Sunday Lunch at St. John with my wife and the food as usual was excellent , Fergus knows his food and you have to try even the most wildest sounding dishes as you will be astounded by the taste sensations you get . Mussels with cucumber and dill and cods roe with potato cake and egg quickly vanished off our plates which was soon followed by Skate wing with brown shrimps in brown butter Which was the best I’ve ever had and my wife’s main of roast squash with barley and sprout tops was excellent also ,who would think sprout tops could be delicious when combined this way . Deserts of raspberry pavlova , Armagnac soaked walnut cake with brandy cream and pevensey blue cheese with raisin bread accompanied by wine and a nice pale ale plus a fegroni rounded off the meal ,with attentive friendly staff What more could you ask for .
An all time classic in Shoreditch - love the atmosphere
I've been going to this restaurant for nearly 20yrs and it never fails to deliver! Authentic to its heart. Brilliant food and wine combined with a great ethos.
Had a really great lunch here, standouts were the skate and the madeleines.
Laid back but not noisy atmosphere, swift and friendly service, superb food that is simple and ingredient-led.
More than half the daily specials were not available early on a Saturday night. The door closer on the front door was broken meaning we ate in a cold draft. Some of the food was very good, and other pretty ordinary. The wines were nothing to write home about. The noise level makes conversation on a table of 4 difficult. We had a good evening but I would not return. There are plenty of better restaurants.
Best pie I have ever had (spicy venison) - I love ❤️ St. John’s it’s my favourite place to eat in the whole world.
Incredibly noisy, service is on the minimalist side, some dishes ok others really poorly cooked, in general overpriced not planning to go back
Great food, great service, great ambiance. The game pie was my favourite
Good dinner overall but slightly overpriced. Had much better food experiences in this restaurant a few years ago
Disappointing. Food was not very good yet pricey. Wine wasn’t great either. Service was good.
Excellent food. Even more excellent service. My friend ordered the Mallard but was not cooked to his liking so he was unable to finish it. Probably his fault he did not specify how he liked it.
We never asked for a refund or exchange but St John's did not bill us for the duck.
We did not find out until we had left the restaurant. That's integrity. And we appreciate.
We will return for sure.
Amazing food as always, service was a little slow as the restaurant was very busy. Really enjoyed it and the ambiance was great as always
Mustard with bacon and potatoe pie far too strong masked the flavour of pie completely. Best course the dessert.
Pidgeon was nice.
Always a Guarantee…. Poetic trotter pie ❤️ Every time we come back to London we book for a dinner in Bread and wine ! Super reccomended
The food was very good, in particular the mains. Service was busy and it was often a bit hard to catch someone's attention. Atmosphere was cosy but the room was so loud I was struggling to hear the person sat next to me.
I would recommend going there for the food. The Madeleines as a dessert were outstanding.
The St John restaurants have always been my favourite of all. I hadn’t been to one since before Covid. It was as always perfect.
Just love this place. Incredible food and service. They were so kind when I’d made a booking error and as they gently kicked us out well after midnight after a brilliant evening!
Amazing food, wine, and the service was outstanding (loved the recommendations the lady who helped us made!)
A very special place. There were great items on the menu; the braised hare, beetroot, and pickled walnut was a triumph. Save room for pudding too; they are as delicious and interesting as the starters and mains.
Brilliant service and food was as great as I expected
Fantastic dinner, as always. The hake head was superb!
Superb food and thoughtful, friendly service. Don't miss the eccles cake :)
Another great meal at St John while I was in London by myself , for work . A very warm welcome by the front of floor staff and great service and warm welcome by the waiting staff . The smoked mackerel with horseradish and sweet red cabbage came out looking like a Salvador Dali painting and tasted amazing ,then I had the radicchio with pevensey blue cheese , and anchovy dressing which was gorgeous and just when you thought it a bit too intense sweet roasted onion balanced it all,out .
For dessert I had bread and butter pudding with a butterscotch caramel sauce which was simply historic and the best I’ve ever had , with a scoop of cream on the side to give respite from the richness of the caramel it’s one dessert to definately try .
This is my third visit to St. John bread and wine over the years and this was one of the best as one massive improvement I noticed this time compared to when I first went years ago was the staff , how friendly , smiling and welcoming plus since I was by myself one staff member who came out with my dish spent time talking to me about the food and how I was enjoying my visit to London . Fergus Henderson s dishes are a joy to try , No need for pompous displays here as the food speaks for itself With combinations you never thought of trying . I’m sure the staff must have thought I was a food critic when I walked in with my Rolled up food magazine Sat at a table for one and if I was one for real I would simply say ,well done St John ,you are on top form . I look foward to returning here with my wife for Sunday lunch in October
We came for a birthday lunch here and it was perfect. Well priced for truly excellent food. The service was attentive but not overbearing. Really helpful where needed on the menu. We were completely stuffed at the end and only a shame we didn't have room for dessert. I'll be back here in a heartbeat.
As always St John's is wonderful. My favourite place.
Very good place for casual dinner, specially brunch and some bits
I have been St. John's a few times before, this one being the first time since the pandemic. I must say the quality of the service and food has stepped down a notch.
The food was good don't get me wrong, but it didn't quite have the same impact. I hope it could improve as it was one of my favorite restaurants in London.
Always an absolute treat I popped in for a late lunch on Friday & had smoked tongue, pate on toast with prunes & brown shrimp salad. Took a batch of freshly baked Madeleine’s home. Faultless.
Outstanding and interesting food as always. This place never fails to please.
Unique experience, fabulous food and very attentive and friendly staff.
Exceptional food. Staff very friendly, nice relaxed atmosphere. Great beer as well.
My partner and I LOVE St. John's Bread & Wine. The food is unique and nothing short of amazing. This past time we had a pie to share and it was one of the best pies we had ever had. This is a place we will continue to come to again and again.
On a note of variety, I would not recommend St. John's to any vegetarians or picky eaters. They serve unique foods and a lot of meat, if this isn't your thing then this restaurant isn't for you. Instead I recommend you go to their bakery and have some of their baked goods that are also AMAZING.
Such a great evening, fantastic service, food & atmosphere. In the words of Arnold Swartzanegger... WE’LL BE BACK
Amazing food, fantastic service and great atmosphere.. top marks all round!
Excellent food, good wine list and charming service
The food and drinks are amazing. I also love the concept of using all the parts of the animal to provide a tasty meal. My only critique would be that the sides are brought at different times (or at least the day I went) and we weren't able to enjoy them with the main dishes.
amazing restaurant with fantastic food and atmosphere :) great value for money too. I would definitely visit again.
Making a decision about WHAT on the menu you're going to order is always the hardest part as it's all so brilliant. Go hungry, and curious, and without anything planned for the next morning...
