Service and ambience is good. Good is average, nothing stands out really. The menu is quite limited, majority is “basic” although they all have fancy names. Not recommended among the many restaurants in the area.

Everything was very nice. The way I would have given 5 stars is if the food had completely wowed me. I had the Mushroom Vol Au Vent with sheeps cheese. The pastry was beautifully made, light, crispy, soft inside. The mushrooms were wonderful (but not in balance with the sheeps cheese) so the sheeps cheese was the star and its flavor overpowered everything else. It would have been even better had the cheese been used to enhance the mushrooms and the pastry rather than be the key flavor. That said my husband and friend had the other classic dish, Steak Frites. They both loved the simplicity and flavor. We started with Gougeres (a French cheese puff of sorts) and these stole the show for use on this evening. We each got one. They looks simple, then are filled with butternut squash, Mimolette (a cheese traditionally produced around the city of Lille, France), and Espelette which is a red pepper from southwest France (Basque country). How it was prepared was beautifully. It was both savory and sweet. What balanced the flavors out was the outer shell which contained them. It was more like a crust than a shell actually and it was not light like a puff is - but it all worked together so well. The crust was sweet and cut thick, then inside the soft squash, cheese, and pepper filling was such a savory contrast - it was remarkable.

Overall the food was delicious and the wait staff was great. A few minor things - the table we sat at was closet to the exit and every time someone came in or out, a cold draft followed and my 75 year old mother was freezing and kept her coat on the entire time. We mentioned it and the staff was apologetic but there wasn’t anything they could do. The only other thing is that the escargot has a balsamic sauce on it rather than a garlic butter or lemon butter sauce - which is the just different than any other way I’ve had it. The steak was amazing and so was the mussels!! Their bread was a delicious rye/sourdough combo that was perfect.

We'd only been in for drinks in the past, and we we're very impressed (great drinks, knowledgeable bartenders, cool vibe). Somehow, we had no idea that there was a fabulous restaurant in the next room! On this second visit, we had amazing cocktails (again) with our french dinner (salad, foie gras, mushroom vol-au vent), and it was all lovely/amazing. Petite madelaines and a chocolate tart for dessert! Both the kitchen team and the servers were all "on it", like a crack military team working together. We'll be going back. <3

Super short staffed… slow , disappointing. Extremely tiny portions. I split a meal with a. Friend and they didn’t mention that it is way too small to split. There were 2 pieces of Guinea hen about as big as 2 French fries. No joke… for $44.00 I have had great experiences here in the past but they are WAY off target now. Hopefully it was a one off. The service was beyond slow. They were short staffed but at some point, don’t fill tables or let people know. It felt like a really bad joke- that cost over $300 all in- and we left starving. Bad news St Jack! I’ve grown up in the restaurant business so I am usually really understanding but this was complete BS. Period.

Our first visit on New Year's Eve. We had the prix fixe three course meal with wine pairings, so this wasn't cheap! But worth every dollar. We felt like we were dining at our favorite restaurant in France. The food was excellent. The leadoff foie gras tart was paired with an exquisite wine. In fact, the sommelier (who was working hard pouring the pairings and doing the wine description) made excellent choices. His enthusiasm for the wines was infectious. For all the food, including palate cleansers, we were full but not stuffed and the wine pairings were the perfect amount. We'll definitely come back on a regular night and check out the usual menu.

No indoor space to wait, and we had to stand outside in the cold for 15 minutes past our reservation time. We had reserved a table in the restaurant but we were seated in the bar area, which was disappointing. There was also a cold draft that kept hitting us, as we were seated right by the bar area entrance. Food was average, and service was very underwhelming.

Fantastic food! The Petit Plats stood out: escargot, pate de campagne, tarte tatin, and a sausage, baked pear, and puréed potato (with a lot of butter!) dish … wow! The entres weee also delicious. And the Madeline for dessert was perfect. The outdoor patio was not as nice as we expected. With so many restaurants doing great outdoor dining these days it seemed that these folks didn’t put much effort into it. The most minimal slat folding chairs and little effort at insulation or decor. They did bring big fuzzy blankets for us which was a nice touch. And the heaters worked well once they got going. Our server was initially a bit out of sorts - maybe because we pointed out that the heater wasn’t working? 🤷‍♀️ But once she got that fixed and we ordered a lot of food and wine we got along fine. So… a bumpy start but a pleasant evening overall. I won’t do patio dining there again. But I’d happily eat inside.

The server was upset we didn’t order a full dinner but the choices were very limited. So, we were rushed even though we had a few appetizers & drinks. Our bread was forgotten. The bar area was very noisy & it was difficult to keep a conversation. The dishes were small but overpriced (we ordered the lettuce salad, chicken mousse pate & oysters). I’ve been to St. Jack several times & that’s why I recommended this place to a friend to meet for dinner. I will only go back for the oysters & drinks.

Excellent experience from start to finish. We were greeted warmly at the door and seated immediately..it was my son’s birthday and every person who we dealt with wished him a happy birthday. Our server (I cant remember her name) was incredibly well versed in the menu items and provided great service without being intrusive. With so many restaurants having problems with hiring and keeping people, St. Jack must be doing something right- we were blown away not only by the number of service people but how incredibly well trained they were. 10/10 we will definitely be back.

This was too celebrate the season , after getting our vacation cancelled because of the weather. We enjoyed our experience at St Jack's. The food was excellent the gougeres were outstanding , the beef tartare was the best I have ever eaten. My husband ordered the mushroom vol-au-vent and it was very good. My son and I both had the mussels and clams with french bread -- it was good but for a main course rather stingy-- when I have eaten moules/frites in France the dish is generous with the bivalues , here not so much. The deserts were also very yummy my son had the baked alaska and I had the floating meringue

The server was very nice at the beginning of our meal, and helped pick out a nice wine to start the meal, but he became a bit hard to find as the meal went on. Perhaps this was due to the kitchen being really slow to prepare different plates. The oysters and romanesco were excellent, and the tarte tatin was outstanding but the king salmon was a $45 major disappointment. It was bland, served with some veggies that vaguely resembled asparagus and celery, but you need a chain saw to cut through. The fish tasted like farmed salmon but was supposedly Columbia river. If you have ever had Alaska king salmon, don't order this salmon as you will experience a major disappointment. Overall, I would recommend St. Jack, but stay clear of the salmon unless they find a new supplier and a better way to prepare it!

Fantastic experience, traditional French Cuisine done with subtle twists. Flavors were amazing with great complementary balance. Oysters were delightfully fresh, the curry sauce offered with the chilled prawns was sensational, the golden beets complimented the beef tartare, escargot beautiful light yet flavorful herb butter. Finally the Steak Frites was executed perfectly!!! When you go to an American Restaurant the burger is the extreme test……..can you simply cook the most basic item to perfection. When you visit a French Restaurant you look for the execution of their Steak Frites, it was outstanding!!! Perfectly cooked to our request of medium rear, the French Fries were hot freshly made and the sauce to accompany the steak was amazing. We enjoyed our meal immensely, highly recommend.

I guess we are in the new era of inflation. The food was good. It wasn't great and yet the price was high. If the food had been truly great, that'd be a different story. But I didn't think the value was there. In addition, I ordered steak frittes. Both were too heavily salted and I'm the kind of person that likes a lot of salt. Lastly, it was cool inside and I and some other patrons were wearing their coats. I really don't want to have to wear a coat while I eat my dinner.

I now restaurants are having a hard time, so it is not without remorse that I write the following....the waiter missed one of our dish orders, the table had to turn for the next reservation, the arctic air blew into our space every time the front door opened, even though they have a curtain there, the curtain did not rise to the ceiling, and worse even, the noise level in the packed room was abhorrent, deafening, and made it impossible to have a relaxed conversational experience. St. Jacks was one of my steady go-to Portland neighborhood spots......no more. sad.
