Our meal was so very good. The restaurant had only been open for 12 days post quarantine so the staff was very happy to be back at work. The food was outstanding (perfectly cooked steaks) and the service was excellent.
Server was amazing . Steaks were delicious. Sides were not as we have experienced in the past . Wine was overpriced . Not sure we will return with so many other choices in Salt Lake City
Steak frites were melt in your mouth delicious, however the crab legs didn’t seem fresh. Drinks were on point. We unfortunately had a waiter that was trying to both tend the bar and our table, so the service left something to be desired. They did compensate for this and I would return for a great steak.
We were celebrating a very special milestone anniversary and wanted to be somewhere extraordinarily special so we chose Spencer's since we've been there many times in the past and it is one of our 4 favorite "go-to" places.
This time however, they went above and beyond making our evening special. Our server went over the top to make us feel welcomed and special, was doting but not encroaching; cheerful but not artificial. (Turns out she is just as much of a dog lover as we are and we chatted about our fur babies after dinner).
The wine - our favorite - Meiomi was presented so professionally and I loved how complementary she was about the choice. The appetizers and the entrees were done perfectly my filet was so tender and my husband's bone in special cut rib-eye was out of this world....and when we ordered our standard creme' brulee' to share, we enjoyed how much she enjoyed "our thing" of always sharing it.
We enjoyed our "gourmet left-overs" for dinner the next night as well including what was left of the mouth watering creme' brulee' and we are still amazed at the quality and caliber of Spencer's after being open only ONE day since being shut down from the "pandemic".
Good job/Kudos to all who were there and thank you for making our night extraordinarily special. We Will Be Back...Lynnette & Michael Shimmin
First dine in night for them. Some confusion of course. Lovely staff.
We made an early evening reservation so we could get to the theater on time.. about two hours before the show. And everything was near perfect except for the fact that we seemed to get lost in the shuffle as we were trying to leave, get the bill settled and so forth. We were rushed, but we did get to the theater on time. Otherwise, the food was awesome, the request for a quiet area was granted, and everyone had a good experience.
Excellent tenderloin. Great deal before 6pm.
Widder realize that it was in the Hilton so we had little expectations. That being said, we had a lovely time. The butchers cut aka bone in ribeye was perfectly cooked rare ++ which means rare but charred on the exterior. Another cool feature was that the sides you can very half orders so you can order more variety which is great if you like to choose. All and all, lives it and the service was awesome!
The environment was quiet and relaxing. Staff was friendly and food was delicious. I would suggest ordering one up of the way you like your meat cooked. Mine was a little undercooked for my liking. Overall was a pleasant evening.
Waitress came across as rude when I asked if the seafood was fresh. I didn't like the taste of my waygu. The vegetables were very good however.
Very dark, steak was overcooked a bit.
I don’t know if it was the kitchen or the service . It took forever for someone to take our order. The n we waited forever for our main course an hour and 20 minutes before our food arrived. The steaks were good but cool in temperature- so they had been sitting a while. $500 for five people-deserves much better. It was very disappointing for my sons birthday party. I won’t go back- Flemings and Ruth’s Chris never disappoint.
We really enjoy Spencer's downtown SLC. The food and service are great. Their steaks are really delicious, tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. Rose waited on us, and was very attentive, but in a nice way. She would check back to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We go about every three months, and like the ambiance there. The restaurant is large enough to have a great menu, but small enough to have an intimate or quiet dinner.
Wagyu was really good, but regular filet was a little tough and a bit over salted. Garlic mashed potatoes and other sides were very good. Cake bread and Jordan wine was of course spectacular. Waitress was very good and attentive.
Not a great place, to much noise of place to take some one on a date.
Valentine’s Day dinner with my husband and our best friends. I’ve never been to a “fancy” restaurant before but now I know why people do. The food was absolutely outstanding and the staff was amazing!
Outstanding experience at Spencer's 2020 Valentine's Day dinner. I had the bavette (flank) steak and frites; 'Valentine' had the salmon. Kevin was our server with assistance from a bevy of others. Terrific evening all around.
Great food. The Filet was perfect.
We went to Spencer's to celebrate Valentine's Day a couple of days early. We've been before, but it's been a few years since our last visit. We are glad we made a reservation because the bar was packed full of people watching a game of some sort and waiting for a table. It was pretty loud in that area, like a sports bar, but by the time we were seated in the back, it was much quieter. Our server, Hayley, was very outgoing, kind and genuine. She checked in on us often. We really liked her. And our water was never even close to being low. And the food! Every single bite was delectable. The crusty bread rolls were mouth watering, our salads were perfectly prepared, and our entrees were unbelievably delicious. The sides we ordered (garlic smashed potatoes and brocollini) were the perfect accompaniments. We will be sure not to stay away for so long next time!
First choice for quality meal with great ambience and service!
Always our go-to for special occasions. Had filets, crab oscar, lobster mac and squash. Excellently prepared and presented. Server was fabulous as well
All of the food was amazingly delicious! Our steaks were cooked perfect and tasted so good!! Look forward to coming back when I’m in town next time!
Amazing service and food
For some reason open table told me I would not receive points again for this dinner!!!!! Why?????
Service, ambience and food were awful.
Great food and service. The booths were not the most comfortable. Drinks from the bar were okay.. we showed up before our reservation time and they took us right in. Very polite and friendly staff.
Food was excellent, service fantastic
Incorrect orders. Good timing issues. Staff arguing about it. Not a positive experience
Waiter was very professional and attentive. Also recommended great add-ons
The food was exceptionally tasty and cooked perfectly to order. Service was friendly.
Very good food! The steak was amazing!!!! I went with my 3 kids and my parents and we had a very good time.
Service was pretty slow. Our waiter seemed to be the only waiter there and was covering too many people. My biggest concern was that when they were told all the prices on the menu were higher than what was on the internet they just said that was an error. I also saw on the internet that they were offering free corkage on Saturdays. When I called to verify I was told that was an error and we were charged $15.00 per bottle corkage. Everyone checks the internet to look at the menu and for any specials. The management should be paying much more attention to what is out there and keep the info current. I will go back but not very often.
Always do a great job here. Menu has a lot to offer. Goat cheesecake is next level dessert.
You have been my FAVORITE steak house for years. But you’re no longer serving Prime Grade beef. My rib eye was tough. I didn’t finish it. The server, she was great! The other dishes were terrific. I’ve dined in the best steak houses around the country and used to brag about you guys. Bring back the prime grade. You can make money charging $48 for a ribeye that costs you $12 in food costs.
It was a poor experience from the time we arrived for our Christmas dinned reservation while visiting family in SLC. "Please wait in the hotel space over there because there are people ahead of you." The restaurant was more than %75 empty. The pretentiously scaled poorly made banquette we we lead to was broken. We were seated at another table with equally oversized, for the space allotted, chairs which had arms for what one can only imagine is a misbegotten attempt at grandeur, which made ingress/egress difficult. And their joints were loose so they wobbled.
Service began with a smile but became rushed and then absent to the extent that when a cold side dish was served there was no one to ask for a correction and by the time they reappeared dinner was over. The side was removed from the bill however there was no apology for the cold food nor was any accommodation for a diminished experience offered. Other tables were provided bread, we were not.
Dark wood ersatz sumptuous solidity will not compensate for middling food and poor service.
To check ourselves we visited a local steakhouse with the same price point upon returning home, and we also felt we owed ourselves the meal. Everything, the food from mains and sides to deserts, service and environment were multiples superior to Spencer's.
The table was setup with conference room chairs and in the middle of a walkway. The server kept forgetting our drinks and there was no kids menu. Just missing what I’d expect for customer service for the meal price.
I’ve been going to Spencer’s ever since it first opened and both the food and the service are nowhere near what they used to be. The rib-eye steaks were tough and filled with gristle. Prices are on a par with Ruth’s Chris but both the quality of food and service are not. Our special Christmas meal was very mediocre.
We enjoyed Christmas lunch at Spencer's with my mom. Our server was able to recommend items and everything was delicious. Huckleberry crumble to finish our meal was just excellent.
Would definitely return to Spencer's!
