Glad to dine again at St Jack!
Incredible food, but the service is what made it stand out to my guest and me. Shelby, our waiter, was OUTSTANDING! What a nice guy, and what an excellent server. The whole experience was first class: food, wine, and service. I’ll definitely make this one of my mainstays each time I’m back in Portland.
Excellent food and service. Poached prawns were especially good!
We love St Jack. Our first ever visit not sitting at the chef’s counter and seeing what all is going on. And Covid. Waitress seem distracted having to manage the bar delaying our salad course. They left windows open, which was nice from a Covid standpoint, but frankly cold. Was not our best visit, but the food, especially the salads, are worth going back again and again.
While I miss the full menu, St. Jack did a great job of outdoor dining. I was craving lamb, and their lamb chop hit the spot!
I rarely write a review but we were very disappointed with our meal and experience . Poor service and overall value. Servers unprofessional- very unwelcoming. We were seated at a table on the corner when other more desirable tables were available.
We tried to order a drink and starter and were abruptly told we could only order drinks, not our starter. Oysters delivered without a word - we had to ask where they were from which isn’t typical when oysters are served. My husband had lamb which was lukewarm and lacked flavor. My halibut entree was delicious but not worth the price. Overall underwhelming.
Love this place. Great outdoor seating situation. 😊😊😊
We love St Jack. Best burger in town!
Steak was over cooked. I sent it back, chef and manager blamed me claiming that it was an opinion. They really did not apologize or even offer up a cup of coffee. Wife ate her whole entre before my re-fired and then under cooked steak arrived. Again, restaurant blamed me. Not a pleasant anniversary dinner. i have been to St Jack's on many occasions and was shocked at the lack of customer care. Wait service was excellent, management was terrible.
1st real restaurant dinner out since March to celebrate our daughter's 16th birthday and it was absolutely fabulous! St Jack's is always a favorite but I was a little nervous thinking it would all feel a bit awkward. The staff was fantastic and put us at ease from the moment we arrived - everyone in masks and so warm and welcoming. Tables outfitted with hand sanitizer and digital menus (scan the QR code on your phone) set outside and spaced well apart. The best part was the fabulous food we have missed so much. They are serving a full menu and we ordered all our favorites - oysters, chilled shrimp, butter lettuce salad, steak frites, their amazing bread & butter plus a special halibut entree that was to die for. They are even making the mini madeleines to order and served them right out of the oven with a birthday candle for our daughter - she was over the moon... and so were we. It was the best night we have had in such a long time. Thank you so much!
Disappointing. We've long been fans. Untrained servers. No mussels (long a feature). Overpriced from pre-pandemic levels, particularly the wines. I sympathize with the stress caused by COVID and we'll try again after the restaurant can hopefully return to normal.
Everything we ordered, with the exception of Oysters, were overly salted and didn’t have any balance of flavor. Halibut was nicely crusted but just way too salty to eat. The lamb was cooked right but again was overly salted to the point we were getting dizzy. Oysters was very good tho. Also, $4 for 2 small pieces of Baguette that wasn’t even heated? $39 for Halibut that was so salty that it was inedible? Bad food, crazy prices and indifferent service.
Outdoor seating only. But those pomme frites are amazing and so is the dessert. It's worth a trip just for that.
Excellent food for the value. Enjoyed the atmosphere too. We had the Tarte and the Burger.
Lovely atmosphere, eclectic menu with nice choices. Good flavors. Pricey. Great date spot
Items on web site menu were not available.
Lamb was undercooked.
It rained for the first time in a month and since there was only outside seating we had to wait for a covered table. The food was great as usual, as was the service, under the conditions , with the rain.
Great restaurant! Food was amazing and drinks were equally as good! Thanks for the hospitality!
We went to celebrate a birthday.
Felt very safe with the COVID19 precautions. Friendly and attentive staff. Sat on patio, so a little noisy but worth it to be able to be out and keep all safe.
Great to see St. Jack's open again for table service. One of my favorite spots in PDX
One of my favorite Portland restaurants, opened for the first time since lockdown. That in mind there were some issues, drinks were constantly late and we had to remind 3 times.
I didn't feel the experience reflected in the price. Hopefully they will get it right and I will be back.
Halibut was delicious.
Fantastic French cuisine that was all well seasoned, the halibut was exceptional when an amazing green sauce. Would recommend the burger as well!
Our meal was excellent as always. We started with the butler leaf lettuce salad and jumbo shrimp as well as the tomato soup and all were excellent. The salad was bigger than expected! We happened to be there on a slower night and the kitchen inadvertently made an extra mussels and frite order - our waitress came over to offer it as an appetizer gratis - what a treat! The mussels are always excellent.
We opted out of the March prix fix menu since there were a couple other favorites we wanted to enjoy. My wife had the and I had the sea bass - both were prepared very well. If I had to try to find one little gripe it would be that the bread offered to our table had a charge attached. When spending as much as we did the bread should come free but other than that it was a great experience as usual. PS - The fresh baked madeleines are to die for!
Nice to have this restaurant 1/2 block from my condo.
We started with blood orange house made soda which was delicious. The salad course was one scrumptious butter lettuce with vinaigrette and a spectacular smoked mussel Caesar. My date ordered the stuffed duck breast which was so good he asked for bread to sop up what remained after he devoured the plate. My order was the vegetarian option, ricotta dumplings, every bite was better than the last. The service was attentive without being overbearing. The only annoyance was the ambient sound level was deafening making quiet conversation quite impossible.
Went during Portland Dining Month to celebrate a birthday. My companion ordered the Seared Foie Gras appetizer. Wow... outstanding! His entreé was the Stuffed Duck Breast, he loved it. For dessert he had the Black Lime Tart... is was excellent. I ordered the Portland Dining Month menu. The vichysoisse was generous, if a bit subtle for my tastes. The duck neck was delicious (warning: presented with the head!). The Madeleines were fine, but not near as special as the other dessert. The coffee was outstanding!
We gathered for a table of ten. It’s not too noisy at all. Mussels were fantastic.
The Portland Dining Month menu was very mediocre. The portions were small perhaps aligning with a $33 price tag. For me, the best course was the soup. It was pretty downhill after that. Madeleines were the dessert which was in the menu last year. Being a French restaurant, they clearly could have expanded their dessert repertoire. Won’t be going back any time soon to the restaurant but the bar is always enjoyable in terms if the selection, food quality, price and the sommelier’s wine choices
Attention by staff minimal. Took too long to be noticed by the door/host station. We had a reservation. Food very slow in coming to table. Not a very lively or friendly staff. Off night we supposed. Very few diners. From order to arrival entree took 1.5 hours. Starters were order of 6 oysters (recipient had intestinal issues overnight) and overly vinegar-ed carrot salad for the other guest. Shared duck breast and totally delicious black cod.
First time at St. Jack as we try all the finer dining locations around portland, OR.

A great menu and fantastic execution. We loved every dish.
St. Jack is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. This year's Dining Month menu is a tremendous value! Choose the dining room for a quiet conversation with your date or a business meeting. Small and larger groups will have a great time in the adjoining bar.
So great! The space, the service, the menu, drinks, all top notch.
We sat at the counter and enjoyed a terrific meal. Service was informative, friendly and efficient. The butter lettuce salad was enormous and fresh, with just the right amount of dressing. Steelhead crudo was a perfect balance of celeriac, fish, and lemon—very fresh and light. Gnocchi were unusually light in texture but quite flavorful, and the shepherd’s pie (dinner special) was piping hot, full of meats and vegetables, rich and decadent. We brought Clos Vougeot to celebrate my birthday, and the wine service was perfect. St Jack is pricey but you get what you pay for, and while it’s louder than we would like, we will be back!
Delicious food! Outstanding drinks! Awesome service!
Very creative menu, nice wine list and our server was very well informed about each dish. Fantastic sauces and attention to detail.
Staff took our order and then promptly forgot about us. Our appetizers came and I then had to ask several times where our drinks were. Still never took our dinner order for a while after that. Food was great though.
Our favorite go to for special roccasions restaurant! Ask for Trevia!
Wonderful service on Valentine’s dinner. Limited tasting menu, but what we had was wonderful. Will go back, great for special occasion. Def pricey, with tip for 2 we dropped over $300, but we ordered extravagantly. A lovely experience, and very friendly staff.
