The food wasn’t good at all and the service was just okay. All the employees mostly stood around talking to each other. It was an okay experience. Not terrible but definitely would never go back. (There was no music when we were there. That might’ve improved the overall experience.)
Went on a Friday with live music. The service was pretty good given the only waiter in my area was caring for 10+ tables. The food was very basic. It lacked any significant flavor. Brussel sprouts appetizer was good. It was disappointing because the menu looked good on paper. Cocktails were B minus
The food was just okay and the portion size wasn’t great. The waitress was really friendly.
Awesome venue that host awesome events consisting of live music.
Went there around Valentine’s and was a bit disappointed that they were offering a limited menu. My wife and I were looking forward to trying several items we saw on the online menu. The cocktails were awesome though. We will try it again though.
Brussels sprouts appetizer was to die for. Highly recommend. Sweet potato jar for dessert was also quite good. One of my favorite date spots in the city.
Beyond excellent! My anniversary was made better by this amazing restaurant my braised lamb had a little too much salt for my liking, but everything else made up for it!
I don't often get excited about a menu, but South on Main has a variety of unique offerings for those who enjoy trying something new. I travel almost weekly for work and eat all over the world. We started with two of the daily dips - ham and chicken spread on house-made or at least house-doctored spicy crackers. Both are very good but those who can't handle spice should inquire on the heat level. I had the rabbit with house-made pasta; it was yummy ("tastes like chicken"). Other guests at the table tried the chicken pot au feu and the snapper, all satisfying. The serving sizes were perfect for me, and smaller than expected, given the premium prices.
SoM has a hip, interesting vibe and is recommended by foodies.
We ordered the Bridge Club dip, Braised Lamb, Rabbit Ragu, Snapper, and a chocoloate bread puddin for dessert. It was all very good.
Didn’t love the food, however our server was wonderful!
This is likely the first negative review I've written here, and I'm disappointed to be writing it. Before I begin: food was pretty good, drinks were fine, and our waiter, when he was around, was nice. We had made our reservation just over two weeks in advance and confirmed our seating via text the day before. Imagine our surprise, then, when we arrived at 9pm on New Year's Eve to find out that there was a special event happening and we would be charged $20/person to access our table. We explained that we had received no advanced warning about this fee, which is when the hostess deflected responsibility by saying it was an issue with OpenTable. After going back and forth and asking why neither the email nor the text confirmation made any mention of a special New Year's Eve event (especially one that would incur a fee), the manager was brought over, who patronizingly explained to us why by not paying, we were hurting the artists, since we couldn't simply have dinner without hearing the music (which we would have been thrilled to do, had that been an option). After more guilt-tripping, she offered to pay our cover charges; we explained that we'd dine quickly so they could offer up our spaces to anyone who actually wanted to hear the music and had sought them out for that. To be made to feel like we were terrible human beings for just wanting to have dinner--when of course, it was now 9pm and apparently everywhere else in town was either closed or fully booked--and that we were ruining the artists' career was extremely unprofessional. I hope that the people who work here can either reevaluate their partnership with OpenTable (they seemed eager to accept the extra foot traffic and revenue the site provides but quick to blame them when we questioned why we weren't notified) or learn to be more proactive in contacting customers who don't appreciate having an unexpected $40 surcharge added to their dining experience.
Our most favorite restaurant in town. We love everything about South on Main. The food was spectacular, as ever. Service was great. Menu was stellar.
Visited from Atlanta. Location was interesting and service was good. Food was average.
We picked South on Main to celebrate our anniversary because we have always had wonderful experiences here. Tonight was no exception. Great food and drinks in a fun atmosphere made for the perfect anniversary date. Can’t wait for our next visit.
Great craft cocktails! Had the Burning Bush!! Wonderful!
Dinner was great !
Wonderful local cusine
Table beside window. Service and food geeat
Not worth the hype. Should have gone to another restaurant that was recommended to me. Food average.
I would like to review the Hive in Bentonville but you never sent me an email and cannot find a way to do it. Please send email for this review.
The ambience, music, and service were fantastic. They didn’t have several items on their menu, which was disappointing. We both ordered the snapper, and the fish had an old / not fresh taste, so much so that we had to order something else. We both enjoyed our second dishes. The cake dessert had a sort of burnt microwave taste, presumably from being nuked before coming to the table.
Food was fantastic, my guest enjoyed it thoroughly. Music was superb. Great evening!
The food and entertainment was great as always. Server was very polite and had all the answers to our many questions. We enjoyed our Saturday night out with friends.
Food was mediocre at best. So disappointing. I had insisted family group go there for dinner. Only thing I would eat again are biscuits, French fries, and popcorn cauliflower. There were 8 of us and no one was happy with what they ordered.
Wonderful atmosphere, music and food. I ordered off the special occasion vegan menu and if they put these items on their daily menu Inwould eat there all the time. The edamame and mint soup was especially delicious.
Excellent food. Great ambiance. Good service. A live band started at 9 which was good but a bit loud for me.
Service and presentation was terrific
Wonderful food and appetizers!
I am a huge fan of South on Main and have been for years. Had yet another great meal on Friday night. Always good to see Matt and Amy, the owners and of course the chef and inspiration. If you get the chance, by all means go.
Food was good, but not sure I would go back unless there was a specific reason. We picked that place for dinner because a friend of our was playing. The $10 per person cover PLUS dinner didn’t really seem to be consistent between all patrons. While I totally get charging a cover, if there are earlier evening reservations that get to stay around for the show because they bought dinner, it doesn’t really work. All or none is a better policy. Also, the hostess was working her tail off trying to seat guests with reservations and there were tables who would get up to go outside to smoke for a half hour and then complain that their table got bussed. Overall, the food was just good, the atmosphere was just nice, and the music was fantastic.
Since I can't hear the musicians very well over the crowds' constant background noise the value is pretty low.
My experience was great, but it usually is. I was meeting a friend for dinner. I was sat promptly and my server immediately came over. The food was delicious!
Painfully LOUD and unmusical. Inferior quality. Far below what I expecyed. I left shortly after it started. A bug waste of time. And money.
Table placement could have been better. Trying to eat where the band needs to set their equipment or setup is not ideal.
Overall a great experience!
The band performing that night, The Cons of Formant, was spectacular. Definitely need to bring them back!
An early dinner enjoyed a virtually empty dining room, at least for a while before dining hour and pre-concert crowds arrived. It also allowed for great seating and attention.
Pork-stuffed fried wonton began the meal with a tasty dipping sauce, equally shared with companion. It being Happy Hour, great beverage selection and pricing was also ours to enjoy.
The entrees included "Chicken and Dumplings", a misnomer, and the house sausage and rice plate. Actually, it should be called (as it is in the fine print, Chicken and Gnocchi with the emphasis on Chicken with a few gnocchi thrown in on the side, which is to say; not near enough of the tasty starch was provided. There is not way the chicken and gnocchi could be worked out evenly! It was accompanied with a tasty, smooth cream sauce to flesh out the ample and tender chicken breast.
The brat reminiscent, home produced sausage was flavorful and plentiful with two, 3-4 inch pieces. These were laid atop and bed of red rice, cooked with a bit of a crunch in a red sauce and a side dollop of a great sauce "paste" that was most flavorful and complimentary! Even for a big appetite, the sausage selection proved sufficient.
As is the case with increasing frequency, there was not inclusion of any kind of bread, rolls, etc. Nor, seemingly, were they prepared to offer such. On request, two pieces of buttered and grilled, Texas Toast were produced AND charged for. In the south, and maybe anywhere, my opinion; bread options should always be made available. Additionally, while the Chicken dish was served good and hot in a small casserole dish, the rice must have been placed on a cold plate as a fair portion was lukewarm at best. A shortcoming easily corrected with a plate warmer, quicker service once plated or both.
Pricing and service were as expected from SOM.
It is a convenient stop with a Highly Varied menu of interesting options which could easily be perceived as higher quality with attention to detail.
The table behind me was so loud that I could not hear the music much of the time. I wondered why they even came. I guess in that type of setting there's nothing that can be done about that. They definitely were not there to listen to the music. But they could have been more respectful of the people that were. Also there's lots of obstruction blocking the view from the table to the stage.
I absolutely love this place!! Great food!! Great drinks!!! Great service!!!!
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The waiter was very attentive and the music was amazing. We had a great time!
The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Our only complaint was that we got slapped with a $20 cover fee for a band that came on right before we left and that we had no idea was going to be there. Seems a bit unfair to charge people for a band that they didn’t come to see and didn’t really get to watch.
Our waiter seemed annoyed that we were a big party(10 people).
Always a great spot to listen to some great live music and create wonderful memories with friends. The staff have always been awesome and attentive
