Fergus Henderson’s original home of “Nose to Tail Eating” opened in a former smokehouse around the corner from Smithfield Market in 1994.

Celebrating the finest of indigenous British produce and making the most of what is seasonally best whilst applying straight forward cooking techniques, St. John is now celebrated as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World and in 2009 was awarded its first Michelin Star.

Nose to tail eating means that, where appropriate, every part of the animal should be put to good use in the kitchen and so along with Roast Beef and Lemon Sole, diners will find Rolled Pig’s Spleen, Kidneys and Ox Heart, Liver and Chitterlings as well as the Roast Bone Marrow & Parsley Salad, something of a ‘signature’ dish.

Our waiter Jonathan was absolutely lovely and when they realised they forgot to bring out a candle with our desserts (we were celebrating a bday I had noted in the booking) they gave us a loaf of bread from their bakery. Thank you to the St John team for a truly special evening!

Over hyped, small portions, £34 for 2 tiny slices of Roast Hogget ( teenage lamb) -ridiculous. £100 a head for cocktail, 1 bottle of cremant wine, and 3 courses. Ouch! Would be happy to pay that much if it felt worth it, but it didn't. Felt gouged.

We expected much more from this restaurant. The furniture is very simple within an industrial setting, it is small and noisy, and poor service. The waitress brought us the wrong drinks, the food was not special and the staff started cleaning up their working space while the customers were still eating ( we went for lunch).

Our first time back to St John in a while....we last came well over 10 years ago!...and it is still a flagship for modern British food. The dishes were full of flavour, brilliantly original and perfectly cooked. Fantastic! We will be back again for sure, hopefully sooner than last time!

Iconic restaurant with one Michelin star, where you can find apparently simple dishes that have surprising taste. I eated the best spinach of my life as side of Rabbit offal, and a luxurious welsh rarebit. Very good service.
