We are also about ten minutes walk from Waterloo Station and Covent Garden.
Love the Scratch Menu ethos and execution - the room is stunning and an ideal venue for sophisticated pre theatre dining. With Scratch, you are at the behest of the chef's hands so wouldn't advise for the fussy eaters. Great space and lovely staff
Terrible service and bland food
Lovely restaurant- loved the Scratch concept and the food was delicious.
The service was so poor that it overshadowed any positives from the food.
30 minute wait for our drinks, after asking no fewer than 4 servers.
25 minutes to get our starter from the set menu, a soup.
50 minutes to get our main dishes from set menu, received wrong item.
1 hour 15 minutes for a starter and main is far too long for lunch.
Great setting -good food but pricing has got rather too fierce unless you have set menu
If you are tempted to ask 'How does she do it?", don't. It's clear: Skye Gyngell sources her food from a biodynamic farm and everything, but EVERYTHING you eat is fresh from the farm and then perfectly prepared. Add to that the most beautiful, serene dining room in all of London, bread and butter made fresh on the premises daily, wonderful service and reasonable prices and you really do have it all. It's sheer perfection. The surprise ingredient - tempura lemon slices to accompany a wonderful dish of onglet served rare with little vegetables and an anchovy sauce, flavours that blended perfectly. We regretted only one thing: that we don't live here and have to wait 12 months to come again. If not for that, we'd haunt the place.
Wonderful food and service. A special mention for low noise level - how rare is these days to be able to have a conversation where you don’t need to shout in order to be heard.
Regarding the food, some dishes are on the light side (the beetroot starter for example), but there are enough options on the menu to make up for it. Overall the food matches the decor: it’s very “clean”, superbly presented, and by all looks, well sourced.
I just booked it again for next month so I clearly loved it.
Very delicious food. Pleasant staff
The service is great. Attention to detail. Ask to have the wine waiter advise you when you have picked your food. Amazing info & super great choices. Come hungry if you want to make it through 3 courses.
The restaurant stands its ground really well in such a beautiful venue as Somerset House. The decoration is beautiful, the service (apart from our first waitress who seemed quite stern), was very friendly and meticulous, and the food was an absolute delight. Great evening.
Great service and superb food
Would highly recommend
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal,I admire Skye ,My wife is an Aussie girl to.
Delicious food served by charming staff in a glorious room.
The space, food, service and wine are amazing. The Jantara orange wine was delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience!
Service was slow
Perfect trip this time with my guest swooning over the starter (beetroot) and main course (lamb). I had veggie for all course which was excellent and so fresh. Imaginative place with lovely setting esp early when it’s not too full. Sommelier was much better this time round.
Booked Spring for our anniversary meal, which I noted when we made the booking. When we arrived, I was a little disappointed that we were put on a table in the middle of the room, facing a large table of 8 business people. There are some lovely two person window booths - I asked if we could move to the empty one which they said was booked. An hour later, two men arrived and took the table for what looked like a business dinner. A bit disappointing, but perhaps fair enough. Service was quite slow, food was overpriced for what it was, and the dining room has too many tables. It is a beautiful room, and would benefit from fewer, larger tables. This would help with the atmosphere I think, which felt a bit odd with half of the tables empty and some tables all squashed together with people sat at them. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, but there was something not quite right about the atmosphere. And definitely not great for an anniversary meal.
KY husband was seriously ill after eating the monkfish with mussels
MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT. BEST FOOD IN LONDON. CREATIVE AND IMAGINATIVE
Fundamentally good food well cooked and well presented, with nice touches, and in a well lit gorgeous space. One of my favourite London restaurants.
The service was very good but my meal was not worth the money
As a first visit for a birthday celebration , this was an excellent choice and I now look forward to
a more normal dining experience. The size and variety of menu seems particularly appealing.
Delusions of grandeur. Good location but food, wine and service no better than a mid-range high street chain. Wouldn't go again.
As always an outstanding experience and a must on the London's restaurant agenda.
A very grown up place for good food with real care and attention to detail.
After a warm welcome , a visit to the powder room, very clean , pretty and spacious, taken by lovely person to our table, properly dressed, interesting menu, lovely food very well presented...
The only problem was the noise level ...
Will go again but as late as possible to avoid noisy crowd!
Delicious food in a very nice dining room at reasonable prices for the set meal. That said, the service was intrusive - constant pouring of wine and water which interrupted our conversation. Also, before we left at around 2.45 a waitress was already going round the restaurant spraying the tablecloths with water to get out the creases. Not smart and somewhat unrelaxing.
We enjoyed the pre theatre Scratch Menu, which, although it is a set menu, was very delicious and very good value. The room and the decor are gorgeous and the service excellent and friendly.
The space is the best part of Spring. We found the courses interesting but no better than other restaurants we've experienced elsewhere. The evening was £230 for the two of us and we left feeling disappointed.
Delicious food . The scratch menu using up leftover ingredients is an inspired idea. And such good value at £20 for three courses. We booked a table for 6:15pm and assumed we would be turfed out quickly as we had chosen the scratch menu but this did not happen. We stayed until 9:30pm. Great service and a beautiful room to dine in. Will definitely be back.
We had the set lunch menu. Selection limited. Quality and service outstanding.
Our finest and most memorable restaurant experiences worldwide have one thing in common; behind the great food and wine there is a relaxed, attentive and professional service that is completely unpretentious. The staff at Spring were friendly, knowledgeable and just attentive enough to make this a fantastic dining experience. The dining room is beautiful, open and spacious, and perfectly complements the amazing food. The flavors were all perfectly balanced, every mouthful was a delight, and the menu is a perfect showcase for seasonal, fresh and local ingredients. Our sommelier did a great job guiding us to wine that worked with the food, and helped us discover a couple of new favorites.
We will be back!
Met all expectations. Food was very good, ambiance was equal, service was exceptional
Spring is exactly the exact name for its fresh , crisp, delicate taste , decor and ambiance . As a celiac this was a treat to be able to eat almost all and for alternatives to so well thought through .
A perfect experience for a London lunch a pre gallery visit or simply walk along river bank
Our first visit. The food was delightful and the room one of the most comfortable in London. We will be back.
Great location in heart of the West End but lots of room and oh so quiet. A classy venue to boot. Service excellent and food pretty damn good, the gazpacho was full of crunched almonds - 'delish'. Didn't try the wine list but copious quantities of sparkling water.
Our second visit to Spring- first was three years ago- and I was wondering whether it would match the superb experience we had on our first visit. Short answer is yes, on all counts. I love the ambiance, which is spacious and softly lit. Service is great at every level from the minute you walk in the door- staff members are sharp, fun, and knowledgeable. We were a party of four and thus tried many dishes, all of which were excellent- interesting mixes of flavors without any sense of the chef 'trying too hard' to be different. The wine list is a bit eclectic- several reds from the Languedoc but none from the southern Rhone, for example- but there were plenty of good choices that didn't break the bank. Overall a great experience- relatively expensive but worth it.
A delicious meal with excellent wine and great Soviet made for a wonderful night—we would certainly return!
Exquisite experience, the ambiance, the service and the outstanding food. Take your time to enjoy this special place.
Glorious food, wonderful staff, spectacular surroundings. This place is a winner. Shame that it's not going to take reservations after 10 pm, it's magnificently well-placed for a stylish after theatre dinner.
