Delicious, but ambience was disappointing. We were seated by the kitchen door in a small room that was loud. Service was not stellar as one would expect at a fine dining establishment.
Amazing! New menu is fantastic!!
The formerly excellent food seems to have gone downhill. The grilled baby octopus was rubbery, the lamb was overpowered by the Korean BBQ sauce/toppings, and the grits were mushy, definitely not the slow-cooked Southern grits one would expect.
We are never disappointed when we go to Spring House. Chef Tim’s menus are always creative and appealing. And we LOVE the renovations to the bar area!!!
Historic building, great food and service - all around wonderful experience. Loved the tiki drink. Will definitely go back.
Service and food really great!
Last meal before daughter starting university. Food was fantastic. Filet was perfectly cooked, as were tenderloin and lamb. Service was great.
Top Quality food served in an artistic manner
Andrew was the best server we've seen in the Triad.
The meal was sublime and our treatment was near that of gladiators most decorated.
A lovely dining experience and great ambiance!
This historical home is beautiful and has a nice garden area. The bar area is quiet and relaxing. The food was excellent and our entree was accompanied with a side that is only prepared at this restaurant. Although a little pricey, it was worth it for the occasion! If we had been at a different table I would have given ambiance 5 stars.
Best New York strip steak I have had in a long time.
Such a hidden gem right in downtown Winston Salem. The food was so good I wanted to order a lunch for the next day TO-GO! Such a great wine selection and the staff was VERY friendly! Would highly recommend to everyone!
Once again we enjoyed a wonderful meal at The Spring House!
Ordered the breads with the bacon corn bread on a separate dish as I do not eat meat and let the waitress know. Then myself and one friend ordered the salmon. Started eating it and realized there were chunks of sausage in it. Called the waitress over who said “oh, I thought only you didn’t eat meat, didn’t know your friend didn’t. Ummm...but you brought me a dish with meat in it? They ended up remaking the food, but never got a real apology or anything offered as an apology.
Always seated too close to other diners, hard to have conversation.
Andrew is great!!
We had an amazing dinner with an incredible server. Food was delicious, can’t wait for the bar area to reopen!
A favorite in WS!
Food is usually really good, especially when they vary the menu to include bison meat loaf. This time around, the food was average. The major drawback was our service. Drinks were forgotten about, and attitude was poor. We asked for recommendations on the menu and she said ‘whatever you like to eat’. My out of town guest has already said he’ll never go back, which is unfortunate.
We absolutely loved this place!! It was a perfect night.
Great night out on the patio! The feeling of London or Paris in the middle of downtown Winston.
Very disappointed in food and service. Also it would have been nice if the west posted no alcohol during renovation
The food and the presentation were excellent. The crab and shrimp beignet appetizer is the best. The service was attentive and informative. We definitely will return.
The food at Springhouse never disappoints. The flavors are amazing! Such a great atmosphere. I can't wait until the new bar opens!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We ate outside which was a treat since the weather that night was not so muggy and patio is shaded and lovely. We were highly disappointed though that the bar was closed and no cocktails were being offered.....not even liquor on ice. We would have loved a cocktail and then wine with our meal.....so we settled on wine only.
Love Spring House! A dining jewel in WS.
The food was fantastic, but several things weren't quite as we were expecting. The waitress didn't know any of the specials that the menu told us to ask about and kept having to run back to the kitchen. The bar is apparently closed for renovations, which was a real shame because the website advertised half price cocktails on Mondays which my group was excited about. Tried to order wine for the table instead and were told they were out of stock, how about this much more expensive bottle....
As said, the food was fantastic, and it was a nice place for a special dinner. But not quite what we were expecting especially considering the high price tag that comes with the restaurant.
Lovely dinner to celebrate an anniversary
Very unfortunate meal this past weekend. All have been outstanding in the past and patio dining is delightful, but things started out badly when we were informed that no liquor was being served due to a bar renovation. One couple likes their specific cocktails, so they left for a few minutes to run home and fix their own as they live nearby! The June heat had my mouth watering for the special blueberry mojito listed on the website, but no specialty cocktails of any kind for the next two weeks as well. We considered leaving but decided to stay put as the food sounded great. We laughed that we could set up a card table and serve cocktails easily all night...why could they not do the same? Bread service was excellent and soup very good. Two salmon salads were delicious and perfectly cooked although the hunt for the black-eyed peas turned up very few. My husband’s main dish salad had the most overcooked breaded oysters we have ever tasted. They were hard as a rock and one went flying off the plate onto the ground when he tried to spear it. We all sampled and agreed they were inedible. A polite mention of the problem brought no compensation. Our waiter was as a very nice young man and we felt badly for him, but management should do better with these issues. Not sure we will be back anytime soon.
Both the food and the service at Springhouse are OUTSTANDING!!!!
Highly recommend this beautiful gem! My family includes a 5 year old had a great time. Our server Leslie, was extremely patient, knowledgeable and made great recommendations. I know the bar is going under renovations and are looking forward to trying more of their specialty drinks. In the mean time we cannot wait to making another visit very soon.
Amazing service!!! We sat outside on their lovely patio with my dog, and they were so accommodating and sweet. We loved our waitress, can't remember her name! We went on mondays which had half off handcrafted cocktails!! The bread service was amazing.. southern oysters were soooo bomb & they gave a really good portion! Hanger steak salad was cooked perfectly & dressing was delicious. Definitely will be going back!
We have been to the Spring House Restaurant several times and have always enjoyed it. The bar area is actually our favorite. It is a small, quaint area with lots of personality. The bartender is always very social and engaging. Though I mentioned on Open Table that our dinner was for a birthday “special occasion,” no mention was made about our celebration. I could have said something to the waitress, but I was curious if mentioning it on Open Table made a difference. Not sure if the restaurants always get that part of the Open Table comment section. It is best to mention it yourself if it is important to you.
Wonderful food and wonderful service. This was our first visit to Spring House; went for our 6 year anniversary and it was also our first night out after the birth of our child. Our waitress was absolutely fantastic, the food was on point, and the wine was wonderful. I look forward to my next visit. It can't come soon enough!
Excellent food & service. Nondescript ambiance. Loud and pricy...
Wonderful meal! Loved the breads, appetizers and entrees. Interesting fusion of southern, Cajun and Asian ingredients. Outstanding service! My only suggestion is to be have more comfortable chairs at the tables.
I was really looking forward to a unique experience here with an unusual and historic atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food did not hit the mark for me or my dinner companion. I ordered the mushroom dish (vegetarian) which was just ok, the flavor could have been much better and the dish was lukewarm. I do give them credit for offering a different vegetarian option. My "date" ordered the special- fried softshell crab. He didn't like it and ended up leaving over half. The bread plate appetizer and goat cheese compliment was very nice-best part of the dinner. We did not complain so there was no opportunity for the server to do anything. The service was good, our server was friendly and when told I am vegetarian she made sure to point out everything that had either meat or made with meat products. The atmosphere is really nice, the weather for sitting outside was perfect. Not much for parking which is understandable. If the food was better I would happily return. In all fairness, we did go there because my "date" had been there twice before-his girlfriend strongly recommended it as the best place she's been. Hopefully our experience that night was a fluke. One more note, the early hostess was excellent!!!, the 2nd of that night seemed confused with little personality.
