About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Great for fine wines
After 14-plus years, St. Jack has become an iconic staple of the PDX dining scene, in the wonderfully walkable "Slabtown" neighborhood of NW Portland. Chef and restaurateur Aaron Barnett's unique menu features rustic dishes from the countryside of Lyon - the heart and soul of French cooking.

We are excited to offer full service inside, as well as outside on our sidewalk tables (weather permitting). We also allow walk-up guests as space allows - Fridays and Saturdays it is highly recommended to make reservations.

Our full menu is also available at the bar counter.

We were greeted in the alcove of the front door by a friendly gentleman who seated us at a window table. He wished us Happy Anniversary, (I’m guessing our daughter gave them that info since we were using the gift certificate our children gave us.) Our server, Andrew, came and introduced himself, offered menus and let us peruse. He returned to take our cocktail order and then returned with complementary glasses of champagne to acknowledge our anniversary! Wow! Didn’t expect that. The cocktails were remarkable. My husband said the Manhattan was the best he’s ever had- and he’s had a FEW! We ordered the oysters-6, warm olives, endive salad, scallops and foie gras. My personal favorite were the scallops. There were 3 on the half-shell, perfectly cooked and seasoned. My only suggestion would be to bring the foie gras en croute closer to room temp. After we tasted, we gave it a few minutes and then it was divine! The staff were very attentive-in the best way. We were delightfully satisfied and will certainly go back!!

The fois gras and rabbit were very very good The scallops were good The himachi crudo was very well flavored but the fish itself did not appear to be the freshest which detracted from the dish Overall we were very satisfied with our experience and will return

For the second year in a row, this is our restaurant of choice on our anniversary. Their preparation of Northwest Fish is impeccable. The Oysters were so plump, sweet and fresh that all we desired was a squeeze of lemon. The Halibut was moist and firm, served beautifully with Spring Pea Tendrils. The Gougere filled with Cheese Mousse melted in the mouth. The plump Asparagus spears with creamy French Cheese were fresh and perfectly grilled. The Chocolate Bun and Lemon Curd Desserts were as beautiful as they tasted. Interesting Wines by the glass that pair well with the food are available. We felt pampered by the service which was friendly but not obtrusive. The only downside for us was the drafty room which eventually warmed when the windows were closed. We plan to return next year for another spectacular meal.

The best classic french meal I've had in a long time. Everything was delicious and the asparagus was divine. The madelines were a surprise and our service was excellent.

Lovely evening at St jack. Service was good. Ashley in particular was very helpful. The food was amazing. We loved the gougeres and the tartare appetizers. We all had steak frites. the frites are really outstanding and the bearnaise sauce was beautiful.

Mediocre food, pretentious atmosphere, overpriced, horrendously long wait for food to arrive. Silly waste of money.

Outstanding food and service. We sat at a table in the bar area, understandably noisier than the more formal dining room. Rabbit with mustard sauce was amazing. Another diner had perfectly cooked Halibut. We shared all 3 desserts on the menu, and all were great. Our server, Brook, was excellent.
