Terre Haute Brewing Company erected our beautiful Victorian Stables building in 1890. The building actually housed Clydesdale, Belgian and various other draft horses that delivered beer for the brewery. For private groups, the rear two-thirds of the upper level is our grand banquet hall. The room seats groups from 30-100. Lavish buffets or sit down meals for business dinners and programs, family gatherings, wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and holiday parties. Appetizers and salads were good. The kids working g in there were doing a great job. No prices on menu— NY Strip was 1/3 fat. We ended up paying $50+ for 2/3 of the strip steak. Lyonnaise potatoes were mediocre, at best. $200 meal for two people, including the tip. Food wasn’t t worth the (non-disclosed) prices.

Service was fine. My food was good. However, my spouse’s food was not prepared the way it was ordered. He has a food sensitivity and he could not eat his steak. It’s unlikely that we will dine there together again.

Stables Steakhouse is awesome. The food, the unique ambiance, and the service is great. I had the New York Strip steak and my wife had the Red Snapper. Both were cooked to perfection and the flavor was excellent. Our server, Peter was absolutely amazing. So friendly, attentive and professional. It is always a pleasureable experience when eat there.

We enjoyed our really enjoyed our dinner. Jeff was great at suggesting all the specials. It’s a little pricey, but that’s fine for a special dinner date. We enjoyed the complimentary desserts for a belated 50th anniversary celebration.

The service was very attentive, with multiple people taking care of us. The piece of service almost felt rushed. The food was good, but not exceptional. A pretty high price tag for the area, and the piano player in the lobby was so loud that it made conversation difficult. Overall I would give it a 3.5, not bad but not incredible.

The evening was wonderful! Service and meals were all very good! Everyone had something different, and everyone loved their food. Our server was very attentive, but not bothersome. Atmosphere was very pleasant and comfortable. Stables is one of our favorite spots.

Stables Steakhouse was an interesting place to eat. The food was delicious and portion sizes are big. However, the menu needs to be described as it seems, once I received the bill, that non-alcoholic drinks and desserts are included in the entree price. Nowhere is this indicated on the menu and the server did not mention this. I was delighted, but it would have been good to know just for reference. Stables was very accommodating when asked to split an entree between me and my elderly parent. The restaurant is in a modified barn and is very interesting and charming in its way. Servers are very efficient and nice. There is a credit card added to the bill which is announced on the bill but not ahead of time--which is ultimately fine, but maybe would be good to know earlier for people who would prefer to bring cash. I would definitely come back to Stable; it seems that once you have come once, there are a few quirks for people in the know.

Birthday Dinner 8:30 reservation: Took my fiance out for her birthday. It was her 1st time at this steakhouse. She loved it!! I requested special seating in my OpenTable comment section but seemed like we were seated in a regular part of the restaurant. There was live music from a piano and String Bass at the front door that was top notch but they quit playing early and the. music should have been piped through the speakers int he restaurant. This establishment lets guys wear ball caps at a $75/plate steakhouse-extremely tacky. What we ordered: 1-10 rating - Oysters - Northeast Atlantic - 10 - Shrimp cocktail - 10 - Caesar Salad - 10 - Wedge Salad - 7 (too much balsamic reduction - too sweet) - Cup of French Onion Soup - 7 - It had chunks of what seemed to be slow cooked roast beef that took away from the soup. It could have been a meal in itself & was more like a hearty stew rather than a traditional soup. - 28 oz Ribeye - 10 - ordered Med/rare - (She ordered & loved) - 28oz Chef's Cut Bone In Ribeye - 6 - ordered Medium (They scorched the outside of the steak and it was burnt a decent amount all around the edges. Had I known it was going to be $148 for this steak alone I would have re-fired a new steak instead of letting the waiter sell me on "that's just how these steaks are cooked" routine. The steak was lacking seasoning. In my 30 years of eating steaks this was prob the most disappointing version of this steak I've ever received. & Yes I should have ordered it medium rare because it was slightly over done but most places undercook medium rare for my tastes.) - Lyonnaise Potatoes - 10 - Creamed Spinach - 7 (the 1st version they burnt the cheese, the 2nd version they brought out was undercooked) - Cream Brulee - 20 (this might be the best version I've ever had of this in my life) Bread Pudding - 20 (also dynamite. an outstanding version of this dish. They brought this out with a lit candle).

We arrived early, staff took us right in to our secluded seating, the area was set up for our Anniversary. We never asked for it, it was done for us. The evening was special to my wife and I. Excellent service, food and atmosphere. We will be back again. Did I mention we drove over an hour to eat here? Wonderful!

Overall it was a fair to good experience. We had grilled shrimp that was over cooked. Garlic mashed potatoes were waaay over salted. As far as service, our meals were brought to the table before the appetizer plates were cleared. Kind of a ridiculous shuffle. To be honest, I expected a lot higher quality. I’m never opposed for paying top dollar for a top culinary experience. I did appreciate the lovely ambiance, and the music was low and appropriate for the atmosphere. Servers should be dressed appropriately to serve. Facial piercings definitely take away the from the class of such a lovely place. Staff was delightful and pleasant. Steaks were cooked to order, but a bit far over market price.
