We sat at the 8ish person sushi bar (we were a 3top) and had a view of all the sushi chefs. Our server was Zooey and she was outstanding - from main items to small service details she nailed everything. Great cocktails and solid Asian beer choices. Well worth a trip when in Raleigh.
Very fresh fish and quick service.
The chairs are too low for an average size woman.
I've walked past several times and never thought to go in, but I'm glad I have now tried Sono! A very comprehensive menu with some interesting and enticing options, as well as a long list of sushi etc. We shared several plates and the gyoza were my favorite, which is odd because I don't usually like them, but these are delicate dumpling cases with deliciously spiced filling, superb.
We had an excellent meal, of high quality ingredients and the bill was very reasonable. Our server was knowledgable, professional and friendly. We'll definitely be going back.
I had the sushi taco, which was delicious and the spicy ramen dish that was great! Watch out it is VERY spicy!! I would love to eat here again.
Sono was great. The sushi and nigiri were awesome and the gyoza was good too. Overall, a great sushi place for downtown Raleigh.
Food was great as was the service. We never felt rushed and were able to enjoy our visit.
We went to Sono before a concert at the Duke Energy Center; location is very convenient for this option, as the restaurant is only a three-block walk away. Service was excellent, server was friendly and knowledgeable. We got the sashimi and pork dumpling appetizers and ramen bowl entrees, and everything was tasty and attractively presented. I loved the Tom Yum cocktail, might go back just for that. Only downside was the lack of reasonably-priced sake options; my husband really enjoys sake with an Asian meal but we felt like all the options offered were too pricey. Despite that small drawback, we will likely go here again and recommend to others.
Good but not the best sushi downtown
We went before the ballet and had a very enjoyable meal. Our waiter was great and very helpful. We got 4 rolls of sushi and an appetizer and enjoyed all of the food.
The place was wonderful and so was the service! The food that we ate was also amazing! If you love sushi, this is the place!
Perfect meal. Went for the chef's sushi menu. Perfectly timed. Perfect flavor. Can't wait to try again.
Meh. Not worth the price.
I love Sono because the sushi is always so fresh tasting. This is the only place we come for sushi anytime we get the craving! Love Sono
We love this place, it is always consistent and the services is impeccable. Highly recommend.
Brandon our server was awesome! Answered any questions we had. The atmosphere of this restaurant is great & in my opinion it’s the best Sushi in Raleigh!
Best sushi in Raleigh/ Durham. Excellent Ramen. Great service.
The sushi chef at Sono prepared a very delicious and beautiful Nigiri tasting menu.
Always a good experience here. Firecracker shrimp are eggrolls, not what we expected but that's OK. Grilled octopus is a tiny octopus, so don't be caught off guard. It's delicious.
I really appreciated our server. We had our children with us for my wife's birthday. She was a gem. Very polite, excellent service!
Very knowledgeable server and sushi and ramen were fantastic. We had sushi and gyoza as appetizers and ramen as our main dish. I hope to go back soon!
Some of the freshest and tastiest Sushi here in Raleigh! Unfortunate this place does not do BOGO deals, however the quality is worth it. Try the Sushi Trio if you enjoy Sashimi and Nagiri. You wont be disappointed!!
This was our second time to Sono and both experiences were exceptional. We look forward to the next time. Our server's timing was perfect. Not obtrusive, but always there to pour the wine and keep the table fresh. The sushi was perfectly prepared and prices are quite reasonable.
Delicious food and pretty fast service! Always love coming here and getting the ramen. Sushi is delicious too
New Year’s Eve
The hostess bumped the table, spilling my beer all over me, and barely apologized. Also, I swear the rolls get smaller every time I dine here. I get you want to maintain your high margins, but $15 for a roll that keeps getting smaller and smaller is just ridiculous. You’re going to start driving away customers.
Joe was wonderful and cry attentive. Never an empty glass at our table and he was very knowledgeable about the menu.
Best sashimi in town. It's hip and noisy so if you want a more laid back ambience, go early. I haven't ever had bad sushi rolls or sashimi here. Lots of finely shredded crisp daikon, pickled ginger without the pink dye, wasabi packs a punch. Octopus appetizer also highly recommended.
Awesome sushi experience, best in Raleigh!
I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Sono. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The menu was well priced (for the customer). The quality of the food was well beyond expectations and I now have an all-time favorite spot in Raleigh. Visit Sono and I promise you that you will be back soon after. Thank you Sono!
This was a great experience. Service was great and food was even better.
Miso soup was amazing, I don't know why, but it was better than most.
The house made Gyoza was fantastic. The sushi was the best I've ever had. Better than Morimoto NYC. From the appearance of the fist, the presentation and smell and taste. I didn't even want to use Soy sauce.
My husband and I had a great time and meal - we save Sono for special occasions.. it’s a little more expensive than our average date night but the fish is such high quality it’s so worth it. My fave is the piano roll and tuna nigiri
Overall good experience but was a little disappointed in the Ramen, noodles were too chewy, the meat was dry, and the broth could have been a bit more flavorful.
Lighting was too bright, restaurant fairly empty for a Friday night
Strangely they have shrimp tempura as a sushi roll ingredient, but not as an app or meal. But they made it for us on request. The street sign says the spots outside the door are for valet parking but they don't have valet service. The manager assured us it would be OK, and she was right. The sashimi was "the best I ever had in this country" according to a foodie global traveler in our dining party who also noted the good value. The sashimi was buttery melt-in-your-mouth. Daikon and microgreens were also very fresh. No red-dyed pickled ginger here. Grilled octopus is a good indicator of how good the kitchen is, and it was really good. We'll be back, especially for BOGO rolls happy hour. I hope you give Sono a try!
Omakase- sushi taste and presentation was excellent, Chicken yakitorii - really good, Grilled Ribeye not so much, way over done. Gyoza- best I've had. Service and atmosphere - loved it, we'll be back!
The sushi was incredibly fresh. We arrived early for our reservation and was offered to sit at the bar or wait. We chose to sit at the bar and the service was impeccable. Highly recommend.
We ordered the miso soup, piano roll and white dragon roll. All really good. Our server was Charles. He was great. Very happy with our date night, kid-free dinner.
Always a great choice! Been going to sono for several years
Fantastic sashimi and sushi with the omakase being terrific overall. The chicken yakitori that was fried at the end is a must! Service was very good initially, but then slow when the restaurant got busy later in the service. Also incredibly loud and the backs on the booths need to have better support since you feel the person in the booth behind you. Will return, but would likely prefer sitting in the main part of the dining room.
