St. Helena Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Our experience at the St. Helena Bistro was mixed. The food was very good; for openers, I think that was the freshest and best chicken tortilla soup I've ever had! The avocado salad was also delicious. The downside was the service - there pretty much was none. We were seated, placed our order and then left to fend for ourselves.
Great little restaurant in Napa Valley. LITTLE being the operative word but don't let that keep you away. I think total inside seatng might be about less than 50 and about three or four four-tops outside. We made our rezo through Open Table and we were seated immediately upon arrival. Service was friendly, quick and accurate. Our table had eggplant parmesan, avacado bacon burger, crispy chicken burger, and avacado salad, truffles and regular fries. No one left any food left on their plates! As we had been wine tasting earlier, we opted for iced tea for drinks. All of the food was very well prepared, fresh and tasty. Highly recommend. Just wish I had remembered to take pictures! Sorry!!!
Smaller establishment with the option to dine inside or outside on the patio. Variety of casual food options which is great for lunch. We made reservations in advance for Saturday at 12:30 but could have easily just showed up without issue as the restaurant didn't get busy until 1/1:30. Found parking fairly easily on the surround side/back street behind the restaurant.
The name of this restaurant is perfect because its not really big enough to be a restaurant but a bistro. The server was very good to us. All the food was hot and tasted like it was just made. After ordering the main course it took alittle bit of time to come, but when you get it you will understand. VERY tasty!! And the gelato was very good. Don"t expect normal St. Helena high price on the bill as they have resonable prices and the quality of the food is perfect!
I am routing for this restaurant, but take it with its baggage. This is a small space and seems a struggling restaurant. The service was very good. The Napa salad excellent. The Caesar salad OK. The entrees were quite good. We were four and had a selection. Shrimp Capallini and Salmon especially good. But it has lots of hard surfaces so sound carries and while I like other people, I don't need to hear everything they say. And the touch of a TV screen in the back sort of threw me. If you want a sports bar, OK. If not, and you are in upscale Sonoma, why?
Very nice service, food came out quickly, staff was attentive.
Portion size was appropriate to quality and cost, my friend ordered fish and chips, and while she said they were good, she said the portion size was tiny compared to the cost. My husband said the chocolate shake was delicious, my salmon Cesear salad was great, my friend liked her blta and salad. We'd probably come again, and try out the appetizers.
St. Helena Bistro has become our go-to restaurant in northern Napa Valley. The food is excellent and consistently well-prepared. It is a hidden gem in St. Helena. It is not a cutting edge gourmet place and does not have an extensive wine list (offers free corkage on the first bottle for locals) but we've never had a bad, or even average, meal here, which allows it to stand out over every other place in St. Helena or Calistoga. We highly recommend it.
The hostess that seated unfortunately was rude and told us that they were in a time crunch and that our reservation to sit outside might be rushed or cut short even though the restaurant was EMPTY. She gave us attitude from the moment we walked in even though we had reservations and was the first ones there for Mother's Day brunch. Made the experience awful from the start. Very unfortunate to experience bad service when we were moms going there with our children on what should have been a special day for us.
Always, reliable, unpretentious, and delicious. Unlike some restaurants in the area, they really seem to care you are there, and deliver great food and value. Grilled artichokes. Calamari. Lobster ravioli. And the eggplant parmesan -- just order it and thank me later. I don't know of a better version anywhere. Look forward to going back again.
We arrived to catch dinner before a late jazz show. Seated at an outdoor table with music pipped in we could easily pretend we were at a Paris bistro. Our waiter Eduardo was attentive but not hovering...perfect. When I did not order alcohol he insisted "just s splash" for me to try . His selection! I thought why not, we are here in napa valley...one of the foremost wine regions of the world. Well oh my! The "splash" was an exquisite Chardonnay from a nearby winery. I was stunned that even my rather novice palette could distinguish the excellence of this selection. We went on to enjoy a prosecco fish and chips, delegate fish with just the right amount of batter, an avocado salad, perhaps a smidge heAvy on the olive oil and not enough avocados, Abe a truly wonderful grilled artichoke with a romanesco sauce. STisfying portions a lovely wait staff and a great wine. What more could you ask!
Nice location with patio but too cold for outside dining when we went. Very noisy inside but ok. Wine was overpriced and eggplant parmigiana was too greasy, tasted like old cooking oil. Linguine and meatballs on special that night was was ok. Can't say we'd return with other outstanding choices for dining in St Helena.
All the outdoor dining was taken when we arrived, did make a reservation on Open Table and if I wanted to sit outside at the time I arrived I would have been told that there would be a wait. Plenty of room to sit inside, I think there needs to be a mechanism for a reservation to sit outside, otherwise why do you need to reserve a table? The food was good and the service was good. The iced tea was great!!
I ate for the first time @ St. Helena Bistro with out-of-town family. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and very nice menu options. I had the grilled salmon, which was cooked to perfection. My family members enjoyed their dinner choices as well. I will definitely return to this lovely gem of a restaurant during my next visit to Napa Valley.
