Sperry's Restaurant - Saratoga Springs Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful night from start to finish. Enjoyed a comfortable booth & looked at the many vintage Saratoga racing photos on the walls.
Rocky is a great waiter, attentive and helpful. I vaguely asked for Chardonnay, he asked if i wanted a buttery one; I said no, oaky, and he brought the perfect glass and was even patient enough to tell me the name of the wine twice.
The popovers were hot from the oven and delicious, the kitchen split our iceberg wedge so that we could share it easily, the bolognese and the scallops entrees we had were perfect. Nearby diners had some sort of amazing two level appetizer tray with various different shellfish.
Little things like coat check and crumbing the table are a sign of the attentiveness to every aspect of a fine dining experience. The ragtime/ jazz (?) style background music, of covers of current pop hits, hits made us raise an eyebrow, but ...it works...and after a while it was fun to figure out what song was playing.
Ps: restrooms looked like they had been cleaned moments before I stepped in. Spotless.
Food was fabulous, so was the service, but the music was so loud we couldn't have a normal conversation. We did complain about it, and so did others, but it was apparently part of the New Year's Day schtick. As much as I love Sperry's, if I were to go again, I would specifically ask if there were going to be blaring music for the occasion and would not go if that were the case. Food is wonderful, however, wait staff was right on top of things. Price was competitive with other restaurants of this high quality and reputation. I also want to say, I hope Sperry's brings back regular brunch - used to go all the time.
We came here with our daughter for our last night together before she flew back home and had a wonderful time.
The cocktails were perfect, the appetizers delicious, and the entrees were everything one could hope for and all of it was served beautifully.
Sperry's attention to detail is one of many reasons it has been popular for so long.
Have been visiting Sperry"s for years and have always been very satisfied with service and quality, however, on this visit I was greatly disappointed. Upon arrival (15 minutes early in fact) the hostess greeted us and we said we would like to have a drink at the bar prior to being seated, she said okay but twice in the 15 minutes came to us and asked if she could take us to our table, we finally moved to table five minutes before our reservation time.
Once seated we discovered that neither of our requests made at reservation time were honored (special seating area OR defined server). I brought this to the attention of the hostess and was interrupted by the manager who had all kinds of excuses why he could not accommodate my reservation as made. He finally did provide the server requested after much displeasure expressed by me.
Dinner was fine with great appetizer and entree, however, bottle of wine ordered after talking with bartender and being promised "great discounted price" turned out to be status quo wine with a very hefty price tag of $90.00. Once again as a longtime patron and person who spends a lot of money there this betrayed my trust in the organization moving forward.
The manager told me that many people come here a lot and that I was not anybody special to him or the restaurant, which my reply was "thank you and remember there are many restaurants in Saratoga and I will turn to them in the future".
Sorry to say Sperry’s has lost a dedicated customer and many recommendations in the future.
This is such a nice restaurant, we were happy to see that they reopened after the fire nearby. The food was delicious, well prepared, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. I had the braised short ribs, they were delicious, the gelato was creamy and worth the extra calories! I would highly recommend Sperry’s & plan on returning again.
Overall a good experience that could have been more. On a surprisingly quiet Thursday night, I had a 6:30 reservation for two. "Booth or table?" I was asked. I looked down the restaurant and saw several spacious booths. "Booth," I said. I was taken around the corner, and seated at a booth for two, and to say it was small is an understatement. It really did not qualify as a booth. So, may coat and I shared space in this tiny space for the entire meal. (The hostess offered to take my coat, but I had all my gear in my coat and was not prepared to give it up at that moment.) The 4-person booth next to us went unoccupied the entire time we were there. (see attached photo) Frustrating. I ordered meatball app and a wedge salad, and both arrived at the same time, along with my dining partner's app. The table could barely fit it all. Awkward. The meatballs were too firm, and not quite warm enough, but not cold, either. This was saved by a great marinara they were swimming in. The wedge as a disappointment; I found the dressing bland and I didn't like the strips of bacon on top. I like crispy bits, not whole slices from the fridge. My entree, the scallops, were very good and everything about that portion of the meal was excellent. My friend has the Filet, and thought it was one of the best he'd ever had. I had a bite, and it was excellent, with a strong flavor from a biting bleu cheese. Where was this great bleu cheese when I had my wedge? I lot of complaining here, but I did enjoy the meal, but it could have been better.
The food was amazing and portions where perfect. The service was horrendous though, our waiter was Bill. He was so extremely slow never came over and checked on us while we ate. We ordered our dessert and waited 20 minutes for our dessert! You could tell he really didn’t care about being there or doing a good job. We would go back but to make sure we don’t get Bill!
I have to say I went to sperrys over the summer it was fabulous. So I went with some of my friends to have dinner and our waiter (Bill) was a little clueless forgetting our drinks and not very A tentative for what our meal was costing. I will also say the seafood tower it's not worth the $150 that we paid basically it was 4 shrimp A couple of crab legs a few oysters and a few clams. So if you do go to Sperry's do not order the seafood tower. All and all The difference between the last time and this time was night and day. The steak I had was good and the people I was with also enjoyed there meal. But when you pay 700.00 for a meal everything should be good waiter and all .
My husband and I went to Sperry's during restaurant week and the food was excellent as always. Even better because of the value! Sperry's is one of our favorites in Saratoga Springs! The reason I gave 4 stars is because the restaurant told Open Table we never showed for our reservation. We had to wait 45 minutes for a reservation made at 7:15.
Wonderful! Very festive and it turned out to be restaurant week. Half our group ordered of the restaurant week menu and it was all great.
Classic old school atmosphere, fairly easy to have a conversation but a buzz in the air. My first time here and can’t wait to come back.
A little pricey even for Saratoga. That said, the beef short ribs were GREAT! Wife’s swordfish was excellent as well. Service responsive and not overbearing. They originally seated us in a small back room that was a little chilly and had a great view of the dishwashing machine, so we asked to be moved and they did so right away. Very friendly staff. Worth it, maybe let’s just bring those prices down a liiiiiitle bit ;-)
