Appetizers were fine, but the entrees were honestly very subpar - almost even bad. Beautiful spot though with a nice ambiance.
Amazing food and drinks. Great place for a special event
I usually don’t give full reviews here but I have to say something here as it was probably the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant that seemingly has such high ratings. I understand given the circumstances in the world right now to not be super harsh but honestly, the food was just terrible and we felt super unwanted. It was a friends birthday and we chose this restaurant after seeing such great reviews and 2 of us ordered a fish entree which didn’t smell good at all, asked for a replacement fish and that came undercooked, and the birthday girl got the “award winning burger” which was burnt. We asked for replacement appetizer dishes instead and it was also just half assed and not given the same way as the first time we received it. It was just shocking to see such disregard. We even dared to ask about dessert but changed our minds as we just couldn’t take it anymore, and no dessert was even given knowing this was a bday dinner and we had such a terrible time. I will NEVER make the mistake of going there ever again.
Place was awesome, service was great...Biscuits and Gravy were WOW!!!!
Thanks so much, Phillip! We're thrilled that you enjoyed everything. Hope to see you again soon!
We have dined here several times and have always had a great experience. The menu features items to fit a variety of tastes and a nice wine list accompanies the offerings. I ordered the steak tartare this last visit and it was prepared differently than I have experience before. That is one of my favorite dishes and I was disappointed in the preparation and presentation. Outside of that, the evening was great! We will return!
The mushroom starters were heavenly, and our server was very attentive. The only detractors were that the beer was served overflowing and left a pool on the table, and the lobster masala was a tad bit dry. But the flavors were wonderful and we'd definitely go back!
Enjoyed a weekend brunch, and it was THE BEST biscuits and gravy I've found in Indiana in 20 years of trying! Highly recommend it for weekend brunch.
The mushroom appetizer and burger were delicious!
This was our first here and it was great.
We ordered a bunch of appetizers and the bourbon selection was quite good. The charcuterie board was excellent. Lots of great cheese and meats. We also had the Brussels sprouts and mushrooms. EXCELLENT! We will definitely be coming back here. They did a fabulous job of social distancing and wore masks. Great service. Greta location.
Thank you so much for the great review, Bretta! We're so happy that you enjoyed everything, and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.
Loved it! Server was outstanding and so was the brunch menu.
Beautiful meal and great ambiance! We will be back!
Thank you so much for the great review! We can't wait to see you again.
There were very few people in the restaurant when we were there so it was, for us, pretty quiet and easy to have a conversation. Our server was terrific, very knowledgeable, and pleasant. Everything about the meal was amazing. The craft cocktails were delicious, the food was amazing. The restaurant is very clean and comfortable. We had a great meal and a great time. I would highly recommend.
Thank you so much for the great review, Karen! We appreciate your business during these uncertain times and I hope to see you again very soon. Stay safe, and thank you again!
Great burgers that I wasn't so sure about while reading the menu.
Nice place for a restaurant in the Le Meridien lobby looking out at Illinois St.
Was kind of quiet due to Covid, would have been nice to see this place packed with a lively crowd, hopefully in the near future we can go back and see it that way.
Service was very good and quick. Good liquor and beer selection.
Parking is readily available and is a nice place to walk to if you are in downtown.
Thank you so much for the great review, Chris! We're so happy that you enjoyed everything, and we hope to see you again when times aren't so uncertain -- hopefully with that lively crowd you mentioned! Thank you again, and please stay safe!
We celebrated our anniversary and stayed at Le Meridian where Spoke & Steel is located. We had breakfast before checking out and had a great experience. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Even though the menu was limited due to COVID, everything we had was delicious, especially the mimosas made with freshly squeezed orange juice. We will definitely come back.
Food was unique and delicious. The service was very nice and personable. The restaurant was relaxed, but also upscale.
This restaurant is not open because Indianapolis mayor is a dope scaredy cat.
Food was excellent, service was great, we were there for my 30th birthday and it was the perfect setting.
Very nice, even in the rain.
Nice. Brandon was excellent server. Salmon was spectacular.
Thanks so much! We agree on both counts. We hope to see you again soon!
Staff is VERY friendly and knowledgeable. Had the best burger of my life.
That is great to hear! Thank you so much, and we hope to see you again very soon.
Food was good overall! Service was okay, it took the waitress a bit longer than expected to come to our table and take our order. We had a reservation but had a short wait, not a big deal.
Thank you, Ellen! It was definitely a busy night, so thank you for your patience. So happy that you enjoyed your meal, and hope to see you again soon.
Great food, awesome cocktails, and friendly service. There was a bit of a wait (even with a reservation), but they were apologetic and kept us updated on the wait time. Every thing we ordered was well prepared - delicious! The server was knowledgeable about the menu and helped us pair wine and order a great combination of small and medium plates which was the perfect amount of food for the table.
Thank you so much, Dan! So happy to hear that you enjoyed your Valentine's Day experience, and we hope to see you again very soon!
Service was outstanding. Cocktails are carefully crafted. Food was amazing though I was underwhelmed by the portions. Overall I highly recommend!!!!
Thanks so much, Jerrell! We hope to see you again soon!
M wife and I ate here on Valentines Day. We arrived at 645p and had a reservation for 715p but were seated after 730p. The cocktails and wines were excellent. My wife’s shrimp and grits were excellent. I ordered a burger and my fries were excellent. The burger was well done because of chorizo added but was very dry and not very flavorful. I love burgers and enjoy ordering them from “fancy” establishments and I was unfortunately disappointed.
We’ll be back for small plates and cocktails. Thank you!
Hi, Lee! Thank you for the review and the feedback on our Burger of the Month. I have passed your thoughts on to our Executive Chef. I'm so happy that you enjoyed everything else, and hope to see you again very soon!
Fantastic experience; any faults in the food were promptly and satisfactorily addressed by the chef and staff. Will definitely return and recommend.
Thank you so much for allowing us to correct our mistake and improve your experience! We look forward to seeing you again soon. Thanks again for sharing your feedback with us!
My wife and I ordered the Valentine's Day entre' special. My wife has a shellfish allergy and they were willing to substitute one of the sides to accommodate. Very nice. I ordered the same dish without the substitution but got the substitionion for some reason anyway. I also ordered my steak to be cooked medium but it was easily medium rare, bordering on rare. Not only was it rare but grisly and barely edible for me. The chocolate rye cake dessert was ok but looked like it had been prepared the previous day and stored in the fridge. The result was super dry blob of cold cake. Yes, I know I could have sent it all back and asked for it to be done right but I didn't. My bad!!
And the thing is, this place is sandwiched between Ruth's Chris and St. Elmo's. For $200 it should have been much better.
We're so sorry to hear about your less-than-stellar experience with us. Certainly, if you had sent your entree back to the kitchen, Chef would have done everything to make it better for you. Additionally, had I known about these issues I would have taken care of them. We would have appreciated the opportunity to improve your experience. This obviously was not the experience that we want to provide for our guests.
My husband and I enjoyed a romantic Valentine's Day dinner at Spoke and Steele. We started with a sparkling rose which was offered on a special Valentine's menu. Their homemade biscuits were very good. My husband had the sea bass which had a great buttery flavor that was delicious.
Thank you for the great review, Lisa! We're so happy that you enjoyed your Valentine's Day with us! See you again soon.
Ate here in Valentine’s Day. Nice place with good drinks. Food was overpriced for what was served. Wouldn’t go back
For food but we did like the drinks.
Tucked inside Le Meridian hotel (the old Canterbury location.) Made reservations (even though it was lunch, but because it was Valentine's day), but it wasn't busy when we arrived. Surprisingly, it was almost empty! Nice classic but modern dining area, decorated with lots of mercury glass. Our waiter was nice and told us some of his menu favorites. Hubs had a build your own omelet, and I had the croque madame. (See pics.) Both a #yum. Sandwich was big enough to make leftovers. Fries were nicely seasoned. Food was very good, and reasonably/moderately priced (my big sandwich and fries for $14). The only thing that was a little weird was my diet coke (actually pepsi) for $3 was served as a can with a glass. I didn't drink enough to see if refills would have been separate. Now, today was the coldest bitter winter day we had in a while, and the dining room was cold. For us, dinner here would probably be more for a special occasion, but we'd be interested! #yum #ReviewsByRL on #yelp
Thank you for the review, Raena! We hope that you will, in fact, join us for dinner soon.
Great cocktails, food and service!
Great to hear! Thank you, and we hope to see you again soon.
Everything was perfect! We had a small group and sat in a small private room which was exactly what we needed.
Thanks so much! We are so happy that you enjoyed your visit, and we hope to see you again very soon.
We had great service with amazing food!
Wonderful! Thanks so much for the great review, and we hope to see you again very soon.
The food and ambience is amazing. Slightly overpriced drinks but they were also delicious.
I thought the food quality/taste was good, but the service was slow and spotty. Had to flag down my server for silverware after he had taken my appetizer silverware. Then he walked off and I had to flag him down for a spoon to eat soup after it was placed before me. I also asked for extra pita triangles for our hummus appetizer (there weren't enough to begin with) but that was forgotten; when I reminded the waiter about the pita, he said he forgot but would get some more. The pita arrived after we were done with all of our entrees, and we were charged for it. With so many dining options in downtown Indy, I don't think I would return or refer someone to the restaurant.
Great food and very nice setting.
Mary was an awesome waitress. Very knowledgeable about the menu and correct amount of food for the two of us. When I mentioned to her that I was scouting out the venue for a friends rehearsal dinner, she took the time out of her busy Friday night to show us some of the party rooms. Definitely went above and beyond so thank you!
Overall the food was very good. We enjoyed the atmosphere also. The only odd issue was that when we arrived without a reservation we were told by the hostess that the entire dining room was completely booked for the evening but we were welcome to sit at the bar. So we went to the bar and ordered a drink. We didn’t want to eat dinner at the bar so I went on my open table app to look for another restaurant that would have an open reservation that evening close by. Earlier in the day when I checked everybody around this restaurant including Spoke & S had plenty of open tables so that’s why I didn’t make one earlier. To my surprise S&S had three open times for dinner reservation even though the hostess had told us there was nothing available for the rest of the evening. Short story we were seated at a dining table and stayed at S&S so I assume the hostess didn’t want to bother giving us a table on her own. Nice to have the open table app but miss the old days when the hosts were owners or managers and actually cared about the restaurant and the customers. The food was delicious but the hostess left a sour taste in our mouths!
Another great meal at Spoke & Steele. This was our second trip to the restaurant in 3 months (we live 50 miles away) and made the trip because of our great experience the first time. Their signature old fashion is just outstanding with its aging process. I had their signature shrimp and grits and my wife had the scallops. Both were outstanding in their preparations. For dessert we shared their brownie a la mode which came in an iron skillet. It was freshly baked and outstanding. The first time we went it was 5 p.m. and a relatively quiet atmosphere. This time it was 8 p.m. and the noise level made communication across the table difficult. Service was very good and would have been better if the waiter wasn't diverted to attend a table of 14 for blocks at a time. Without that diversion he would have received and outstanding. The uniqueness of the food preparations bring us back to this restaurant. Oh, the restroom is on the second floor requiring detailed directions for use.
John, thank you so much for the great review! We're honored that you travel so far to see us, and so happy that you have enjoyed everything. Please introduce yourself next time. Thank you again!
This place has quickly become our favorite date night spot. Everything from the service to the food to the ambiance is 100%. Zero complaints. I highly recommend you experience something from each section of the menu including a drink and dessert.
Ashley, thank you so much! What a great review. We look forward to seeing you again soon, and are thrilled to be your favorite date night spot!
