No better service anywhere and the ambiance is outstanding. As a cook, and former professional chef, I find the current 'decorator' food/splashes of this or that sauce, with way too much 'southern fusion'..pimento cheese on/in everything, overdone.
I expect more from a quality restaurant, with the ability to charge whatever the market will bear. Sampled two desserts; one lemony w/whipped cream, and one chocolate lava...both 'way too much white sugar'...healthier sugar, less of it, will vastly improve desserts.
Great and affordably priced Savignon Blanc from South Africa.
We haven’t been to Spring House in a couple of years. We absolutely love the ambiance but were underwhelmed by the food. We ordered fried oysters as appetizer and enjoyed the dish. I ordered the lamb and my wife ordered the filet. Both dishes came out lukewarm and did not meet our expectations. Hoping it was an off night. We love the atmosphere but left wanting more from our entree.
Beautiful historic home with delicious food and friendly staff. We even bought 2 cookbooks to take home. Chef Tim and his staff created the perfect dining experience!
We had dinner there for a birthday. We were so happy and very full. The menu was great and service was outstanding. We’ll be back for our next celebration.
The Spring House was a nice restaurant overall. Nice atmosphere and pretty good service. The food was just ok. My fish seemed over cooked and dried out.
The bread basket was very good. I think I would try it again.
We choose Spring House for our Anniversary dinner out. W
Food, service & ambiance for our dinner on 5/11 were all excellent.
The Spring House always has excellent food and service!
Went for my wife’s birthday and the overall experience at Spring House ruined the night. Service was slow and rarely came to check in on us. After waiting on steaks for over an hour we informed staff we just wanted to leave. The manager never came to apologize. I will say that our previous experience was positive, but this time was truly awful.
We felt like the price for quality of food was poor. Nice atmosphere and mediocre service. Won’t go again for the price point.
good eclectic selection of apps and entrees. Good service
We were hoping for a intimate and quiet birthday celebration. Did not realize it was prom night. The kids were fine but the parent entourage was quite disruptive. We will continue to patronize Spring House. Wonderful staff and superior food.
A lovely meal. Dinner was delicious, atmosphere was pleasant and staff was friendly. Entrees were different than lots of other places in Winston. Great for celebrating a special occasion or hosting parents/guests.
We love this restaurant and have been coming here for years. Unfortunately this trip our service was very slow and unattentive and our food came out wrong. When sent back to get fixed, it still came back wrong.
We will be back but it was unfortunate as this level of service has not been what we have grown accustom to
We love the Spring House. After enjoying two exceptional wine dinners at the Spring House, we knew we wanted to celebrate our son's UNCSA college graduation with a special dinner on the night before. The food was wonderful, delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was warm, helpful, fun and excellent at her job. We loved out table and the smaller room we were in that was filled with golden light from the setting sun. A very, very nice celebration! Topped of with a surprise extra dessert for our graduate.
The food was a little bit disappointing. It was good, but our last visit was awesome. We will definitely go back.
I indicated we were celebrating a special event when I made our reservation through Open Table. The hostess wished us a happy anniversary when we arrived and our server greeted us with glasses of champagne compliments of the Chef. Our evening was proving to be as celebratory and romantic as I had hoped. The entree presentation was beautiful. The steak was a true medium rare as prefered, and my fried oysters were the best I’ve had anywhere. Our server Kiley was a delight. After dinner we enjoyed drinks in comfortable side chairs by the fireplace savoring our entire experience. We will return, perhaps we’ll make Spring House our anniversary tradition.
The NY Strip was amazing! Loved our server and the customer service we received. The ambiance was perfect for celebrating our wedding anniversary and can't wait to come back!
Wonderful dining experience!
Multiple..BD, New Job, Divorce!
Favorite place in Winston!
My husbands steak was not up to our expectation. He said that it was tough. The broccoli was also fibrous and not tender
Great overall experience!
Sat in the open room on the other side of the bar. There was a large party in there which made it extremely loud and difficult to hear the person right next to me. It was a nice night outside , so opening some windows or door would have helped filter the sounds. The Mahi Mahi was over cooked, but had good flavor. Behind us was a group of people with a DOG. I am a dog lover, but I'm sorry unless its a service dog, it doesn't need to be in the restaurant. I really enjoyed the Spring House the last time I was there, but I was very very disappointed this time.
The ambiance, hostess and wait staff were the only positive take aways from our experience. We started with the asparagus soup, which was tasteless and had hard shreds of stalk throughout the whole soup that made it inedible. For the entrees we had the salmon, beet salad, and chicken & waffles. The salmon was dry and salty and the rice that came with it was mushy and tasteless. The beets on the beet salad were not even close to fresh. They were something I would expect at a food court. The chicken on the chicken & waffles was mediocre and the the dish became mushy very quickly from the oily meat on the bottom. Overall I would never eat here again or recommend it to anyone.
My annual weekend trip to the RiverRun Film Festival always include Saturday dinner at the Spring House. The setting, the food, the ambience, the service, all excellent.
Mahi good flavor but was slightly overcooked.
Service needed a little improvement. My CC was returned to wrong table.
As always a joy to dine.
Excellent food and service. My server recommended the pork chop and it didn’t disappoint.
As usual, Spring House delivered an exceptional all-around experience. The food was excellent, the service was impeccable and the the entire evening was spectacular. Chef Tim and his staff never disappoint. If you haven’t tried Spring House then you are missing out. If you haven’t visited in awhile, it’s time to make your reservation.
Beautiful old house. They choose to seat us near the kitchen entrance/exit, even though it was not busy.
Food was good but not great.
After we were seated we waited 20 minutes for our waiter to take out drink order. This was a foreshadowing for the rest of the meal. Between every course we sat and waited without even seeing our waiter in the same room much less waiting on us. There were multiple open tables so I would find it hard to believe that they were absolutely slammed but it was Friday night. The other point of contention came when my husband who is pescatarian specifically asked the waiter if the salmon special had any meat products in the ingredients. He said he was unsure and would check with the chef. He then assured us that there were not meat products in the special. Our food arrived warm and fragrant and my husband was immediately disappointed that the collard greens and crab étouffée both tasted of pork. When we brought this up to the waiter he stated that the greens were stewed with a ham bone and there was andouille sausage in the étouffée. He apologized and a new pork free salmon was brought out to us but by this time my husband was feeling too sick to eat and the rest of our party had finished eating. I was very disappointed after hearing such great things about Spring House. The atmosphere is lovely but for the price point of the food and expected level of dining Spring House leaves much to be desired.
Great place. It was our first visit. We will definitely go back often. Excellent food and service.
Perfect service! Good job, Cameron!
We love the Spring House! Always great food, service and atmosphere.
I enjoyed my birthday at Spring House and found it a lovely place to celebrate!
Great atmosphere but took over an hour to get main course meal which was fair.
I had the chicken fried fish and wife had mahi mahi
Did the bread service as well.
For 85.00 could’ve been better but just average for the price.
Such tasty food and great service! Cameron was super helpful and even talked to the chef about accommodating an appetizer swap for us. My parents and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Always allow syrup with your fried chicken and waffles.
Sauce for the oysters was not low country.
Atmosphere was lovely. Soup and appetizers were good. Fish was over cooked and over sauced. Long wait for each course. Fine server.
