Acerca de este restaurante

  • Valor excepcional
Permanently Closed - It took the warmth and passion of the folks behind Spaghetti House to convince post-war London to give Italian cooking a try way back in the 1950's, and we've been flocking there ever since. The best reason to try one of the capital's culinary institutions is that the food is just so good. Pasta, in all its glory, is at the centre of the menu. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better fettuccine alfredo or spaghetti bolognese, even at twice the price. But the starters, salads, pizzas, and meat and fish courses are just as good. Try chicken with lemon and pine nut sauce or salmon with pesto and the wine list is so reasonably priced you can afford to experiment. This branch is near everything; Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, and all the madness of the West End. Spaghetti House: long may it wave!

Despite arriving at 5.30pm it was 7pm that we ended up leaving after 2 courses and physically chasing the bill. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon at 5.30 it wasn't particularly busy. We placed our orders and noticed the place soon filling up. But then we noticed that people that came after us and ordered after us were getting their dishes. I did hear the head waiter point out to one of his staff that someone sitting near us was a "good, regular customer". Not us obviously!! Finally after 40 minutes from arriving our 1st course arrives. Except there is only one of them, the special asparagus soup. It's missing the mascarpone cheese which is in my partners when it arrives 8 minutes later. Our mains take another 15 minutes to appear after having our plates cleared. The polpette meatballs were luke warm while my standard spag bog was nuclear hot. We asked for the bill and mentioned the 20% off deal for booking via here. The waiter doesn't know anything about it and brings the manager who acknowledges it. A further 10 to 15 mins pass and no bill and no sign of our waiter so we flag another down and ask for the bill. Another 10 mins pass and I get fed up and go to the till and unknowingly bypass the waiter with my bill. He brings it back to me and the 20% discount has not been taken off. A profuse apology from the manager saying he'd been suddenly swamped with people wanting to leave (funny that, given that it was Saturday night in the Theatre district, you'd think he may have noticed it happens all the time). The 20% off is only on the food portion, not the total bill as per this site. I would have saved a further pound, but the will to leave at this point was too great and I just gave up. Thankfully the evening was saved by the show we saw, but it was an extremely disappointing trip to what normally is faithful stalwart of cheapish West End dining. If only the Stock Pot was still around in Soho.

I visited this restaurant on a Saturday lunchtime and it was very busy. Given that the restaurant is opposite Trafalgar Square it can't have been a suprise that it would will be busy on a weekend lunchtime yet there were no where near enough staff to cope. I ordered one drink - they got it wrong. No apology. I ordered one plate of food - they got it wrong. No apology and no explanation of how long it would take the deliver the correct food. I asked for the bill and when it eventually arrived - it was wrong. Finally, an apology. I had one drink and one plate of very average pasta and was stuck in this restaurant for close to two hours. Never again.

We had a great pre-theatre meal for a reasonable price and good service. It is really convenient, next door, for the London Coliseum!

The food was good - some very good - and they obligingly did gnocchi with a different sauce for one of the guests. The waitress was very jolly and helpful. The evening was marred somewhat by resistance to honour the special offer discount, even when we showed them our booking confirmation email. They did give us the discount eventually but it was a shame for the evening to end that way.

Spaghetti House was always reliable for simple fast pre theatre meals. Don't know if it was due to a recent re-fit (though the management hasn't changed) but service was shocking. Had to chase 3 times for carafe of wine and 4 times for the olives I ordered with them. To pay the bill I had to tell them I was leaving in 2 minutes to get a response. Spoilt the first part of the evening. Will try Prezzo opposite next time I'm at ENO.

This must be the last vestige of the 1970s still surviving in central London. The place was almost empty when all the restaurants around were heaving, and so we were able to have a quiet business lunch undisturbed by anyone. The decor was unchanged from the "old days", and I was only surprised when the wine carafe wasn't a raffia covered chianti bottle. It was delightful, the food was fine, but somehow I can't imagine it has much of a future until the decor and the ideas are updated.

This place is lovely, and the food is beautiful. The service was a little chaotic though. We waited 40mins to pay our bill, so nearly missed our theatre show! Would go back though, as everyone was very friendly.

The four of us wanted a simple early supper ahead of the theater (Coliseum) next door. This place delivered in spades by delivering just what we wanted . . and with big sized house wine by the glass we hit a bulls eye. Thank you Spaghetti House.
