had.
Food was exceptional and so was the service. If your looking at a chain such a Ruth Chris or a Fleming’s I would recommend here over them. Superior everything at this price point level. My only thing would be the stake knife presentation. It’s pretentious and over the top. 9.7 out of 10.
Very nice ambiance and great staff. Food definitely not worth the price. Had a gift card but wouldn’t go again.
I ordered the $ 95.00 Steak. Had it last week and it was incredible! This week I ordered it again and it was way overcooked. Not the same cut as the three little pieces that were melting in my mouth last week.So good
Talked our friends into joining us Wednesday night. Ordered it again. Both times ordered Medium rare. First time it was rare in center perfect. Second time meat was a different cut of meat completely. Brown all all the through so dry. Tough as leather thick ... tasted and it was inedible. A big ugly bone was on the plate. It’s still in my fridge but throwing it out. No onewill touch it. Hard to cut even with your steak knife . Seems like the chef was getting rid of a terrible piece of tough brown thick awful piece of meat!
This is one of our top 3 restaurants in Coronado. Normally, we just eat apps and sides at the bar, but last night we had friends in town and ate in the dining room. It's lovely, cozy. A little loud, but that's ok.
Service was great! The waiter was great, helpful. The sommelier was very knowledgeable. We love really good wine, and are always looking for something unique and delicious from other countries for a relatively reasonable price. He is French, and turned us on to a beautiful Bordeaux that we all loved. And, he seemed to like the game of finding us something that was new, but that would be right up our alley according to how we described some wines that we know we love. He was spot-on!
The bread and salted butter were completely delicious and impossible to refuse (especially the warm, fresh, country sourdough!!). The food was all very good, but not exceptional. My husband and I both had the beet salad and the salmon. I like that the salmon was wild caught, but it wasn't great - good, but not great.
Overall, lovely experience. We will continue to go here. They have a really nice wine list! The patio is amazing for when the weather is nice. And, everyone we have ever dealt with here is very professional and very friendly!
This was our first time here and the staff was so accommodating to us with our family!
Great place for business guests! Service and food were outstanding.
We had an excellent meal, I had the Salmon, beet salad and blueberry bread pudding. All delicious.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Wine selection is awesome (but too expensive for our budget). Food was nicely presented and masterfully prepared.
We were at this restaurant on New Year’s Day. Talking about fine dining in Coronado, Stakes is an upscale steakhouse on Orange Street that you must visit. I’d compare it to Mastro’s City Hall Steakhouse in Scottsdale, AZ. Fine dining, premium wines, great steak and so on. When you visit an establishment like this, your expectations are high and they didn’t disappoint us. There are many aspects to highlight about this place. Like most top of the line steakhouses, there will be some wallet damage, but you will be rewarded with the highest quality food and service. This is as good as it gets in Coronado, and for that matter, all of San Diego.
Clean bathrooms. Romantic ambiance. Hip bar. Professional service.
I had a filet, medium rare. My wife had the same. It’s the best steak I’ve had in years. Tender, juicy and cooked perfectly. Wood-fired Baked potatoes. Yummy! It’s worth a trip across the bridge just for that. However, those steaks did not need any side dish and would have been fine on their own. This place ranks among the best of the best steakhouses across the country. Certainly a cut above chains like Ruth Chris. Don’t get me wrong. I like Ruth Chris but Stakes is a whole new level of dining. Overall, Stakes is a solid , elegant and fine dining experience you will not forget.
The food was great and service superb but it was out of the stratosphere in price compared to a vast experience of filet dinners
Food was good but not great. Carrots were only warm. Bread was stale which was surprising. Service was just OK and for the price should have been stellar. Steaks were very good.
We had never been in the restaurant before. We had seen it from the street and thought it looked great. Upon arriving, I saw the almost empty main dining room, then glanced back at the lively bar area. When I checked in, the hostess guided us the a room BEHIND the hostess stand. It was stark, brightly lit, and had two large and loud parties going on. Between the two groups was a single table for two up against a wall. No other tables in the room. I immediately said I wish to see the rest of the restaurant. I looked back in the dining room (which had maybe two tables occupied), then walked into the bar. There was a table in the window there, so I grabbed it, then brought my wife over.
We call that original table the "Ha Ha Table". You know when staff tries to sit you by the bathroom or kitchen, then hopes you don't complain and just take it?
We sat in the bar and split a large dry-aged steak and potato. The steak had so much gristle on it. It was good, but nowhere close to the $64 price tag.
I eventually asked to see the manager to discuss the attempt to put us in the back room when the rest of the restaurant was available. He stated that HE chose that table for us because he thought it would be romantic and quiet for us. When I mentioned that the rest of the restaurant was open and that the room in question had two large and loud parties going on, he said "we came in at an odd time between reservations." Not entirely sure what that means - Our reservations were for 7pm. He took offense to my calling the room "The overflow room" and defended that it is his "favorite room." His favorite room BTW, does not face the water like the bar area does, it has no decor, and you will notice that there is not a single picture of it on their website or here on OT. It's the room for big parties or for when they are overbooked.
He did comp us our two drinks. But he was tripping all over himself with excuses instead of just apologizing. Unimpressed.
This was our first visit and we'll be back. We did the 5 course chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. The portions were generous and the main course consisted of several cuts of meat with two sides served family style. The other courses - chilled seafood, white fish, duck breast, and dessert - were equally delicious.
Food (filet mignon, rib eye, potato dish, brussel sprouts and carrots) was very good: warm, but not too hot, tasty and tender. Drinks (old fashioned, lemon drops and mojitos) were good (balanced with liquor and additives), but expensive ($12-$15), though the sizes were good. Same comment on the food. Service was excellent and the wait staff was very knowledgeable. Seated right away and our waiter was very attentive. A bit much on the presentations of the steaks and the knives. Some at the table liked it but I thought it was too long and unneccessary. The noise level was too high for me. Not sure how that can be lowered in light of the open table setting. If you like red meat, this is the place to go and there are some fish and shellfish selection for the non-red meat eaters.
Have come to Chop Stakehouse five times and normally enjoy very much, however this time my wife’s steak was burnt, mine was under cooked and sent back, and our dear 75th Birthday girl had $105
Steak that looked like a small piece of beef jerky. Brussels sprouts were way too sweet too. Must have a new chef? No preferred window seating for a special day. Server was extremely nice though and paired the wine well all which made the event nice yet over priced. $500 dinner for three is better spent elsewhere.
Anniversary! Met with a glass of champagne! Superb wait staff- just the right timing. My husband who is a beef connoisseur sad it’s best NY he’s ever had! Thumbs up for special occasions. Worth every penny and exceptional French wine offerings! Bravo!
Amazing from start to finish! One of our favorite places to eat when we come to Coronado.
We were really looking forward to trying the braised bone marrow appetizer, but were told that they “had just run out” at our Saturday night 6:30pm reservation which left us disappointed. Most of the other appetizers were seafood of some sort. We also found it strange that our server said they had a microbrew similar to Stella when asked if they had Stella, but brought out a Heineken - which is fine but not a microbrew. They did have a nice variety of wagyu steaks to choose from.
Phenominal!Driver picked us up and everyone was outstanding!Best steak I ever had!Normally go to Mastros .I recommend everyone tries it.
We were blown away the first time we ate at Stake, but this is the third time in a row we have been disappointed. Our guest's steak was cold and when returned to her, it was just warm. she sent it back and didn't want anything else. The service was okay and the dessert was very good, but my lamb was just warm and my husband's steak which he ordered medium, came out blue. We won't be back anytime soon. Very bummed.
Food and service was excellent. The only negative was the ambiance. Went there for me and my wife's wedding anniversary. Was hoping for something moderately romantic, but it was anything but. More of a family restaurant than for couples, which was strange considering the cost of the food. Not a place to go for a date night.
Stake is our favorite dining experience in San Diego - especially in Coronado. Every detail in service is perfect and the food is outstanding. Fine dining foodies will not be disappointed!
Fantastic service, even better food. Highly recommend for a special night out with your love or friends.
Absolutely incredible and so consistent! We’ve many times and It’s always an incredible experience
The quality of cuts and the service was absolutely impeccable! One of the finest establishments I’ve dined at.
